We stayed in L'Hotel Élan for a total of 6 nights in Dec 2012. We chose the hotel based on its modern boutique style and the fact that it had a regular free shuttle bus into the centre of the city (Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon). While not located in one of the most central areas of Kowloon, the hotel is only 2 mins' walk from the nearest MTR station (Ngau Tau Kok), from which you are only around 30 mins from Central on HK island (the HK metro is super efficient and trains are almost always ready and waiting for you).
We used the shuttle bus several times, which left the hotel every 45 mins throughout the day. From there, it was only around 15-20 mins to get to the southern tip of Kowloon, from where you can catch the 10 min Star Ferry across to HK island. The bus always left punctually and we found it an easy means of getting around.
The hotel itself was very modern and the concierges on the ground floor were very helpful and quick with our luggage. Reception is located on the 35th floor, with great views across the city from the small gym and pool area, which are also located here. As others have noted, the pool area seemed shut during our stay, however the pool is tiny considering how many rooms the hotel has, so we weren't missing out on much.
Our room was clean and well equipped, and generally met the standards we were expecting from such a new hotel. The room was on the bigger side, which is a plus for HK, and is maybe also a benefit of not staying in the very centre of town. The bed was massive and there was a decent rain shower in the bathroom. The room came equipped with an iPad, which was a bonus. There was not much of a view from our window, but this wasn't a huge problem for us as we were more interested in getting out to see the city. It's worth mentioning too that all of the drinks in the minibar in the room and the small drinks area by the gym are complimentary, which was a nice touch.
We did not take breakfast at the hotel as there are plenty of places in HK to get a decent snack, but the restaurant in the hotel did look appealing (serving a mixture of Italian fusion cuisine). The APM shopping mall is just 5 mins' walk from the front of the hotel, where there is a sizeable food court.
If you're looking for a hotel with lots of ambiance and a central location in HK then Élan is probably not for you. However, if, like us, you prefer clean, modern, business-style accommodation within a reasonable journey of the centre, then this really fits the bill. We did not regret our choice and would seriously consider staying here again if returning to HK.
