“Good, informal hostel in Hong Kong”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of 6 month trip and was a good option to save some money in otherwise quite expensive city for back-packing accommodation. Instantly like the staff who I later found out are brother/sister. It's family run and think it would be good for them to push this aspect as the accommodation is quite informal and they are really helpful and friendly.

The hostel and dorms are really small by comparison to anywhere else I have ever stayed but I think this is the norm in Hong Kong so don't let this put you off. Lockers very small so can only fit in the essentials of money/cards/passport (they did offer 2 lockers to me but I didn't want the hassle of 2 keys). Top bunks are very high which I didn't particularly like so if this bothers you then request lower bunk. 8-bed dorm included one extra on the floor (the receptionist at night times)! Internet is great and fast. Not much privacy in terms of toilets/shower rooms - only 2 available, they have sliding doors and are located right beside the reception/computers/sofas.

Overall, it's good for the money. Good location. Safe. Very clean. Bright furnishings are a nice change to the usual hostel blandness. Staff are sooooo nice and helpful - definitely take their restaurant recommendations.

It's pretty informal in terms of everyone living on top of each other but I thought it was just fine as only really spent my time here for sleep - Hong Kong has so much going on that you can be out of here first thing in the morning and just come back for bedtime.

I have lived in several hostels in the US and Asia, but Check Inn is definitely the best among them. It is in a great location, not far from the shopping district and the MTR station. It is well-equipped: the wifi is fast, the bed is comfortable, and the aircon is powerful. The staff was super friendly and professional. Price is relatively high among inns in Hong Kong, but definitely worth it!

I don’t have any complaints about Check Inn. It was rather tiny but apparently that’s the norm in Hong Kong. Everything was relatively clean. I stayed in the six-bed dorm and there was a (very small) bathroom inside the room which was nice. They provide small lockers where you can keep your valuables and an electronic key card to access the building, hostel, and your room. Towel rental costs HK$20 but it’s a nice big towel! There are computers and sofas in the common area (no kitchen). Also the free wifi was fast! The location is great, near a subway station but it’s best to take the tram if you’re just going around Hong Kong Island (as it’s so cheap at HK$2.30 a ride!). The staff was very helpful. They waited up for me until I arrived at 2am and then they let me keep my locker and bags in the dorm room until I left at 6pm on my check out day.
