Owner description: Since 1888, this tram has been Hong Kong Island's most reliable form of public transport between Central district and The Peak

We figured we should do something touristy while in hong kong besides eat dim sum and peking duck so we decided to ride the tram and check out the view. When we found the tram there was a huge line which was annoying. Once you buy your ticket you get herded like cattle into the boarding area and grouped together between the ropes to wait for your train. That about made us turn around but we stuck it out.

Finally on the train there were no seats so we stood. Not usually a big deal but it's a steep ride so you have to hang on for dear life if you are standing.

The ride and tram itself is kind of interesting. When we got to the top there was no view because of the haze which of course is no one's fault. More disappointing, however, was what we found at the top of the peak. It's basically one big mall. It's weird. Since there was no view we had a very expensive beer and went back down. I would not recommend it. It's a long process with little reward.

If you visit Hong Kong you really have to ride the Peak Tram. Avoid the ticket queue by buying an Octopus Card. You can use it on the trams, ferries and MTR. When you leave you can cash in any unused balance and recover your HK$50 deposit at Hong Kong station or at the airport. The Peak Tram is surprisingly steep. It's cable pulled and you face uphill both ways as the cars are not stepped. At the top is a carbuncle of a building housing the terminus and the ever-present shopping centre. Don't bother paying the extra to visit the sky platform, just go for a walk around the Peak. Takes about an hour and offers the best views of Hong Kong, or at least as good as the smog of thick grey pollution allows. If you're lucky you'll get a rare clear sunny day.

The only reason I give it an avg rating is because it is almost impossible to get tickets before hand and avoid the at least 1 hour long queue. I got tired of looking in the internet for the "approved travel agents" that supposedly offer the tickets but to no avail.
If you are planning to also go to Madame Tussaud's on top you can jump the queue and buy the tickets at the front of the queue.
Once you get on the Tram is a fantastic experience and like somebody else pointed in another review try to sit on the right hand side for the best view.
A must do at least once on the way up. Once on top you can come down walking, taxi, mini bus or bus 15.

A must do to check off your bucket list in Hong Kong. My advise is to take the double decker bus to the peak center and afterwards return to Central by coming down on the peak tram. Go there on clear day or night for best photos.

The tram up and down from the peak is over-rated, expensive and you need to wait in long queues.... I think the bus (No. 15c) is far more picturesque, it costs a fraction of the price and there are no queues... The only plus about the tram is that the ride is very fast so you reach the peak very quickly.... the bus ride in comparison takes much longer.... However, given that you will wait over half an hour in the queue, I would definately opt for the bus which runs frequently.
