This is great value if you like museums..and even if you don't it gives you great insight into the history of Hong Kong. Also great place ona very hot, wet summer day.

“Slow start but got really good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

We followed the recommended route through the museum which takes you from the geologic formation of Hong Kong to the prehistoric settlers, this part of the museum was quite hard to take in and relate back to modern Hong Kong.

We weregoing toleave butthought wemight as well have aquick lookthrough theto floor. The tour got much more interesting there as it covered more recent times, from Victorian Hong Kong to wsr times to the hand over to China. We didn't want to leave but we're just too tired to continue. Until we hit the museum shop which we spent a long time browsing through everything.

The only let down was the cafe which was due be refurbished in the next few days and they practically had nothing left to eat.

“Informative and excellent exhibits”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

I have visited this museum twice. The permanent exhibition are interesting and very engaging. It starts from the prehistoric period to reunification in 1997. A good place to start if you're interested in learning how this tiny fishing village came to be today's global financial hub

“Size isn't everything - compact and excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

Good size - very enjoyable. Excellent audio-visuals. So interesting to see vintage Hong Kong for real! Some of the displays were quite big compared to the overall size of the museum! Good value tip = visit on a Wednesday - free admission - though admission is not costly to be honest. BTW ... the Science Museum is just next door too!

“Small, but worth a visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

I was told tourists usually do not visit museums when Honk Kong, but shopping insanely is not my kind of trip, so I found it interesting and had a good time. It is a small museum, but worth a visit. Had nice tour guide who showed me all around.
