We visited as part of a half day tour of Hong Kong Island.
The weather was very foggy/smoggy, so visibility was poor - on a clear day it would be stunning.
We didn't have a lot of time to explore, looked at the view and had lunch, and it was time to leave.
In retrospect, it was the last stop of the tour and we should have asked to leave the tour then, as I gather there are lots of shops, some walking trails and a Madame Tussaud to see here.
We travelled up by bus, and took the tram down - the queue for the team to go down wasn't overly long, but the queue at the bottom to come up was massive - our guide said it's often more than a two hour wait! Consequently, our plans to re-visit were shelved.
The tram itself was picturesque, the scenery pretty, and if you put aside the obsession to take photos, very enjoyable.
My recommendation would be to go very early to avoid the long queue, pick a day when the visibility is good, and plan to spend an hour or more at the top.
I've also heard that the view from the roof of the Galleria shopping Centre is as good as the viewing platform you have to pay for, but we didn't go up.
If you do go as part of a tour, be aware that it's sometimes the first stop, rather than the last, so don't book with the intention of leaving the tour at the top, unless you specifically ask about that.

The views are outstanding , but take your time and don't be tempted to get suckered by the photographers up there trying to rip you off, take your own and ask a fellow visitor to take your own ''selfie'' type shot !Quite a few escalators have been added over time,a bit like going through duty free in order to tempt you ! Well worth it and the Peak Tram is not to be missed !

We took a bus to the Victoria Peak viewing area. Unfortunately, it was rather foggy so the view was not the best.

...once you get past the smog and slight vertigo, from being so high up, the skyline views from this vantage point is one of the best I've ever seen.

This is a great place to get a view of Hong Kong. On a clear day, best view on the Island. The trip is worth it and walking down the Peak is quite fun as well, not easy in the heat, but fun.
