“Much needed green space in the Central district of Hong Kong”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

When visiting Hong Kong, it doesn't take long for the overwhelming crowds, traffic, noise and heat to have one searching for some a patch of green space just to relax and get away form the chaos of the city. This is where the very good Hong Kong Park serves both visitors and locals so very well. Near The Peak Terminus, you can find Hong Kong Park, which has many small (free) attractions and is well worth spending an hour or two at some point during your visit to the city.

In addition to typical city park fountains and artificial lakes w/ fish and turtles, there is a very good aviary with several hundred tropical region birds flying around freely, many will perch on the walking deck just in front of you. The deck itself is well above ground level, creating a very nice experience, whether you like birds or not.

There is also a conservatory building dedicated to plants, with two particularly interesting rooms. First, a dry room with cactus plants and then a humid room, with tropical flora.

There is a tai chi garden area, a few statue and monuments and a very nice Tea Ware museum, found within the historic Flagstaff House, which is the longest standing western building in Hong Kong, built in the 1840s.

These attractions are quite close together, thus you can visit them all in just an hour or so. Or you might want to just grab a park bench by one of the small ponds and enjoy being away from the maddening crowds and traffic to be found in the nearby streets of HK Island.

Overall, we are big fans of Hong Kong Park, considering it our favorite in all of Hong Kong and we recommend spending a bit of time here when visiting the city if you need to get away from the crowds.

Also, consider visiting the nearby Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, not far from Hong Kong Park, offering a more wooded area, instead of city park, along with some animals on display. Combined these two attractions are a good way to spend time if you are visiting as families with young ones.

“Haven of green in the city”
Reviewed June 16, 2012

I headed here after The Peak Tram - it's a great park, with a pond, observing tower and aviary (the latter is well worth a visit - you walk on suspended wooden walkways through a very large enclosed area that the birds can fly around in). There are turtles and fish in the ponds and a waterfall that you can walk behind, as well as an Olympic auditorium - worth a visit to relax and get away from the city. I exited via the nearby shopping mall that leads down to Admiralty MTR.

“Good stroll in a lazy afternoon”
Reviewed June 14, 2012 via mobile

We walked through this park from the Peak Tram station and it was a nice stroll in a very clean park. Relaxing to watch swimming turtles in the park's pond. There are benches in shady areas where it is nice to just read a book or listen to your i-pod.
