“Looking for a Great Value Hotel in HK?”
Reviewed May 24, 2007

Search no more. Add that extra cash saved to your shopping allowance rather than stay at another hotel having the same category around the Jordan area. I have tried 2 newer hotels in the same area and nothing beats my stay here.

Location is probably their strongest plus. The MTR station is just around the corner while the bus and taxi stops are just a few steps away from the entrance. This means that if you're coming back to the hotel from a shopping spree carrying tons of bags, you're not going to walk far straining your arms and legs, especially when you're taking the MTR. Temple street is just a few minutes walk which is a good place for last minute shopping. If you're an early riser, chances are most of the shops are still closed. You can head on to the nearby Kowloon Park for some nature tripping and people watching.

Don't expect a big room, it's quite small even for us Asians but its clean. The bathroom is sparkling. I think it's newly refurbished as seen in my photos.

Now if breakfast is included in your package, be prepared to eat hotdog, ham and toast every morning. The only thing they change is the siding that goes with it - noodles, fried rice and scrambled egg. You have an option though to try their breakfast buffet for an additional HKD60.

My overall experience with this hotel is quite pleasant. Just don't expect any frills or even exceptional service. I guess my search for a great value hotel has ended for now, so I won't be looking for a new hotel on my next visit to HK.

I stayed here in late November 06, and chose the Shamrock for it's location on Nathan Road in Kowloon. With the MTR and Nathan Road buses steps away I didn't take a single cab during my stay. There are plenty of nearby places to eat and the Night Market is also a short walk. My single room was basic & small but I didn't spend much time there other than to sleep. Most importantly it was very clean.

I would stay there again.

We had a three night stay at the hotel and I will stick to my review title.. small... in both good and not so good ways. It was a pleasure trip that coincided with Hong Kong's 10th anniversary. So almost every place you go was packed, hotels, parks, everywhere.

We were a party of four (two couples) and had no prior arrangements aside from getting two rooms. There was a lot of people at the lobby but we got through the queue in a small amount of time. 10mins, tops. We asked to have the two rooms next to each other. Being in the busy season, we did not get that. Same floor though.

The rooms were indeed small, however, it was designed in way that there would still be enough space for you to walk around. It did not look cluttered. So, small bath, small closet, small frig, small tv. Just enough for a three night stay if you're going to spend most of the day outside anyway.

The staff was excellent. They were very helpful in so many ways. The housekeeper even returned money that was found in our room after we checked out even though we left the room in total disarray. It was just a couple of US$ but we certainly appreciated the gesture. (and yes she got praise/reward for that)

The location was excellent! It took a small time for us to get everywhere. The bus stop was literally outside the lobby. Jordan station was around the corner. Night shopping, 7/11, food stalls were just around us.
