“A cheap gem.”
Reviewed March 13, 2012 via mobile

This is a great hotel. It is very clean and best of all the price is cheap. You get free internet in your room if you have a cable to plug in and you can get wifi in the lobby. There is a small gym which will suffice for those who like to workout. There is a 24/7 gas station out front where you can buy water and alcohol at anytime. Around the corner is a nice grocery store too. It's a fairly good location to downtown shopping. If you don't mind walking downhill you can be at bars, restaurants and fancy shopping in 15 mins. Taxis are always pulling out front and it's simple to grab one. Every morning a newspaper is hanging on your door and the the front desk is staffed 24/7 to help with anything you need. The rooms are not huge but clean and have good views.

This YWCA-run hotel was a great find. We had an excellent 10th-floor view of the zoo and the downtown skyscrapers. The room was spacious and very clean. Getting to the MTR was an easy 15-minute downhill walk to Pacific Place Mall mostly on stairs and walking paths.

It's more of a business hotel, so don't expect to be coddled. And it's not in the tourist area, so there are only a couple restaurants nearby (Pure Veggie House is excellent), and you have to walk a bit to find an ATM. But you can cut through the (free) zoo to reach SoHo and the escalator. And downtown is only a $5 (U.S.) taxi ride away.

I never thought I could have this view in Hong Kong with so little money! Our deluxe room was tiny, but it was clean and modern (as well as the bathroom) and it has a terrific view to the Central! The breakfast buffet was really nice, too (wi-fi was also free at least in the breakfast room). The hotel probably can't offer all the services that five star hotels can, but for independent travellers without unlimited cash this hotel is great!

The location of the hotel is quite central, but a bit uphill, so you probably want to go there by taxi if you have any luggage (fortunately taxis are really cheap in HK). The Peak Tram also has a stop at the MacDonnel Road, but you have to tell the driver to stop there. Most likely the tram isn't a good option with luggage, though. There is a grocery store next door (just walk down to the city and you find it), but with restaurants the immediate vicinity is void.

The hotel definitely isn't a five star hotel, but considering the price of the view (and the great breakfast) I have to give full points to this hotel!

Room Tip: Take the room with the view to the Central.

The hotel itself is very good. Our room was clean and had all the basic amenities. The bed was rather hard, though. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They upgraded us to deluxe room. If you need provisions, there is a small shop nearby, further down the slope.

But here comes the catch: unless you are willing to pay for cab fares, do not book this hotel. It is located along a slope in the Central area. No direct bus to go up there, although there is 1 to go down. But you need to wait for some time. If you used the MTR, you need to walk a long, long way up. We did that the first day and it was pouring and we ended up exhausted by the time we reached our room. It was rather miserable.

I'm a regular visitor to Hong Kong but this was my first stay at the Garden View. I had been reluctant to choose it before because of its location, but i was pleasantly surprised at how accessible it is from Central. The rooms are slightly larger than you would find in a similar hotel of this class, which makes it feel that bit more comfortable. I had a great view of the Central and Sheung Wan area and the large window and big open space in front of the hotel gives the rooms a lot of natural light. Everything in the room was in good condition. There's a minibar in the room but it's only stocked with basic soft drinks, with no alcohol or snacks etc. There is free tea and coffee in the room.

If you're heading to Central District, when you leave the hotel you can cross the footbridge and walk through the Zoological and Botanical Gardens, past Government House and right into the middle of Central. Its an easy 10 minute walk, downhill all the way. To get back to the hotel take the number 12A Citybus from next to the Lippo Centre at Admiralty and get off at the second stop, which is just after the bus turns left into MacDonnell Road at the top of Garden Road.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Zoological and Botanical Gardens

A wonderfull hotel in Hong Kong. Fine atmosphere, swimmingpool, airconditioning (you'll need that!) and the city at a walking distance. The hotel is situated next to the peek-tram, a big tropical park and 'Soho', with all his cafe's and restaurants. All rooms have big windows for a nice view over the city. Try to get one on the upperfloors. There's also a good supermarket next to hotel.

The Garden View, YWCA, on Mc Donnell Road is a very convenient place to stay whilst exploring HK, they give a discount if you stay longer than 7 consecutive days. transport links from hotel are good, either the mini bus or a taxi...or even better walk across to the botanical garden and meander on foot past the old Governor's Residence and St John's to central.
To Lang Kwai Fong, Stanley Street or the lanes of Queens Road Central. You can even walk to the star ferry it is not as far as it looks and all down hill........

The Hotel position is great and excellent value for money, staff pleasant and there is a Parc and Shop supermarket in Coda Plaza next door where you can buy fruit juices and croisants for a continental style breakfast. As someone who lived and worked in HK I cannot think of a more convenient place to stay whilst exploring all HK and the islands around HK have to offer. Whilst I lived in Hk my visiting relatives stayed in this hotel and now when we go back to visit Hk we stay.....
Be daring and go for a hike on Lantau walk from Discovery Bay to Silvermine bay and you will be amazed at the greenery and vistas!! Or buy a little guide highlighting interesting walks around HK, always carry a bottle of water wear proper hiking boots and your mobile phone....and walk with friends or ( not alone) in pairs as it is possible to get lost and or fall so do be safe when venturing out into the country side of which there is plenty.

Room Tip: If your budget is not too tight go for a junior suite and if you can stay for 7 nights and get the d...
