“Good hotel for the price but not exceptional”
Reviewed October 16, 2012 via mobile

We stayed in Stanford for couple of days whilst visiting Hongkong. Location is good but not great. Its between two MTR stations so about 10min walk away to either, we usually used Mong Kok. Close to ladies market street and lots of shops with shoes and camera accessories. We havent tried any restaurants near the hotel but they looked good from the outside, full of locals, not many foreigners so we werent brave enough to go and try. Internet is for free and quite good coverage in the rooms (unlike some other hotels I stayed in in the past) but that may vary based on the room location I suppose. One thing we didnt like was that when we checked out and asked them to keep our luggage they just put it outside the hotel behind the window and locked together with a padlock and a wire. Perhaps its normal there in the hotel but I was a bit concerned if they would spot someone nicking one of the bags or searching through them. At the end all was fine but we just were surprised they did not have some secure store room inside the lobby for example.

Transport tip, best to take a taxi to/from the airport rather than hotel shuttle. We paid hkd 250 on our way in and hkd 240 on the way out and that was base fare plus luggage fee. Shuttle is 130 per person and only goes at fixed times.

All in all I would recommend the hotel considering prices in HK £120 per night wasnt that expensive.

We were in Hong Kong for 5 nights and celebrated the countdown to the new year 2012. Despite the hustle and bustle of a crowded city during a chaotic time, the stay at the hotel was nothing more than fantastic.

Service: From the airport, we took a taxi to the hotel. We were greeted with a smile by the doorman and who did not hesitate to help us with the luggage, even though the taxi driver got to it first.
Checked in with ease. While the friendly desk staff was explaining the hotel to us, our luggage was brought to the room. On the morning we checked out, we told the staff our flight was not until 3pm and wanted explore to Mongkok until noon. The staff were very helpful and kept our luggage with them until we arrived back with a taxi ready for us to take to the airport. (Very surprising for a <5 star hotel, which im sure some 5-star hotels dont even do).
We actually didn't have any need to talk to anyone else in the hotel other than check-in and check-out. We were very happy with that.

Room: Despite the slightly timid hallways, and small room (no surprise in hk) the room was great. Everything was clean, with amenities incl. (heating, tv, kettle, mini fridge and safe). Towels, soap, sham/cond and sheets were replaced very quickly (we returned with shopping bags to shop even more) with the room already cleaned by 2pm. And a small but clean bathroom. The bed was a little on the hard side, but didn't really notice after long days of sight-seeing and shopping.

Location: Mongkok is easily the busiest area of hk, which to my surprise the area where the hotel is, was very quiet in terms of hk, yet close to amazing shopping outlets, 7-11, cafes and restaurants.
Walking distance from Nathan Rd, Ladies St for the bargain shopper, Flower St, Kowloon Park and many MTR stations. Id consider using the MTR to get around hk, very easy to use and much, much cheaper than a taxi. Buy an Octopus card and top up as you go. There are large maps throughout every station aiding in you finding the best exit door to take. The trains have electronic maps, written and spoken English is used. You can go anywhere in hk and will not get lost. Trust me.

We had the breakfast buffet once during our stay, and thoroughly enjoyed it, with an ray of selection.

We were very happy with the stay at the Stanford, the price is a little on the high side, although many of the hotels in hk are.

Without paying a fortune, this place excelled on cleanliness, service and location.

We stayed for 4 nights in this hotel in September 2012. We really enjoyed the proximity of this hotel to many eateries, the shopping at the Ladies market and the easy transport options.
We arrived at the China Ferry terminal and made our way to the hotel by bus (note - an easier way would be to catch a cab).
Our check in to the hotel was smooth and easy. The staff at reception spoke good English. As expected in HK, our room was compact. This was not a problem for us as there was so much to see and do in our neighborhood and in HK itself that we were only in the room to sleep.
The room had a safe, free W-Fi, tea/coffee making facilities, toiletries and two free bottles of water/day.
The hotel is nicely furnished in a modern style. It is located about five blocks down one end of Soy Street which is off Nathan Road. These blocks are not large blocks but they are filled with many eateries and shops of all kinds. We counted about 12 places selling cooked food in the block between the hotel and the nearest intersection. Luckily, by the time you reach the hotel, the crowds and the noise are much reduced.
The location of this hotel is fantastic. It is in Mongkok which is an area of very high population density, You are five minutes walk away from the Ladies market and also Sneaker Street. In the evening, the nearby streets become pedestrian malls full of people strolling, eating and shopping. There are three MTR stations within 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel (depending on your walking pace and the number of people in the streets) ie Mongkok, Yau Ma Tei and Mongkok East (which will take you to the border to go to Shenzhen).
You would never go hungry when staying here. There are so many places in the area to choose from for a meal..from fast food places to Japanese food to local noodle shops to proper restaurants to small food stalls selling tempting snacks.
On our first night, we found the constant, even hum of the air-conditioning to be slightly irritating. However, we were so tired on the other nights, we did not notice this again. If you need to sleep in a whisper quiet room, this might not be the place for you.
We were very happy with our choice of this hotel. For the reasonable price we paid, we stayed in a modern clean hotel in Mongkok that was close to food, shopping and transport.
We would definitely stay here again.

I once stayed here for 3 nights, and here are my reviews
(+): great location, can walk to Lady Market, and many street foods around the corner, will give tourists a good chance to blend with the locals and gain exciting experience.
(-): boring breakfast, actually only the porridge can be considered as breakfast because the rest contains lots of lard. The room is very small.

stayed here for a couple of nights with my wife. we've lived in hong kong before and we're quite familiar with the area.

the location of the hotel is without doubt the best in mongkok for the following reasons:
it is in the midst of the action, with Ladies Street, Trainers (Sports Shoes) Street and all you would want to see and experience in Mongkok right on your doorstep.

the hotel has also managed to find a spot in one of Hong Kong's liveliest neighbourhoods where you can get a very good night's rest without being kept awake by the noise.

rooms are clean and the size is not bad for Hong Kong (ie normally small).

service - to be honest, only spoke to the staff upon check-in, check-out and when i was getting the username/password for the free internet (always a bonus!). So, service was minimal - but thats a good sign when you don't want any hassle

MTR (subway) is less than 10mins walk.

Loads of local restaurants surrounding the hotel. Very Hong Kong and very delicious

Price is ok by Hong Kong standards. It's expensive, but you're not going to get much better for this price range.

Will definitely stay again if I have to pay myself and cannot put on company expenses ;)

If you're looking for a relatively short stay in HK, then this is one of the best hotels. The rate is exceedingly good for this type of hotel, it's very clean, good enough service & location is smack bang in the middle of mongkok shopping district. Basically, everything is within minutes away walking distance, from foods, convenient stores, shopping arcades you name it. And it does help a lot with most of the staff able to speak really good English. The only limitations maybe the rooms are a bit to cramped in size, but then again this is HK, the most densely populated place on Earth.

The standard twin room is good enough if you just expect to have a comfort sleep. The room is clean and tidy. There's a free wifi. The hotel is located about 5 minutes walking distance from mong kok mtr station. There's one dim sum restaurant next to the hotel called New Star restaurant which is good taste and cheap! There's a laundry shop located opposite of the hotel.
