“Gold Coast...A perfect stay!”
Reviewed November 9, 2011

Stayed at the Gold Coast Hotel for two days with my wife. The entire experience at the hotel was nothing less than excellent!!. We had opted for the Grandluxe Seaview Balcony room. The very first experience on reaching the hotel was brilliant where the guy at the reception gave us an early check-in as requested (at 9 a.m.). The room in itself was awesome. The first thing one notices is the size of the room. The room was very spacious and the balcony overlooking the sea was awesome. The concierge service was fantastic and just near the hotel is the plaza where there are multiple eating joints and also a 7/11 store. The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but at the same time easily accessible to the main city as there are hourly shuttles to and from the hotel.

One thing to note is that in the room, there are only Evion water bottles which will cost you around 75HKD per bottle, so it is better to buy water bottles from the stores at the plaza.

All in all a memorable and pleasant stay and would definitely come back and stay here.

Room Tip: Go for a Grandluxe Seaview balcony room and try to book a bit in advance to get good deals

We stayed at the hotel for eight nights and were very pleased with the quality of the room and facilities. The view from our room was fantastic. The staff were courteous and friendly. It provided a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of central Hong Kong, but there was easy access into the centre using the hotel's shuttle buses. We were pleased with the efficient shuttle bus service to either Kowloon or the MTR stations (to then catch the MTR to wherever you wished to travel). The cost was either 20 or 30 HKG dollar each, depending on which shuttle bus you used. Hotel facilities were good - concierge was very helpful. Swimming pools were pleasant and in one of the pools there were water slides too. We had a room only rate so didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but there is a wide selection of restaurants and eateries just a five minute walk away where we had breakfast each morning. The beach is also very close by and there is an Italian restaurant overlooking the beach which had very friendly staff and seemed to be good value for money. The drinks were cheaper than the prices charged in the hotel bar and it was only a five minute walk to the restaurant (turn left out of the hotel and head towards the beach - you can't miss it!) You must however bear in mind that all prices quoted in food and beverage menus in Hong Kong will usually be subject to a 10% service charge. It is very unusual to find somewhere that does not add that charge. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the harbour if possible - the view is lovely.

Hotel is definitely off the beaten path. Airport shuttle bus is available for 110.00 HKD each direction. Hotel shuttles will take you into the city or Tsuen Wan MTR station. Otherwise, use taxis to get anywhere you need to go. Room was reasonably priced for this quality of hotel & the room was very nice & comfortable. Huge roomy bathroom. However, amenities such as laundry etc. are ridiculously expensive. Free high speed internet throughout the hotel. Nice beach nearby & mini strip mall.

We arrived at this Hotel after staying for 2 weeks in mainland China; it used to be that the service was better in Hong Kong after returning from mainland China. This was not the case.
Checking in was unpleasant. Service was average.

Room Tip: All rooms were good. The environment is great. Harbor view; swimming pool was closed while we stayed...

The hotel:
The hotel is large with beautiful architecture and rooms. We had a standard room which was clean with a view over the harbour. The hotel is about 30-35 minutes away from central Hong Kong but there is a shuttle bus for 30 HKD to drop you off at Tsim Sha Shui. Beware of a 4000 HKD deposit upon arrival which must be paid ( Must of missed that in the terms and conditions fine print???)

Our room:
We had a great standard room on level 9. Great sized room with a king size bed and large bathroom. Our bed was very hard but still managed to get decent sleep through the night. If you're taller then 6'1 then your feet will hang off the end of the bed.

Facilities:
There are a few dining options in the hotel and also the Gold Coast Piazza which is an area filled with little stalls and eatery's, it's right around the corner from the hotel. Cafe Lagoon's breakfast was amazing! Lots of variety and great price, only 148 HKD. There is a day spa which was reasonable but we decided to give it a miss.

Summary:
We had a wonderful stay. The area, staff and the hotel was amazing. I highly recommend this hotel. The hotel was very reasonably priced for such an amazing property. We'll stay here again for sure.

This hotel is very out of the way of everything that most westerners go to Hong Kong for.The whole Gold Coast area seems to have been developed by the one person with its fake venetian pink on the facade of the hotel and restaurants further down.It all seems rather false and fake European although plenty of people from China are staying and visiting the area. We met some lovely people that had travelled 17 hours by coach from the mainland to visit for three days. Our children played on the water slides and I would say that was the highlight of the hotel. The staff are professional but not the warmest people on the planet. Although there is an excellent MTR system, you still need to catch a taxi or bus to it.This was our first time in HK and it was a long trek for ourselves and our 5 year year old to go to The Peak. I feel I made a mistake in booking this hotel. The bed was hard as a rock so don't go there if you have a bad back. Stay in the City and go here for a day trip if you must.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe harbour view-the harbour is full of ugly boats hauling petrol-a bit like having a vi...

stayed for 3 nights with wife and 1 year old.

good points, lolcation altough 30 minutes from hong kong center is ideal. lovely views over the harbour. nice swimming pool. decent sized rooms, nice lobby area and 10 minutes walk to the gold coast piazza which is a selection of shops including a supermarket and a restaurants overlooking the sea. a taxi to the hotel will cost around 25 pounds for a 30 minute journey. if there are 2 of you this works out to be a good deal compared to the nearer an hour it will take on the shuttle bus. buffet breakfast very nice, mixture of western and eastern breakfast couldnt fault it.

bad points. the restaurant on site for evening meals is overpriced. 15 pounds for a very plain pizza!!! you are much better to go to the piazza. the staff are efficient but are not as friendly as in other hotels I have visited in asia.

overall a good experience but not one which would guarantee me staying in this hotel when I return to hong kong.
