I've walked Dragon's Back many time, living in Hong Kong but I've also taken many a visiting friend on this reasonably easy hike. There are a few steep section s but nothing that a reasonable fit person can't tackle. Start at the Correctional Centre on Shek O road. After a while walking on the flat you'll come out into the first of many amazing views.

Once we walked in the late afternoon and had the phenomenal sight of the sun setting on one side of the Dragon's Back and the moon rising on the other. Probably good to have a torch with you for the descent if you leave it too late! The wind on the crest can be fierce at times but oh those views!!! Both sides of the back you can see the beauty of Hong Kong, something that few tourists ever get to see. It's a wonderful place to be when you're up in the hills but most visitors miss it unless they know a resident who likes walking.

You can end up either on the Shek O road or on Tai Long Wan Beach. If you choose to descend to Shek O Road you can catch a bus down into Shek O village and have a well earned beer and excellent seafood at the restaurant by the roundabout. Check out Shek O beach too.

Buses and taxis back can be difficult at peak periods and the weekend so try to time your visit "off peak"

The coastline and islands around Hong Kong are surprisingly beautiful, and this is a relatively easy walk which shows this beauty. Take water, a hat, your Octopus card, and wear decent shoes. We took the MTR to Shau Kei Wan. We took exit A3 from the station and walked across to the nearby bus terminal, and then took the number 9 bus toward Skek O. We had to ask when to get off along Shek O Road to find the start of the trail (it is the first stop on Shek O Road). The trail is well sign posted, and fairly easy walking with a bit of steeper sections. The views along the walk are wonderful! We did the walk on a hot and humid summer day, and sweated a lot. At the end of the trail we caught a number 9 bus into Shek O for a dip in the sea, some lovely cold beer and Thai food. A great afternoon! Only downside was seeing the water bottles, orange peels and tissues/toilet paper left along the trail by others. Take your litter with you!

If you're looking for the natural side of Hong Kong or you just have the need to stretch your legs - please make sure you give the Dragon's Back a good walking over.

It's an easy walk that takes in some good sights by HK standards. If you're staying in HK for 4 or 5 days this is the perfect rest away from the hive of activity down on the streets.

Worth a look, but only if you have the time and not in the middle of a hot summers day.

Beautiful walk. Great Thai restaurant in Shek O. Nice deck chairs on Big Wave Bay and good coffee at the café.

Great views, but try to avoid the 5/6pm rush out of the beach. It can take a while to catch bus or taxi.
