“convenient hotel”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

we chose this hotel because it was one of the airport shuttle stops.
it is 10 min walk from Wan Chai MTR. 5 min away from tram stop.
there;s a 7-11 convenience store opposite the hotel.
many eateries and restaurants within the vicinity.
standard Rooms are reasonably for Asians.. where Europeans will find it small. however it is not as small as Japanese hotels.
Amenities are good. Pool and gym at the roof top is reasonable for a good tan and relaxation.
But if you want shopping, this not the hotel to be in. I chose this because of great deals from booking.com.
overall this is good class hotel, service is good and convenient.

An average business hotel in the midst of one of the most lively boroughs in Hong Kong (some would certainly call it a "hunting ground"). Be that as it may, even if the rooms are a bit small and the aisles gloomy, the overall feeling is that you get a reasonable value for money. Do not miss having a nice beer in some of the Irish pubs around the hotel.

Rooms here are well decorated and comfortable and, surprisingly, a little bigger than you normally find in Hong Kong hotels. I found hotel staff friendly, easy to deal with and competent. One thing you need to watch, though, is at check out when they give you the option of paying either in HK dollars or US dollars. Always choose HK dollars as the rate they use for US dollars is a massive scam.

There are three Empire Hotels in Hong Kong under the same ownership. This one in Wanchai is convenient to the MTR and the are quite a few convenience stores and decent restaurants nearby, but you are also in the center of the red light district. There are dozens of seedy little bars around the hotel that by the looks of things do a lively trade especially, for some reason, on Sunday afternoons.

The biggest drawback at this hotel and the main reason why I would not recommend it is due to their increasing Mainland clientele. People tend to ignore no smoking signs and smoke in the hallways and even elevators. People in adjacent rooms tend to be noisy and put all their used styrofoam food containers out into the hallways at night.

If you are with your family, make sure each person gets a key card. Elevators are not functional unless you have your key card with you.

I spent 10 days working in HK and stayed at this hotel.
The overall condition of the Hotel is good, the rooms are clean if not a little small, but it's pretty good value.
Location is very central and if you don't mind a walk in the HK heat you can access most of the ferry terminals to explore the harbour and all it has to offer.
The selection of restaurants in close proximity is great and it would take months to explore the variety available. Not a bad thing as the in-house restaurant is below standard.
Wifi is adequate but free.
I've stayed in a few hotels in HK and of the above average Hotels this one is as the upper (above average) level.
If you are in town for a few days it will do the job, as long as you use it as a base and eat out.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing Kimberly Rd.

If you are planning for a conference at HKCEC this is one of the excellent hotels around. There is a Indian restaurant next door. Also staff very friendly and rooms are clean. Buffet lunch and dinner also available.

Check-in:
was late, slow with not so friendly front desk reception. We had to wait in a que to check in, if there is a large group expect to wait longer.
Upon check in there is a deposit to be paid, room rates wasnt too bad,

Location:
Hennesy road is near to wan chai MTR station, bus stop is just right opposite. The only drawback was the strip of the street is full of bars & pubs. In the weekends it is crowded with people wanting to drink, so it can be a bit noisy too.

Rooms:
Rooms was good, not too bad, even though it was small but we felt comfortable and secured. I even lost my key card, but the reception is willing to replace it immediately without any problems.

So far, from my stay i do feel this is one of the affordable hotels in hong kong, it is not too expensive & not too cheap either. will stay here again!

About 3 blocks from Wan Chai MTR station so reasonable but not great. Hennessy Road has a few convenience stores and the like but definitely not in any of the shopping areas. On the other hand, if you are after seedy go go bars or what appeared to be hardware alley (bathroom, lighting and hardware supplies etc) then you're in good shape. I had to circle the block a couple of times to find the entrance as the plaque was inadequately small and the lobby interior calmly dark. Lobby itself was spacious and modern, as were the lifts, corridors and my room. It created a nice ambience in some areas but it looked like it was intended to hide the shoddy workmanship/finish of the entire hotel including said lifts, corridors and room. Bathroom grout, tiles etc were badly finished. Room was pretty small, but standard HK small so no complaints there. A/c was hard to control. Definitely a 3 star and no more, and a middle of the road one at that.
