We stayed at the Empire Hotel over the recent rugby Seven's weekend. We knew that it was in a bar/club area and was likely to be noisy. Our room was facing Lockhart Rd and I had to sleep every night with earplugs because of the street noise. We were on the 6th floor.

We appeared to have a cleaning cart permanently stored outside our room door. It looks as though they leave the cleaning carts in the hallways always, as we saw several others permanently left in hallways.

General upkeep of the rooms and hallways was shabby, although the rooms were clean and tidy. Beds were very hard, and only a thin sheet and blanket. i was actually cold some nights.

Breakfast was OK, but nothing great.

Room Tip: try get a high level, maybe the street noise will be better

I stayed at The Empire Hotel Wan Chai for five nights for a business convention. The first thing I noticed was the staff seemed very stiff and unwelcoming when I arrived, not very friendly and disappointing after a 15 hour flight from the States. The second issue are the rooms, they are really small, basically a bed and a bathrooom, not much space. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean, but too tight. The location is great, right in the middle of Wan Chai. The gym is decent, but the equipment is out of a date. The breakfast buffet is not that great, its pretty basic. Overall, this really feels like a 3 star hotel. If you are more interested in location, this is a perfect place. But, if you are looking for a hotel with comfort and service, I wouldn't recommend.

Located in the heart of Wan Chai, you can't go wrong with the geographical functionality of this hotel. Close to the convention center, the performing arts center and all of downtown Hong Kong Island, you shouldn't overlook this hotel if for those reasons alone. The room I stayed in was quite small and could have used some serious sprucing up (some nicks and dings on things, and there was a lack of hangars in the closet), but the staff is pleasant and the lobby is quite large for such a central hotel. I never made it to their pool area, but the breakfasts in the morning are sensational: an excellent choice between Western and traditional Chinese offerings. Delish. The wait for the elevators can be a bit of a pain when you get the loads of international tourists pouring in, and on several occasions, I felt like the WiFi was SERIOUSLY compromised by hackers. I'm not being paranoid: on three occasions, the cursor on my computer had a life of its own, and (literally) someone was virtually clicking on my screen -- creepy and unsafe -- but I can't tell if this is a hotel problem or an external one. HK is a very dense city, and this hotel can feel (most of the time) like a bit of a reprieve.

I recently stayed here for 8 days, had a very good experience staying here. Very convenient location for people visiting the jewellery show as the venue HKCEC is hardly 5 mins walk from here. Good Bars, Metro, 7Eleven all in a radius of 0.5 Kms.

We recently stayed here for 4 nights. Its location is in Wan Chai and is very close to some good bars, market shops, a 7 eleven across the road and the metro. The area is a little more run down and be aware there seem to be quite a few girly bars if you have a family.

The staff in the hotel were reasonable and polite, however not over friendly at all. There were few foreigners there when we stayed and English was OK but not great. Fine for check-in etc however more difficult if you want to use the concierge (who were very friendly) for directions etc.

The room was Ok – we were on the top floor, so it was quiet at least. Décor is older but functional; and the room is a little small however I suspect that this is normal for the region. The cleaning each day was very good and the ladies were very friendly. The hot water was great; and the bathroom functional.

Essentially it is a 3 star hotel with normal facilities, and if the price is right for you, and the area is suitable, then go for it.

The location is not far from Wanchai MTR ,very near the local market and shopping street.
A lot of restaurant and pub along Lockheart road easy to find food.
The room was large enough for me. I like the softness of the bed that make me have a good sleep.

The location is great, and that's all what is great about this hotel. We were there for 2 nights in December. There was no heating in the room, it was soooo cold. The room and bathroom were ok, bathroom was dirty (hair). Good breakfast. Not far from MTR and free shuttle bus to IFC outside the hotel.
Hotel is not bad but I wouldn't stay there again.
