Silvermine Beach Resort

Location: Perfect if you want to get away from the chaotic city. The hotel has a fantastic beach view (and i'm not much of a beach person) and it's barely a stroll away from Mui Wo jetty.

The room: I had the 'mountain view' room since i won't be in the room much. It had two separate beds and a folded bed cramped into a small space. I could barely move in there. The bed lamps were not working (i didn't mind the dimness). No mini bar. Two sachets of tea. Barely anything in the bathroom. Sufficient pillows and blankets.

*While walking along the corridor, i managed to peek into a "sea view" facing room during housekeeping. They were much bigger and have newer amenities. Really depends i guess*

Cleanliness: Decent.

Misc: What?! No wifi?! HKD100 per night for wifi? At this modern age, we shouldn't be paying for wifi... Swimming pool was closed because it's winter/spring/cold. Breakfast was provided in my package. But i would highly recommend to skip the breakfast and explore Mui Wo for local options. It's the same stuff EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The only saving grace was you get to sit outside al fresco style and enjoy the view. Other than that, i wouldn't pay for the breakfast.

Would i go back there again?: Yes. Just because i love Mui Wo and Lamma island so much.

Room Tip: If you are willing to pay for the "sea view" rooms, get those. If you are going to use the...

Great place but run so badly that they are short staffed in reception, housekeeping and restaurant.
For the buffet included they was only 3 staff working.
They could not do it all.
They even have to wash up cups and glasses at the bar area. Maybe over 100 guests.
My family and friends were 10 of us. No milk, no bread, no cups, no glasses, no replenishment of food even juices were empty.
No one to clear dirties from our table, I had to do it.
Even our table of 10 was set for only 6.
Once again great location, good staff, but short staff resulted in very bad service. Once again not the staff s fault but the management for cutting staff.
Absolutely ridiculous and we are not the only ones.
My dad needed a wheel chair and the receptionist wAs all alone to do anything, he tried but again no one to help us.

Only 30 min trip and you find yourself in a nice hotel on the beach. Cozy rooms, attentive staff and evening buffet will make your stay relaxing. You can enjoy staying on the beach or go hiking.
The hotel also has a garden and a swimming pool. Book in advance; it's usually full.

Very bad experience right from check in. The staff mostly teenagers and young kids were very rude with bad attitude. With this kind of staff the owners should be very worried about their investments. They created a fuss and argued endlessly when I asked for 2nd key card for my room. The room was OK but the bathroom was old and dirty. Music was playing very late right outside the window late into the night (from restaurant). Can you imagine a resort on beach side closing the swimming pool at 6 PM! The staff was in too much hurry to get us out right at 5:45 PM. The only good thing is the location of this place, right across the beach. The staff in the restaurant during breakfast were very good and helpful, while the food was so so.

Surprisingly close to the HKIA the route from the MTR leads you into Lantau .
Only the blue cabs or specific buses will get you to the Mui Wo stop from where you need to walk upto this hotel.
Pretty basic in facilities ( functional) the only usp is proximity to the ferry and the beach .
Obviously they want to capitalize on the location so even the wifi is chargeable ( 100HK $ per day ).
Staff was quite informative and helpful .
Breakfast was a good spread ( the coffee was great ) .
Overall a great place if you want a weekend away from the crowded city .

My young family just stayed at the hotel from the 23 of Dec to the 27th. While we loved the quietness, the room was very outdated and dirty. Internet service is charged and does not work well, carpets are filthy, and the water is slow with the drains not draining properly. The staff trys to be nice but does not offer anyything knowledgeble about what is going on at the hotel. The restaurant has the same, never changing, buffet for the mornings. They also had a "set" menu from the 23 to Jan 1 for dinners which was over 60 dollars per person. Nothing else allowed. I was served stale rock hard dinner rolls, a warmed over soup and instant potatoes with my poor quality steak. Pitiful greed with this resort. We ate at McDonalds for much better quality. Buyer beware with these guys. They DO take advantage of the travelling tourists.

Room Tip: Don't waste your money!

We have stayed at this hotel at least 4 times before. We love the location and it is perfect for visits with elderly parents. As my father is now in a wheelchair it was vital we got a ground floor room. I made several phone calls which were answered by a machine. No calls were returned. I eventually spoke to someone and booked 2 rooms in the most expensive wing which we had stayed in before. On arrival it was obvious the rooms had not been cleaned. Pencil shavings and hair were scattered over bathroom floor. Phoned reception who were very quick at sending someone. We went out for a walk and came back to find bits of pencil and hair still on floor. Phoned reception again and this time 3 people came. Housekeeping manager admitted it was unacceptable. We wouldn't have minded but we paid $1400 per room which was a lot more than previous stays. There were also LOTS of brown stains on the walls. Later my parents wanted to watch TV but that too was on the blink. When we checked out I asked to see the manager but was told he was out but that someone would call me. That was 3 weeks ago and no-one has replied. We love Mui Wo and the hotel is in a lovely location but it is doubtful we would return. Feel now that communication and cleanliness has nose dived whilst prices have soared. Big name hotels in Tung Chung are better value even if they are a clinical alternative.
