“Great gem in Mongkok”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2010

We stayed here for 9 nights during a vacation to HK! This hotel is amazing. The most memorable thing is the overall hospitality of the staff. By the way, Langahm Place "Angels"....you are great! They are the unnoffical hospitality staff for the hotel who are able to answer general questions about sightseeing in and around HK and helped with general hotel inquiries.

We had a basic room (still decent), with a flat screen TV, great view from 18th floor, and excellent room service. The hotel has a superb restuarant open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Breakfast was my favorite...though it was a bit on the expensive side. It was about 25.00 US for breakfast, but ohhh soooo good, especially the delicious freshly squeezed watermelon juice, mixed berry juice, and orange juice. The best thing about breakfast is that it had a mix of Asian and Western style breakfast.

The area of Mongkok was filled with wet markets, electronics markets, Ladies market, etc. It was near the metro (only 1 or 2 blocks away). Best of all, the hotel is connected to a MALL filled with eclectic shops and numerous restaurants. The hotel's rooftop pool was also amazing....located on the 42nd floor along with the huge fitness center....we spent all day at the hotel one day. The spa is great and worth the money.

Overall, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed. It had everything I could ask for!

Great views, excellent modern hotel, helpful staff, fantastic view, beautiful swimming pool and amazingly good value 2 Michelin star food just downstairs. Slightly out of the way but easy to get into town - and it is really interesting being within all the markets and hustle and bustle, and not just being on generic Hong Kong island. We're planning when we can go back!

My brother and I stayed here for 3 nights in January 2010. We had pre-arranged a limousine transfer from the airport and were whisked to the hotel in an S-class Mercedes. As we had booked a Club Place room, check-in was done in the Club lounge on the 36th floor. The staff is very friendly, Jasper in the Club Lounge checked us in and answered all the questions we had. Luggage arrived directly to the room- never had to touch it from the hotel counter at the airport.

The Club Lounge was less busy than expected (not complaining there!) and had a selection of beers, wine, appetizers and hotplates on offer. They have a whole schedule of offerings, including a dessert hour and a small breakfast. We opted instead for the full breakfast downstairs- I must say probably the best breakfast we have ever had! We looked forward to it everyday- the spread is quite something!

The location of the hotel makes it quite easy to get around HK. The Langham Place Mall, which is connected to the hotel, has an entrance to the Mong Kok MTR station. Buy an octopus card and you are good to go! The "Big Bus" tour which is your standard double decker tourist bus, has a stop at the mall as well.

Very technology focused hotel, the phone greets you by name and there is a wide variety of other gizmos (ipod dock, touch screen thermostat, wireless phone that works throughout the hotel)

The bathroom is complete with a full tub and a rain shower head. They also refresh a full amenity box everyday with everything you could want.

When we return to HK we will certainly stay here, I would wholeheartedly reccomend the Club Level room, it really is worth the extra!

I love this hotel and its staff. It is truly a great place, and part of a fantastic vision: it must have taken courage and extreme attention to detail and design to create Langham Place Hong Kong.

I stay here every chance. I have noticed only a few minor imperfections. The staff at this hotel are extremely professional and do take feedback seriously, so I am confident these may soon be taken care of:

1. In all the rooms I have stayed in, which must be 20 different ones, the sliding doors of the closet really do not work or slide as they should. They either stick or do not close completely, causing the light inside to stay on. This is really a minor thing but could easily be fixed;

2. There is a great light in the bathroom which illuminates from behind the mirror through some translucent material, giving a great effect, but in half the rooms now, this light does not work: again really minor thing;

3. The fitness/gym/spa is truly glorious on the 41st floor, but the locks on the lockers all have these cheap locks, and when you try to open with the key, they stick or do not open easily. Since one has to access the locker usually at least twice or three times, this is a little annoying;

4. This hotel has become very popular with local Hong Kong residents especially for weddings. This is a great thing for them; this hotel should be considered almost a cultural landmark of Mongkok now. The only problem is that there are few events in the universe louder than even a few cantonese people celebrating a big occasion, and if they are doing this is in an adjacent room or even above or below the room you are staying, I assure you it will not be a relaxing time for you. The hotel should make sure to house celebrating guests of these events in non-adjacent rooms to normal tourists and especially business travelers;

5. As some other reviewers have noted, a few rooms do smell of smoke even though they are offered as non-smoking room. This is really the fault of smoker guests either not realizing they are in a non-smoking room (it really is not clearly indicated) or smoker guests diliberately smoking where they should not. There does not seem to be a posted penalty for smoking in a non-smoking room as in some other hotels. The staff will offer to place an ionizing air filter of some sort in the offending room for you, but this really does not do the trick. Such rooms really need thorough cleaning of all fabric before they can be offered as non-smoking rooms;

6. The Club L is fantastic, but a nice time can be spoiled completely by families bringing small children in and not supervising them: they really sometimes cause a huge distraction, running all throughout the otherwise wonderful club rooms, even using the espresso machine as a toy. This is really an issue with the parents and not the hotel staff, but perhaps some rule could be put into place.

Aside from these small issues, I have always had a nice time at this hotel.

My wife and I travel to Hong Kong 4 times a year and try different hotels each time. The Langham Place smelled like mold constantly. When we first arrived in our room, it smelled like cigarettes. If the AC is not left running on constantly, the humidity and cigarette smell start to over power the room.
The rooms are small and we felt something in the room with us most of the time, like some sort of presence. The television turned ON twice on it's own during our 3 day stay. My wife was petrified because of the eerie feeling she got when alone in the room.
Manager was arrogant to us and condescending. He was very unprofessional also.
Do not be lured by the 5 star rating of this hotel nor location.

Great hotel, lovely helpful people. Rooms good, bit small. Overall good hotel. Expensive to get laundry done though. Easy walking to train station.

A fantastic hotel! The staff and service are beyond compare. The hotel is clean, modern and very well appointed. The choice and quality of restaurants is superb, especially the buffet in the "The Place" and the Michelin starred “Ming Court". The pool on the 42nd floor is a great feature but for relaxation the real gem is the spa and all the treatments it offers. The hotel is easily accessible from the efficient MTR allowing easy transport throughout Kowloon and on to Hong Kong Island. Step outside the hotel and you are in the teeming Mong Kog district with its street markets and small shops and you’ll see the real Hong Kong. I can not praise this hotel enough!
