The City Garden is not exactly in the heart of things, nor is the surrounding neighborhood (although apparently safe) very uplifting, so if you want to be where the action is, either in Hong Kong or Kowloon, or if you are put off by urban grunge, you will have to pay more for "better" locations. But if, on the other hand, you are willing to invest some moderately substantial time and energy, using public transportation to get to where you want to go, and if you can tolerate workaday, big city sights and smells, then the City Garden is a good, reasonably-priced, clean, well-run place to stay.

Finding close-by places to eat, on the other hand, we found to be a problem. The in-house Garden Cafe seems expensive, but is convenient and provides a substantial variety of good-quality food.

We found the concierge service not very helpful, but individual staff members went out of their way to help us deal with the few coping-with-a strange-city problems we encountered.

Overall, our impression was that the City Garden is really meant to serve business people, especially those in town for events at the nearby Convention Center, but is nonetheless a good choice for leisure travelers who are not looking for the deluxe ambience, amenities, or prices of The Peninsula, the InterContinental, or the Mandarin Oriental.

Stayed here recently for a 2 week holiday and were quite happy with the hotel. Location is bit away from all the happening parts of Hong KOng Island but can be easily reached by bus or MTR. Room was a little tired and could have done with some refurbishement, but saying that had everything you need (air con, fridge, hair dryer, internet access & tea/coffee making facilities, Safe & Ironing board on request). We had a meal in the Hotel Satay restaurant which was fine, and had breakfast once in the hotel which was OK but a little expensive.

The location of the hotel is 5 minutes from Fortress Hill MTR and there are loads of buses and trams that stop very nearby. You can use the A11 bus to get from the airport which costs $40(=£3.60) and takes about about 75 minutes. Get an oyster card to travel around as its accepted everywhere and makes life very easy (Buses, Trams, MTR, Star Ferry and One Ferry) - Also accepted in some shops including McD's, BK, KFC, Circle K, Starbucks & 7-11. Overall good hotel to use as a base with plenty of local restaurants nearby if you want to go native. The take away at the market is good for cheap tasty food.

A few pointers to help other travellers, there are several laundry shops in the nearby streets which will do laundry very cheaply compared to the hotel. There is a 7-11 store next to hotel which is massively cheaper for drinks and snacks. There is a welcome supermarket across the little park in front of the hotel which is also worth checking out. The public library is 2 mins walk from hotel next to the market which has Free internet access either by using a terminal or logging to their WIFI (all public buildings in HK offer this - some MTR stations also have terminals for free internet access).

If you are offered the choice to pay in sterling whilst using your credit/debit card, take it as you won't pay any charges and the rates are good. Worth taking more cash as local exchange rates much better than UK. Worth letting your card providers know you are going to the Far East to avoid any security lock outs.

A few sights worth taking in are: Temple Street night market with a visit to one of the seafood restaurants, A visit to the Peak, the Giant Budha on Lantau Island, The nightly laser show at the harbour side (best from Kowloon looking across to HK island), a trip to Macau. There is a ladies clothing outlet market with several hundred shops in the industrial part of HK which well worth a look if you have room in the suitcase, oh and there is an Adidas factory shop on the 7th floor too.

Overall had a terrific time and would recommend HK to anybody as a destination. If you don't like heat & humidy, then plan to go Novermber - March.

We booked a premier room for 3 days 2 nights stay at city garden hotel hong kong via www.agoda.com. Everything was well taken cared of including my request of 2 single beds, non-smoking room and high floor. Check in was a breeze and we were up in our room in no time. ]

Reception mentioned that they have upgraded our room from a premier room to a signature room at no extra cost. Great! We were even given a HK$100 food voucher and 2 free drinks voucher that we can use at their 2 restaurants, Yue and Garden Cafe, respectively.

Hotel is located near fortress hill mtr station. Around 5 to 10 mins. walk from the hotel to the station. 7-11 just beside the hotel. Welcome Super Store is a few minutes walk away.

Travelling back from Australia I spent two days in Hong Kong with one night at the City Garden. Although I arrived at 10 am I was immediately shown to my room, which was large, very modern, with good quality furniture and soft furnishings, cocealed mini fridge, tea/coffee making, complimentary water & toiletries, large flat screen tv with cable channels, very modern bathroom with bath as well as shower. The staff were absolutely superb, service was wonderful and nothing too much trouble. Hotel guests are given discount vouchers for the coffee shop, where magnificent buffets are served at very reasonable prices and the service is superb. The hotel operates a free mini bus services to various points. As it was extremely hot in Hong Kong and my flight did not leave until midnight, I was extremely grateful that Kirsy, my travel agent who always comes up trumps, had arranged a 6pm check out at no extra charge.

We stayed here for a night in a deluxe room and we had a relaxing and comfortable stay. I even fell asleep at the window sofa. It was so comfy.

pros:
> Elegant looking and large room. Looks newly renovated.
> Lots of local Chinese restaurant around the vicinity. On a glance, you'll think all their menus are in Chinese but they do have English menu when requested. One night, we randomly pick a restaurant and man, their sweet and sour pork was awesome! Sorry forgot the restaurant name. There's also 7/11 near the hotel.
> Around 10-15 walk from the MRT station (does not include the time from the train to the streets -- 30 mins or so... it was tiring).
> Baby cart is available upon request
> Free shuttle to Times Square

cons:
> Crowded street, well I guess this is normal here, not baby and stroller friendly
> Not that nice view outside from the hotel

We spent a couple of days at this hotel while my husband attend a conference. I went along to do some sightseeing. This hotel is a older Hilton hotel. The bathroom is small and the air condition is pretty noisy when the fan is on. The decor is outdated. The location is very convenient and near bus stop & metro. You can get to DC in 25 minutes on metro orange line. The service is fine. The staffs are helpful with the direction and maps are readily available. If you don't mind the noisy air condition fan kicking on & off, it will do fine for one or two nights. Value wise, it is not cheap & internet is extra. I would say you are paying for the Hilton name and convenience to DC.

We were really pleased with this hotel. We caught the A11 bus from the airport which stops about half a block from the hotel on Electric Road (no need to lug your bags up and down the MTR and its way cheaper). Although we arrived before check in time, they gave us a room so that we could take a shower and rest. It wasn't a problem at all for them to switch us from that room (a twin room) to a queen room. At first, they gave us a room on a smoking floor but when we requested a non smoking floor they didn't hesitate to change us again. Everything is really clean, rooms recently refurbished and the room is serviced daily. You also get the newspaper too. While it is not in the middle of all the 'action' its very easy to travel by MTR everywhere. Air con was great too, which is what you need when its humid! We were on the 18th floor so noise isn't a problem. Would definately stay there again.
