“Very good for a Hong Kong stay”
Reviewed May 23, 2014

I used to live near this hotel so knew it was one of Hong Kong's hidden gems. Why ? Prices of hotels in HK have shot up in recent years with the influx of mainland tourists. The good hotels are beyond the budget of most of us and the mid and lower tier hotels are often poorly located, have very small rooms and really aren't that cheap.

BLH is one of the (if the only) hotel in the upper mid levels. That means upper floor rooms simply have some of the best views of HK. It's a few minutes walk to the escaltor and the entertainment of the SOHO area. Food in the hotel is average but it's HK so you don't want to be in your hotel anyway. Taxi's are always available on Robinson Rd and it's a short hop down to the airport station.

Like most HK hotels the rooms aren't big but they are adequate. Price wise you won't find better value in HK. Staff are friendly by HK standards so there's really no hassle staying at BLH.

Overall I would always recommend this as tourist hotel or for business people on a budget. I don't often rate hotels this highly but being a former HK resident I think I have a little inside track. In fact I wasn't going to write the hotel up here less I contributed to it's increased popularity !

Room Tip: book a suite, ask for a high floor room facing the central district of HK below

8 family members stayed at this hotel. It was a business hotel and quite busy with quite a large turnover of guests. The breakfast was not included. Staff were very helpful and the drop facility to the airport and every day into central was very useful. I was surprised to be asked for payment half way through our 10 day stay for half the cost and then pay the other half on day of departure.

I think in Hong Kong you 'get what you pay for' so this was a reasonably priced hotel and the rooms were well serviced every day.

Room Tip: my corner suite on 8th floor was fine....some family members were on much higher floors and no compl...

If you are going to Hong Kong on a business visit and would like to stay at a decent property close to the central business district and at the same time slightly off from the commotion, Bishop Lei is the place to be in. It is in fact walkable from Central via the mid levels escalator and has complimentary drop facility to Central and Admirality in the mornings. However, don't try to reach the hotel walking from the central by road as it is a very steep uphill climb. Though the rooms are small but the location of the hotel is superb among the slightly upmarket locality in the city. One service they can very well add is a complimentary breakfast in the tariff.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side have a panoramic view of the central side from atop the cliff.

The Bishop Lei's nearly perfect location off the mid-level escalators is more than offset by the imperious and insufferable attitude of its staff, and the inconvenience of actually booking and staying there. Despite being able to book on-line, there is no way to actually pay on-line, so after booking I received continuous threatening notes from the Bishop Lei staff demanding payment within 24 hours or my booking would be cancelled. After figuring out the only way to provide payment was to actually call, I found to my dismay that the only staff who could actually handle payment are available only when I am normally asleep. This took three days to coordinate and ended up with me staying up until all hours just to be able to confirm a booking. The insult to injury came when our US-based carrier suffered a mechanical problem, eventually cancelling our outbound flight to Hong Kong and rescheduling for the next day. I kept the staff in the loop first that we would likely be quite delayed, and then that we needed to change our booking to the next day. Rather than expressing concern for our inconvenience at missing 1/2 of our time in Hong Kong, the first comment from the hotel was to imperiously state that they would hold me liable, of course, for the night we did not arrive. Having worked in three different industries, including hospitality, I would never hold a customer responsible for something completely out of their control. Despite its nostalgic location near where we used to live in Hong Kong, I will not stay at the Bishop Lei again, and neither should you.
[Editor's Note: I stayed at this hotel on April 16, 2014 with three rooms and six people. For reasons that are not at all clear to me, Trip Advisor sent me a note stating I had not stayed at this property. This report is accurate and deserves to be published!]

Stayed here as there was a promotional rate at that time. The location is good as it is close to the mid levels escalator, clubs and night life of Hong Kong.

I found the room to be very small and smelled of cigarettes.

No major problems with this hotel, but I think there are far better options in the area.

This hotel is ideally placed in mid levels close to good buses, they also have a shuttle service. The views from the rooms are spectacular. The swimming pool is small but very clean and the attendants look after you well. The rooms are small but comfortable. The receptionists although friendly treat you as if you were a student and do not provide a service that you would expect from a hotel. The dining room reminds me of a student hall of residence, but don't let this put you off as the food is fresh (although simple). It also stays open quite late and at night the food and service is friendly and good.

Room Tip: Choose a harbour room high up and pay the extra for a suite because the normal rooms are small
