“Clean but not convenient for a first comer in Hong Kong”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

This was my first tour to Hong Kong. I reached the hotel at 2 pm, but had to wait more than two hours to get a room though I booked the room from Agoda much earlier. But I was delighted to get a harbor view suit what the hotel staffs upgraded from my booked deluxe room. Room was good providing nice views. Overall cleanliness is good. Staffs are cordial and friendly. But they failed to give me a run down about tourist attractions. If you are a first comer in HK, then the location is not convenient for you. Though there are shuttle buses to nearest places, but if you want to walk around and try to find some places of interests then this hotel is not suitable because roads are steep and without taxi or shuttle buses you can't move around easily. And the shuttle bus drivers are not at all friendly, especially the one who drives to Central and Hong Kong Station. From his behavior it seems that he is doing a favor. If you are a first time visitor in HK , then select a different location, may be main Central ( near to MTR) or Tshim Sha Sui...Then you can roam around like a tourist and easily reach your hotel whenever you feel like. Now about the food - there is no bar, and you can't choose as you like as the dishes are limited...I want to give hardly 4 points out of 10...

Room Tip: If you at all want to stay at this hotel then choose a harbor view room...and keep some more cash re...

Bishop Lei is a no-nonsense place to stay. The rooms are small, just like most other hotel rooms in HK, but they have everything you need and are clean. The location of the hotel is great, it's easy to get in to town from here with a lot of restaurants and shops within a few minutes walk.

If you're looking for a good place to stay without over paying for fancyness this is your hotel. If you're looking for something more fancy expect to pay double and go somewhere else.

Hotel staff are not friendly or hospitable...otherwise the hotel is in good location if you plan to go to the peak, and the view from the room is great especially at night with the city lights. The rooms are too small.

At first glance the Bishop Lei appears to be isolated. A 2 minute walk north brings you to the escalators that take you up and down the hillside from mid-levels, through some amazing restaurant neighborhoods and all the way down to Central Station if you want to save some taxi fare.
If you're coming from HKG Int'l airport just take the express train to the end of the line (central station) and a 5 minute $15 HKD ride will have you at the hotel.
An oddity.. I've stayed at 5 hotels in Hong Kong and Mainland China. this is the FIRST not to provide complimentary (cheap) bottled water to it's guests.
They all do it because the water is not potable (drinkable) and poses a safety risk to travellers (and locals honestly).
this left me boiling water and drinking tea. a quick trip to a nearby 7-11 (yes they have those), cured the problem for very little money, but still all the hotels i previously stayed at provided water. I did not chase the issue down while there, just be prepared to take care of yourself.

Room Tip: Beware the basic room.. IT'S SMALL! like.. JUST barely bigger than the bed.

Good value for money, near the central (a bus stop in front of the hotel door, mostly all the buses go to the central).

It is very near to Soho area, and the Lang kwon fong (if I remember the name right :D) where you can have a very good night life.

The service is gruff and unpleasant for no reason. (Note to Hotel Staff - If you plan a career in the hospitality indusrty, it is a good idea to be hospitable). The rooms are very small, so small in fact we had to move the bed side table so we could both get out of bed. The location is well out of the way, so if you don't want to be in the Mid-Levels, don't stay here.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms.

We stayed two nights at Bishop Lei over New Year. Like previous contributors, we found this to be good value and an honest and reliable hotel, with very good and attentive service. Having arrived from a long haul flight with two ill children (a baby and a four year old) we were particularly grateful to be allowed an early check in and for the hotel's kind assistance in cleaning a pram which bore all the evidence from a sick baby! The views from the harbour suite were fantastic, and while it was slightly squeezy with 2 adults and 2 kids, it was certainly manageable, particularly for 2 nights. We would certainly recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying again.
