“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

Extremely good hotel, well located in Hong Kong. The rooms were small, but everything was within walking distance and being close to the escalators was a real bonus. It is The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a shuttle bus to pick you up after your flight and drop you off downtown and the price was very reasonable.

Room Tip: Worth paying a bit extra for a room with a view.

Stayed there on a long weekend in dec 2012. Location is almost at the peak from the escalator with a left hand turn on mosque street and a 5 min walk. The standard rooms are SMALL, don't ever consider bringing 2 pieces of standard luggage. With the 2 cabin bags we brought there was still problems with were to put them. Rooms are clean and standard is ok. Breakfast served is a standard buffé until 1000, later you need to pay by a la carte. The location is nice and quiet, personell at hotell were really nice to us.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for!

Pretty fun to be situated high up in the mid levels, and going through all the escalators to go all the way up to the hotel. Room size was pretty small. Basic amenities were all there ; hot water, free wifi etc. Free shuttle available every 20 mins to Central or Admiralty MTR station. Hotel staff speaks relatively good english as well. The only downside is the shower room seems to be clogged often.

Hong Kong is an expensive town, but at least the Bishop Lei puts you in the middle of it. The room was pretty dated, but fine. I was staying in a harbour view suite and had a great view over the aviary. Quite liked the wake up call by a miriad of tropical bird songs.

I've stayed here a few times, and on each occasion I've been struck by what a good deal this represents in terms of its locale. While the standard doubles are nothing special in themselves, they are a tad larger than you generally get in this part of town for this sort of price. The great deal here is to be found in the suites, which offer a decent sized bedroom and an adequate sized lounge area. Well worth paying the extra for.

I love the location. It's a little out of central 'Central' in a residential area, but that for me is part of its charm. But let's not get too carried away, there's nothing charming about the hotel itself; it's an ugly looking building, and the interior design, whilst perfectly inoffensive, is unimaginative in a business hotel kind of way. The pool is a nice touch, although it's not big enough for any serious swimming. Don't bother with the cafe, it's overpriced and awful. The staff are on the brusque side, but did everything I wanted them to do efficiently.

An excellent deal given its location.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the suite. Never ever use the laundry service - it costs a fortune!

I stayed here for 5 nights. It was a solo business trip -- the hotel was chosen for me and wasn't in the area I'd normally choose in HK, but it turned out to be great and I'll happily stay here again. The rates were very reasonable for HK.
My room was the size of a pocket handkerchief -- far too small to swing a cat in!! -- but fine if you're only going to use it for sleeping. There was a little pull out desk which was perfectly adequate for setting up my laptop and working. There was also free wifi for guests. The cupboard was tiny, but adequate for hanging a couple of suits/dresses, and there was a free in-room safe. The bathroom was spacious with nice fluffy towels, and the shower had a brilliant choice of powerhead or diffused flow.
The double bed was rather firm, but perfectly OK, with a nice cosy doona/duvet and comfy pillows. I was there during an unusually cold period and the hotel happily provided an extra blanket for me.
Breakfast was included but I skipped it. I did walk past the dining room one morning and the breakfast looked fine.
The location was good. It's in Central on HK Island, just a block from the (free) mid-levels escalator which runs till midnight. It's also only 5-10 mins to walk to the party area of Central, though perhaps wear flats rather than heels!!
Plus it's on handy bus routes -- the stop is right outside the front door -- so I was able to get everywhere without needing taxis. Bishop Lei has its own free shuttle bus too, which runs hourly and collects from the Airport Express bay at Central Station, as well as other useful locations. It's only a 5min trip by this shuttle down from the hotel into the middle of Central's nice shopping district.
The staff were all lovely and helpful. Although the rooms were fairly soundproof, one night the person in the room next to me had the TV blaring at about 2am, keeping me awake. I eventually rang Reception, who sent someone up to listen from the hall to confirm the noise. They then phoned the room next door and the noise problem was solved.
Really, this was a great place to stay. If I had to pick fault, I'd say the wait for the lifts was too long, especially at peak hour (there are three, but one was out of order), but that was such a minor gripe it's barely worth mentioning. If you're looking for somewhere reasonably priced to stay on HK Island and you don't mind a mini-room, this really is a top choice!

Room Tip: The suites are much bigger and nicer, with views towards the harbour, but also much more expensive...
