“Convenient location for HK Exhibition Center”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

Wharney's location is convenient for those needing to go to the Exhibition Center. It is literally just 10 minutes away (have to find route closest). The rooms though small are clean. Breakfast selection also sufficient and food delicious enough. Staff though lacks warmth but are efficient. Was able to use the gym on some days. Over-all if not for the exhibition center, we would not stay here as the area has many girly bars. So for location you both have pros and cons.

Stayed here recently whilst at a conference at the HKCC. The hotel is brilliantly located for this and I walked to the conference every day. Easy access to the MTR too and if you get the train from the airport, the stop near the hotel is only one stop from central, making life easy.

It's in the red light district however, so be prepared for barely clad cleavage in the early evenings but having said that, I just find it all amusing so hey ho (literally?!)

The room I stayed in (superior) was pretty pokey and average with a small bathroom. This is Hong Kong and you get what you pay for though so for the price I paid, it certainly was reasonable value for monye. One thing that irked me though was the hotel website advertises free wifi then didn't provide me with free wifi (as "my rate didn't cover it".) Bypassed this issue by buying a 'me-fi' from a local electronics shop and a data sim and I had no probs with internet after that.

Minibar well stocked - I didn't use and there is no provided shampoo, only body wash in a tub on the wall of the shower.

The check in experience was easy and check out was too, so no qualms there.

Overall the WGDH is exactly what you might expect for this price bracket. You're not going to get a wonder-room but having said that, I was pleased with the room and would stay again. The location particularly, can't be beaten!

The room had a comfortable bed but the bathrooms need overhaul. I mean, how many people take baths in hotel tubs anymore?
Ditch the tubs and install a decent shower stall. Standing in a tub trying to shower while keep bumping into the shower curtain is annoying, then having to step over the edge of the tub to get in/out is worse.

All was clean but I doubt the lobby is. There must be smell they are trying to cover because it wreaks of heavy perfume. It's as if they wash the floor of the lobby with some cheap perfume. Gave me a headache everytime I passed through.

The place is smack in the middle of the bar street, Lockhart Rd. Walk this road only if you don't mind touts constantly trying to get you in their doors to watch 'dancers' (hookers) strut around and proposition you. No thanks!

Great location , close to restaurants and bars, good hotel but basic amenities, breakfast is good , but can get better out side for cheaper, staff friendly and willing to help with any thing , would stay here all the time when in Hong Kong ,

Room Tip: try to get high floor with front view , as there can be some traffic noise

A modern hotel with all the usual facilities. Quiet despite its proximity to the night-life of Wan Chai. The exterior was (still) being painted (bamboo scaffolding!) whilst we were there for five nights in late May / early June but no real issues. Small (this is HK) but clean rooms and helpful staff - but most seemed surprisingly unfamiliar with spoken English. The WiFi is free for some rooms / rates! The code you need is your room number and your date of birth! We were allowed use of the gym changing rooms the evening of the day we checked out which was nice after another day in the humid heat....I would stay again.

Room Tip: Go high (for quiet) and check the WiFi

Personally I love it, the location that is. You are a short walk from the MTR so easy to get around Hong Kong, and when you get back in the evening you right in the middle of all the bars, restaurants and nightlife that Wanchai is famous for.

The hotel itself is nothing special but it represents good value for what it is. The rooms may be getting a bit tired however they are clean and reasonably well maintained. The service I encountered was briskly efficient in the normal Hong Kong way.

I would have liked to comment on the quality of the breakfast that was included in my room package however, and this is a location-driven problem, I found I overslept in the morning before finally waking with a somewhat fuzzy head. Breakfast therefore consisted of several paracetamol from the 7-11 around the corner and a vow never to stay so close to the bars of Wanchai again. This will be of course until my next visit where I will most likely choose to stay at the Wharney again.

Well located near the HKCC and the MTR station, as the hotel is in the busy part of Wanchai it can get a bit crazy at night will all the clubs and bars around.

There is a good selection of restaurants around or you can get the MTR to Central or Causeway Bay for a more civilised variety.
The hotel itself was Ok - I booked an executive room which was slightly bigger but still small by other standards.
The Bed was hard as a rock and the pillows were too high to sleep on, but a positive is you can turn off the aircon which makes it more bearable.
You get free wifi but it keeps dropping out and you have to log in again - a bit of a pain .
For breakfast your better off walking 100m to Deli France and having a half decent breakfast - the hotel option is very limited to bread , cereal and coffee.
There seems to be newer hotels being built in the area if you are visiting for a trade show - I'd look around or try Causeway Bay as its only 10 mins travel by the MTR.

Room Tip: Check that there is no construction going on - I caught with this from 9am to 6pm 6 days
