Kowloon Shangri-La Hong Kong
Ranked #14 of 726 Hotels in Hong Kong
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 8, 2013

There's really not much to complain about at the Kowloon Shangi La. The lobby is great, so your welcome to the hotel is impressive. The location is excellent, if being in walking distance to the Kowloon shopping areas is of interest.

Room service is a bit slow, to be honest, but the food is very good.

The rooms are large, modern and luxurious. Because of the way the hotel is angled, the views from the "harbour view" rooms, while great, are not of the entire Hong Kong harbour....as they are at the Intercontinental. So if you are a fan of pure views.....while the Shangri La's is really, really good, the views at the IC are even better. But this is really splitting hairs:-)

Of the really upper end hotels in the immediate area, the Peninsula, the Intercontinental, and the Shangri La, I would probably opt for the IC, purely because of the views...and the rest of the IC is pretty special as well.

The Pen is a small level above the Shangri La, but also a lot more expensive, so unless money is no object, the SL is a better deal for the cost.

If it's an all-out weekend, and money isn't an issue, I'd go for one of the harbour view rooms at the Pen. But these will set you back a LOT. The IC has better views than the SL, but the SL is a bit more impressive in other ways....so that's a toss up.

The reality is, that you'd be over the moon with any of these hotels, including the Shangri La! 'A great hotel by anyone's definition.

I stayed in a Horizon club room and the staff in the horizon club are amazing, what fantastic service.
They find you a seat, get you food and drinks direct to the table, you don't have to lift a finger if thats what you like. The view of the harbour from the club is also breath taking.
This Shangri La and the Shangri La Shenzhen rate for me as the 2 best customer service hotels that I have ever stayed in and I have been to a lot of luxury hotels in many countries. The management should be very proud of the culture and level of customer service. The room was well appointed but not extravagant and the hotel is located about 5 minutes walk from Nathan road which I actually liked because of less crowd and no annoying hawkers trying to sell you fake watches and cheap suits. I will stay here on my next visit.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, get a harbour view room.

Hotel was booked through Singapore Air Vacation Package, so didn't really have a choice. Regardless, excellent choice. Would likely stay again after a 15 hour flight since it really helps with jetleg! (elevator rugs tell you what day of the week it is...so incredibly handy)

Beyond absolutely lovely, warm, wonderful service. Impeccably clean, relatively quiet (since it's facing busy Salisbury Road). Knowledgable concierge with great english & mandarin. Streaming speaker from TV to bathroom. (beyond awesome for taking a shower to music to wake up). Wonderful staff, great turn down service, fruit platter & tea upon arrival! They even folded my PJs and clothing! Lots of drawers in closet for organizing clothes. Razors/shaving cream, toothbrush/toothpaste, hairtie, toiletries, complimentary water provided. Refrigerator is full of pay-drinks, but there is one shelf you can use to store small stuff like an orange or small treats. An empty fridge would probably be more useful (so much tasty food in HK!) Rainfall shower from ceiling in addition to handheld shower in bathroom. Lobby is absolutely lovely and relaxing. Didn't get a chance to try the gym (open 24 hrs), jacuzzi, spa or pool (closes at 10 pm)

Business center is great--they have SIM cards available for $80 HKD and will activate for you. Complimentary shuttle to Star Ferry terminal & China Ferry Terminal provided (no luggage allowed). Highly recommend Harbour-side room. It helps with jetlag after a 15 hour flight to see the sun rise over HK Island, and joggers along the promenade.

Incredibly convenient and close to MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui (Exit P) station with connecting tunnel to MTR Tsim Sha Tsui station. View of Night Light show from room, quick stroll from hotel to Avenue of Stars. Walking distance to Sam's Tailor on Nathan Road & everything else on Nathan Road. Lots of watering holes, Chinese BBQ, cheap HK food, street food stands, sushi, izakayas, and Indian food (inside Chungking Mansions 5 min away on Nathan Road)

One complaint: we stayed in a nonsmoking floor (7th floor), but could smell some faint cigarette smoke through the ventilation in the bathroom. Probably from the 8th floor above or a nearby guest who is disobeying the nonsmoking rule. Was a little bit annoying, but probably an isolated instance.

I have to find the executive desk chair. It is so freaking comfy.

Now my absolute favorite hotel <3. They think of everything you could possibly think of. Wish I could stay again!

Room Tip: Full harbour side view, higher up. Tourists take photos of the harbour side view rooms from the prom...

This hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed at. Great location overlooking the harbor and across from the train station. The rooms are heaven- great beds, products and service. The service is great with very knowledgable staff. We had a great experience at the spa as well. The morning buffet was great with food from around the world. I am a hotel snob... This place is fantastic!

Everything about our stay at the Shangri-la Kowloon was exceptional. Our 3-generation family, including a rambunctious toddler and an infant were wonderfully accommodated. The location was perfect for a brief visit to the magnificent city.

Room Tip: The very spacious interconnecting rooms were perfect for our stay. The room was beautifully appointe...
