Firstly, the hotel is located 10 minutes away (by car) from the main train station in downtown HK. Access is very easy and a shopping mall is just downstairs.

Arriving at the hotel, we had our bags handled immediately from the car all the way to the room without any hassle. Check-in was quick and everyone was jovial and friendly.

The hotel lobby looks a little tired but it is not a big deal. We had 2 adjoining rooms (on one of the highest floors) and they had wonderful views of the city and the mountains.

The blinds are electric. There is a mini chandelier in both rooms and the beds are very comfortable. Each room also has a big flat screen TV with a surprisingly large amount of channels available.

There is also a LCD TV in the bathroom. The bathroom has a very nice size to it and all amenities provided are decent.

For 4 out of the 5 days we were there, we had a very good housekeeper. Each day, the housekeeper would fold our clothes and pack our shopping items for us very neatly, except for 1 day, don't know what happened there.

The tea place downstairs serves very good english tea and cakes. The main Chinese restaurant however, is not up to par with the other Shangri-La's.

All in all, it was a very comfortable stay at the Island Shang and I will most definately return.

I had high expectations of this Hotel prior to arriving based on friends recommendations. I can happily report that things went well.

Check-in was very smooth, we had a guest relations lady meet us as we walked in the door and show us straight to our room ,where all the formalities were taken care of. Very efficient.

Spa, lovely. Had a swedish massage for 90 mins and thought I was in heaven.

Room. Had a mountain view which was nice enough, room was clean and large as was the bathroom. Only fault would be TV still old CRT style, but not an issue.

Food. Like most hotels, room service was mediocre at best. However I would recommend the restaurant Petrus, excellent food and service.Black truffle soup to die for. Top class!! So good I even managed to get engaged there.

Overall: Excellent hotel with great service. Nothing negative to say at all.

I stayed with a group of friends for couple of days shopping in Hongkong, the hotel is nicely located over a mall which is convinient from this point of view, the room is good and well equipped with all the needs of todays traveller.

My only draw Back is the price, its too pricey, for an executive floor room for 500 USD while not feeling you are getting that value, for example there is no executive lounge, I belive this is a big draw back and should be addressed, how can you be on a club level with no lounge !!!

away from that the service is upto the standard of shangrila.

P.S: the hill view is not bad, go for it its actually nice as well.

We stayed at the Island Shangri-la in Hong Kong for 3 nights and we loved it. We really couldn't fault anything that we experienced at the hotel. The hotel was beautiful with an amazing mural running the span of the floors which you can see as you go down in the glass life. Having not been to HK before we enlisted the help of the Concierge to help, what a gem of knowledge, he recommended us 2 restaurants both of which were superb and if we make it back to HK will be going to again. As you know it's a life of who you know, and he got us into both on short notice when they were both heavily booked. The small touches make such a difference to you stay - a pot of tea on arrival as is customary with all Shangri-las, a basket of fruit, and after making our dinner reservations with the concierge at reception by the time we got to the room we had confirmation by fax, phone and on the TV - very slick. We used the gym and the pool and the facilities and service in both was fantastic.
There is no doubt that we will be staying there again on the next trip,

5night stay 25DEC-31DEC. Our 2nd visit and it didnot
disappoint. Peak view room, not harbour view, but still
pretty spectacular to wake up to the view of the Peak
and the skyscrapers that climb up the mountainside.

Check in was swift . Tea service in room and bowl of
fresh fruits.. Immaculate room. Very comfortable King Bed. Requested rollaway set up immediately. Bathroom well lit with bidet and a tub/shower combination and a flat screen TV, a nice touch, makeup mirror and bathroom scale as all Shangri-la's have. Aigner toiletries. Large work desk with various configurations of power plugs and RJ45 connection. 2 chairs plus 1 desk chair and a small round table for the tea
and fruits.

Check the hotel directory and see the items that can be
requested...from baby needs to ipod speakers..a nice touch indeed. We requested firm pillows and when we
returned to our room there was a mountain of different
pillows on the bed to choose from.

Atrium with a huge mural that is in the centre of the hotel and stretches its full interior length is a pleasant feature. Adds to the
feeling of serenity when stepping out of the elevators.

Staff at all levels were polite, efficient and prompt. The system
always displays guest names when one interfaces with
staff at the front or on the phone so you are recognized
by your name. Nice. Sadly missing is a certain charm
that one finds in similar 5 star properties for eg in
Thailand or Bali. This is no fault of the Shangri-La
but endemic of any big city.

Location is quite good and central. Attached to Pacific Place
and the MTR. For those wishing an escape from formal
F&B(which are excellent) unfortunately the food fair is
no longer there. From the hotel one can walk up to
the Peak Tram station as well as Hong Kong park.
The bright lights of Kowllon side and particularly Tsim Sha Tsui
is a 10minute MTR ride away.

My wife's birthday happened during our stay. And the hotel
presented a beautiful and tasty birthday cake! That was
indeed a suprise and added to our full enjoyment of
our stay.

In the current evolving 5 star category, ensuites
must have a separate shower and sufficient size
to accommodate such a configuration. The Island Shang
lacks this but still qualifies to be in this elevated catagory.
Room size in Hong Kong island is limited by availabillity
of land and the one of the highest per sq meter costs in
the world.

At check out we encountered a problem that the front desk was not able to resolve. One of our party had made serveral attempts
to place a long distance call without connecting. The hotel charges a 71HKD(approx CAD10) for each dialled attempt
even if the call doesnot go through. There were 23 attempts.. no small number or amount. We felt that this was below the standard and policies of a hotel of this caliber

Upon our return home, we received an email from Guest Service
thanking for our visit. I replied outlining our disatisfaction with
the long distance charges and the policy. Within 24hours
we received a call from the Island Shangri-la and were told
that we would be credited for all the failed calls.

A measure of the quality and standards of any business is
how issues are resolved . It is quite fine when systems and
processes run as planned and smoothly. The mark
of the good and the best is how quickly problems are addressed and resolved. The Island Shang proves that they are worthy
of their 5star status.

Yes we will return

Really great location next to luxury shopping mall and park. We stayed in the lowest category room (deluxe peakview) and had no complaints. Service was excellent, staff couldn't do enough for us and our 2 kids, great welcome. Breakfast amazing, loved the outdoor pool - a great stay.
