“Outstanding hotel with excellent service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

The rooms are posh, spacious and immaculate. Staying on the Horizon Club floor provided access to a special dining area for breakfast with great service. The Horizon Club also has a beautiful conference room overlooking the harbor where I held several meetings without incurring an additional charge. The staff was attentive and helpful in arranging transportation and after check-out the employee behind the desk escorted me to my car. The gym and spa are beautiful. A first class act all around.

Stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel for business. It was very convenient for my meetings and just about everywhere else we went in HongKong. The rooms were very spacious and had plenty of amenities. The views are amazing. They were waiting when I arrived and greeted me by name. They walked me to my room where they offered a pot of tea while I was checked in. The fitness facilities were well appointed. They provide bottled water, decent headset and the cardio equipment includes self contained television and ipod ports. In addition to cardio there were circuit machines and free weights. I didn't use the pool, but it was outdoors and very nice. I did have a few things dry-cleaned. The price was reasonable (actually cheaper than at home) and everything was returned in pristine condition. I enjoyed a meal at the Lobster Bar inside the hotel. The service was friendly and prompt and when I didn't finish my soup they were concerned that I was not pleased with it. I had a shrimp and avocado salad which was very good. I also used the concierge to book a private tour due to my limited time and desire to see as much as possible. I was trying to book same day and all guides were reserved. They took my number and said they would see what they could do. Within a short time they phoned and said they were able to find a wonderful guide name May for the exact time that I needed. I definitely look forward to a return visit.

The hotel is conveniently located by the Pacific Place which also has a subway station (Admiralty) and a HSBC branch. Pacific Place is a high end shopping center so it is not as crowded as some other place (at least the few days I was there). The hotel is accessible from a lift inside the mall. Central (the business area) and Tsim Sha Tsui (the shopping area in Kowloon) are both one stop away on the subway. Staff is polite and helpful. The concierge gave me very detailed and frank information on trips and attractions, which made my stay very enjoyable. The breakfast buffet is comprehensive with more than enough selections. The room size is generous - I was expecting something small given it's Hong Kong, but was quite pleased to see a usual US sized room that made me forget that this is Hong Kong. Pool is a little bit small though.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the harbor would have amazing view, otherwise I believe a lot of the rooms face the Con...

Stayed at ISL from 17/10/2012-21/10/2012.
Location- Located above Pacific Place, a high end shopping mall with good selection of luxury boutiques and restaurants. Also next to Admiralty Metro Station making it very convenient to go anywhere in Hong Kong island or Kowloon. Make sure you get the Octopus Card.
Rooms- Large, well maintained bedrooms with classic decor. Very clean and no odor whatsoever.
Bathrooms- Floor to ceiling marble with L'Occitaine toiletries.
Restaurants- Ate Hairy Crab set menu at the Summer Palace which was truly excellent. Had second dinner there and ordered ala carte which also turned out to be excellent. Deserve their one Michelin star. Had daily buffet breakfast at Cafe Too which had a wide variety of food items that should satisfy most guests.
In Hong Kong we also had meals at Bo Innovation, Amber and Nobu. Give Nobu a miss as it's so so. Amber in particular is a standout. Highly recommended considering we have eaten at 3 Michelin star restaurants in Paris.
Service- We are Golden Circle members and found the overall service to be impeccable from the front desk to the restaurant staff. Can't fault them in any way. Every request was promptly attended to.
Overall- Definitely deserved to be on your short list for a hotel in Hong Kong.

There are many things to like about this hotel. The staff works very hard to provide for your every need. (They are so attentive that it sometimes gets intrusive.) Apon check-in you have in your room a pot of hot tea and lovely fresh fruit. The hotel has several nice restaurants to serve just about any food desire. The hotel is connected to Pacific Place Mall which has many high-end stores. Directly across the street from the hotel is Hong Kong Park which is a pleasant place to walk (see the tea ware museum and the aviary).

Despite all that, I would not choose to stay here again. My room had a strong damp/musty oder that prevailed throughout my four day stay. At first I thought is was just my room, but my business colleague had the same oder in her room.

I can get over this, but with so many other great hotels with great service, I would choose not to stay in one with bad oder.

Room Tip: I was on the Horizon Club level in the room numbers of the XX30's. These are not a good view.

Stayed for 3 nights on business. My last Shangri La was in Vancouver which was exceptional. This is larger but just as impressive and I had a magnificent spacious room with a harbour view. All amenities and luxuries provided apart from the docking station didn't support iPod touch which was a pain. Room service is tasty and not overpriced. Used the excellent gym and sat by the pool for a couple of hours although building noise and dust from next door made it less than relaxing. Staff are all immaculate, polite and attentive as you would expect . Not cheap (and certainly more than the Conrad next door which I have also reviewed) but overall I loved it.
