From the moment we checked in we were treated with the highest level of service. The room was beautiful with an amazing view of the city. The amenities were fantastic - no detail was overlooked. The concierge staff went above and beyond to make the ideal arrangements and recommendations

Pros:
1) Location
The hotel has a great location with only a couple of meters from the Hong Kong Central MTR-station and next to major shopping centers in Hong Kong side.

2) Rooms
The hotel rooms are very nice and cleaning and turn-down service is of top class.

Sorry but that's about it for the Pro's!

Cons:
1) The service
The service attitude of the personel was so-and-so except for a couple of people at the concierge who had a nice, straigt-forward and natural touch to helping us. Otherwise the service felt artificial and made us feel not at home (Yes, the service was very formal but lacked the sincerity and warmth we expected and that one certainly can find in many other Hong Kong 5-star hotels, at Mira Hotel Hong Kong for example which is great in many ways, stay there! Kowloon is nicer and more relaxed anyway in our opinion). As someone here at Tripadvisor wrote in his/her review Mandarin Oriental is not a very cosy hotel. Amen to that!

2) Breakfast / Food in general
We had booked a package that included the breakfast either at the Clipper lounge (buffet) of at the Cafe Causette (a la carte). The buffet breakfast can be described in one word only: bad. The food tasted strange or it didn't taste at all. The a la carte breakfast was better so if you have a choice, pick that. On the day we arrived, we had a lunch at the Cafe Causette. The food wasn't that great but was expensive. The price can be expected of course at this hotel but you certainly can expect a tasteful meal as well which it was not. So combine that with the "over" formal and artificial service, you have a package you should avoid. Note, however, that we didn't have lunch/dinner at the other restaurants in the hotel so we can't say anything about the food/service quality there.

To Sum Up:

If you want to spend a lot of money for nice and clean rooms and decent sleep quality, this may be an option for you to stay. You can, however, find these elsewhere with a much better price-quality ratio than in Mandarine Oriental. If you are looking for a sincere and hospitable service, nice feeling and cosyness, but at the same time luxurious stay at Hong Kong, dont' stay at Mandarin Oriental. Sorry to say but they make you feel like you are not welcome and that you should feel privileged to stay in their hotel. As said before, we would definitely recommend Mira (or even Kowloon Shangri-La) over the Mandarin. We have stayed in both.

I was quite satisfied with the service, altough we didn`t ask for much on this occasion.
We enjoyed the quiet room and the quick room service. The only disappointment was the problem with thee lights in our room. The service man could have been more polite.
He fixed the light anyway. I had no problems with this hotel, but you can find fancier place in Hong Kong for the same money.

I have been to HK many times on both business and leisure but never stayed at the Mandarin Oriental until recently. I am happy to say that the hotel exceeded my expectations particularly in the comfortable room furnishings and amenities and the gracious service. While I spent more than I normally do for my accommodations, I felt very pampered and valued.

MOHK is the original and the best hotel of the Mandarin Oriental Group. After staying in many of the Group's properties, we finally found an excuse to make a getaway to HK and stay in the original.

The hotel exudes elegance and has managed to maintain the ambiance and atmosphere of the hotel that first opened in the early 1960's. A very extensive renovation has resulted in a completely modern hotel, but with original elegance of Hong Kong's first luxury hotel remaining.

The lobby is fully staffed by a well trained bell staff that jump at the opportunity to assist guests. After confirming guest identify, the majority of the check in ritual is performed by the front desk staff in the comfort of the guest's room. Bags arrive in the room within minutes of arrival.

Rooms, and the entire hotel, is tastefully appointed with Chinese themes, as is expected at a Mandarin Oriental. Rooms are equipped with flat panel TVs and stereo sets for music.

The bathing room has both a deep hot tub style bath, hand held shower wand, and pulse shower heads. Bath amenities are provided by Hermes.

The bed is firm, but fluffy and very comfortable. Closest space is adequate and a large size room safe is provided for valuables.

All of the hotel's restaurants are suburb, although we did not try Pierre Gagnaire (we did dine at Pierre Gagnaire at the MO Las Vegas on a recent ocassion, which is reviewed separately).

Hard to believe this was once Hong Kong's tallest building, now dwarfed by the skyscrapers surrounding.

We loved this elegant hotel and are so happy we were able to experience the original and best property in the Mandarin Oriental Group.

Our only request to MO is for a loyalty program, so that we can be recognized as repeat customers at MO properties around the world.

We have now been to a many of the MO group properties and our assessment of each properties appeal is as follows:

MOHK - simply the best and most elegant
MOLAS - the newest with the best bar and best privacy on the strip
MOSIN - best buffet breakfast at MELT, best executive club
MOSF - best view from a room
MOTYO - best room, best view from a men's room anywhere (in the lobby)
MONY - best access to a park (Central Park) for running and exercise.

We hope to visit all the MO group hotels someday. We are a fan.

Stayed on their "essence of the spa" package and I have to say this was a truly five star experience.

This has got to be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff service was spot on. They were helpful, polite and courteous. The room was amazing. Great views of both the Harbour (shame about the construction, but that is not the hotels fault!). Lovely bed, amazing bathroom (love the TV in the mirror!) and good quality sound system.

The spa was superb!! Best spa experienced in Asia and well worth it. However swimming pool was a bit of a let down.

Only downside was we had to leave at some point.

Only annoyance, having to pay for internet / wifi. I really don't know how hotels can still get away with this.
