“Great hotel - if only they had free wifi ...”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

This is my first stay at the Mandarin Oriental - have stayed at the more boutique Landmark MO before and loved it. The original MO is a bit like an old dame with excellent cosmetic surgery. Elegant, cosmopolitan and all around wonderful service.

The only thing I don't understand is why this hotel charges for wifi. I can see why less expensive properties need to make ends meet and use surcharges to that end but the MO is at the other end of the spectrum. Very annoying - I hope management changes its mind. We are in 2012 not 1999.

We stayed here on the first leg of our honeymoon for 3 nights. If you truly want to experience the highest possible service, quality and convenient location etc then you must stay here. Personal touches galore and very pleasant people. We had a harbour view room which has to be the best room in a city hotel we have ever stayed in. The room was very romantic and not like a 'business' room you often get in city hotels. The bed was superking big and very comfortable, the Hermes toiletries were a bonus and the view from the bath tub was staggering! If you have booked a Harbour View room we recommend as high a floor as possible to get the best view. The Man Wah Restaurant was probably the best restaurant we ate at whilst In HK. The breakfast was to die for! Who knew dim sum at 8am would go down so well!! It isnt cheap, but you get what you pay for - you are made to feel like a VIP from the moment the doorman greets you from your taxi. No complaints whatsoever, we can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor and harbour view!

I stayed in a Harbour View room which gave great views over the harbour. The rooms are very high tech though not huge. The only disappointment was there was no balcony and no outdoor pool so if you wanted a bit of sunbathing (very hot and sunny last week) you had to go out of the hotel. We ate at several different restaurants in the hotel and they were all faultless both in terms of food and service. On all the many occasions i asked the Concierge for guidance they were very well informed and helpful, and spoke excellent English.

This really is a 5 star hotel, with impeccable service and such warm hospitality, from the moment you arrive and the bell boys rush forward to take your bags to the time you leave and the doorman and bell boys wave you off. I absolutely loved this hotel. Rooms are very well appointed, modern, clean and refreshed perfectly every day. Breakfast buffet in the Clipper restaurant delicious, with choices for everyone, and lots of gorgeous fresh fruit. Concierge very helpful in the basics, like getting around and also good with tougher questions, like "what should I do today?" Spa was a beautiful escape from a buzzing city below. I will definitely stay here again. This is what a 5 star hotel should be.

Always a joy to stay here, my favourite hotel in Hong Kong, every detail attended to. The rooms are fabulous, really comfortable bed, and everything you would expect.

My only criticism is the lighting controls are slightly confusing and not quite bright enough at times.

Cafe Causette has a varied menu for informal eating.

Convenient location for Central.

Room Tip: The superior rooms have a separate shower stall.

The best place to stay in hong kong bar none. Ideal location, excellent service, great rooms (harbour view suites are even better) and good food and drink. One of the few hotels in the world i look forward to staying in. Don't waste your time or money trying to better it.

I travel 60% of the time to all corners of the world. Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong is the only place where I am being pampered the way I am at home coming from a long trip. No place in the world has this attentive, efficient and kind personnel. Just walking into the lobby and catching a glimps of the Captain's Bar with the anticipation of landing there at around 7 PM for drinks makes me forget the long flight. If I do not visit MO in Hong Kong at least twice a year I feel bad. It has become my home away from home.
