“A classic establishment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Visited with my husband on the final leg of our honeymoon.
Clearly, this hotel has a tradition of excellence and professionalism. The hotel is located in a super-posh area (Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon side) - all high end stores with wealthy clientele than make up the guest population of the hotel. The whole area is a snooty in general, and the hotel fits into the picture.
It is a large hotel, so there is less of a personal feel. Because the hotel has seemingly been around for a long time, the building and accommodations may be a little dated, but there have also clearly been efforts to renovate - rooms are fairly modern looking. As a result, however, there was a musty odor to the room when we first checked in; when we switched to a different room, we could still detect that odor. That being said, it seems to go away after several minutes of ventilation. Rooms are a good size for a Hong Kong hotel.
The breakfast buffet is very good. Service is fair; no gripes but nothing that stands out. The area is convenient - train station just 2 blocks away and lots of high end shops nearby if that's what you're looking for. Also, the ferry station and clocktower are around the corner, which is a convenient walk to access the ferry to Hong Kong island or to see the laser show at night.
Overall, decent experience, but will likely look for a different place to stay next time.

Long queues to check in, room not available @ 3pm. Find out unable to honor reservation for adjoining room (made 5 months earlier) After lots of inconsistent excuses took 2 hrs before we were eventually allocated another (wrong) room despite having two young children in tow. No one empowered or accountable to resolve. Overall poor start to holiday and not expected from a 4* hotel - maybe customer service is secondary if they have full occupancy and a prime location but will come back to haunt them one day ! Didn't used to be like this, lots of other hotels provide better customer experience and value for money in HK

I am absolutely smitten by this wonderful hotel. It is almost the perfect hotel for me. Here are the reasons:
1. Excellent service. The brilliant service starts from the time I arrived at the hotel. The concierge was extremely helpful with the many pieces of luggage that I was carrying. The receptionist was fast with the check-in. Special mention must be made for the two non-Chinese staff at the Concierge. Friendly and helpful, they tried their personal best to keep guests satisfied. Housekeeping staff work round the clock to provide
2. Good location. A hotel situation in a good location makes a holiday enjoyable. Located beside a mall, guests can just visit the huge mall. Near the hotel are convenience stores and eateries. HK is a city that never sleeps. If you crave for food at 12 midnight, there is always 7-Eleven that sells microwavable food like curry fishballs or fried rice. If you need to buy a local SIM card, you can always get it at 7-Eleven. The staff are trained to assist you with this. They seem to know how to operate all sorts of handphones.
3. Spacious room. It’s hard to find spacious rooms in HK. For the price, it is definitely worth it. The room can sleep at least2 adults and 2 kids, with more than ample space for the many pieces of luggage. The toilet is huge. There is sufficient space to put the toiletries.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the lift. The walk can get pretty long.

In short: ditto previous reviews regarding location, condition of rooms and noise level (street noise and inter-room noise).

At length: My family of 6 stayed here for 7 nights and have only just departed Hong Kong. Other than hotel availability during the December period, I booked this hotel because of it's location to public transport hubs but I personally feel Central and HK Island in general has more interesting streetscape features.

The following are the pros and cons based on our experience and observations.

Cons:
(1) The location is ill-suited for people who don't really like to shop high-end brand names, because that is what's on the doorstep of the hotel.

(2) Without skywalks bridging buildings across Canton Road, Nathan Road etc in the immediate vincinty (like you find in Central), venturing outside can be a chore due to the amount of smoking pedestrians at the street level. Our family is highly sensitive to breathing in cigarette smoke, so coupled with the persistent smog/fog and humidity that blankets HK, exploring the area was taxing. Wearing a face mask is a good idea.

(3) The hotel itself is good and serves a purpose, but our rooms on the 15th floor had a persistent musty odour we could not get rid off. It could possibly be due to the air conditioning system, but whatever the cause, we worked our way through two cans of Dettol Disinfectant Spray (Glen 20 for the Australians reading this review) and had to get the hotel to open the windows so we can air the rooms. We had to sign the hotel's disclaimer releasing them from all legal responsibilities for risks associated with opening the windows - and it was a BIG disclaimer.

Pros:
(1) The staff (from porters to front desk to house keeping) are super friendly and helpful.

(2) With the hotel attached to Harbour city, meals at the Citysuper foodcourt makes it a cheap eat. McDonalds is just around the corner and the Grand Ocean cinema is right next door if you want to catch a new release movie.

(3) Little things like the staff disabling inter-room phone calls so as to not disturb the occupants once past mid-night. This shows management has put thought into the details.

(4) The room size is very large for HK standards. Very nice to be able to spread yourself out. And although inter-room noise can be heard (eg drainage from bathroom, TV etc) it wasn't much of an annoyance - for us anyway.

(5) The money exchange rate at the hotel proved to be very competitive compared to other outlets at the airport or in the TST area.

(6) Other than the odour aspect, we found the air con unit in our room to be functioning well.

(7) For people with limited mobility, staying in the Kowloon/TST area may be better suited compared to HK Island where you'll need to overcome more challenging paths on the street level.

Room Tip: If you have limited mobility, be sure to ask for rooms with a separate shower as the configurations...

This is a nice hotel close to the Star Ferry so perfect place to stay if you want to explore Hong Kong. A bit worn down but big rooms with nice view to Hong Kong harbour. Nice breakfast and even though the pool is not big its nice to have after a busy day.

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms

Great Location. It was so close to everything. Sub station, shopping area, ferry station going to macau, I love it. There was this resturant Sweet Dynasty. Has good! Always jam pack with people. However, a bit pricey. I paid $183.00 for 4 Pax.
