“Amazing Location and Great Hotel”
Reviewed December 27, 2011

This was a fantastic hotel in an amazing location. It sits just s couple blocks from Victoria Harbor and atop the Pacific Place shopping center which is also home to a major MTR stop. The hotel was gorgeous and the staff was top notch. We had a great view of the harbor from our room. The heated hotel was very impressive. Our family really loved our stay in HOng Kong and the JW Marriott was a huge part of that. I have more details about our stay on our blog: www.worldfamilytravellers.blogspot.com

Good points:
Convenient location above Pacific Place shops and restaurants. One notch below the Island Shangri-la and Conrad both in price and luxury. Stayed here for 6 nights. The a/c is efficient. Pleasant smelling toiletries. Service efficient but still feels a bit like a train station at times.
Bad points:
It's a bit dated but not too bad. Big windows. Upon closing the electronically controlled drapes, the curtains don't cover the windows thoroughly so it gets bright in the morning. Insufficient fabric. A lot of bright lights from clocks and telephones in the room. The bathroom had a foul sewer like smell on the second day. Might be a sewage back up somewhere. The rooms are not that spacious. Beware - a request for a double bedded room isn't a guarantee.

It is prob. due that we came straight from the Shangri-la in Manila that this hotel didn't WOW us as we would have liked. It is pretty; the staff is well-trained and polite, but it just didn't have much character. I will note that the beds were pretty darn comfortable though!

PLUS:
- views! at night it is amazing as you are in the heart of the city
- MTR and mall. You can walk right into Paclfic Place to shop then head downstairs onto the Admiralty stop and jump the red line if you need to.
- Fishbar. They had amazing oysters from FRANCE!

MINUS:
- rooms are small. The entry way is too narrow!
- the plus are in a wooden box and can be awkward if you need to charge batteries or have larger cables.
- housekeeping, electrical or whatever staff knocks a lot. I pretty much put my do not disturb for 12 hours straight.
- weird glass shower door and small space to bathe

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights recently. We chose this hotel because of its proximity to Lippo Center where Taiwanese Consulate is located. We had some paperwork to do and needed to stay close to the consulate office. We stayed in a room with two double beds which was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids. (Not very many hotels in Hong Kong have rooms with double beds.) The heated swimming pool was great. It allowed the kids to swim even in one of the coldest winter days. (It does get cold in Hong Kong)

As for hotel service, it could be improved. On our first night at the hotel as we were getting ready for bed at 9 PM (we had a long day from traveling and other activities), the door bell rang and a hotel maid announced she was there to turn down the beds. Obviously we were not happy to be disturbed. In my opinion, this should have been done by 8:00 and never ever when the guests are resting in the room! On our last day there, the entire family was still asleep at 6:30 AM (very exhausted from our trip to Hong Kong Disney the day before) when the door bell rang again and the hotel staff announced "room service" with a breakfast tray. We were not amused! My husband had to go down to the front desk and sort things out to make sure someone was not playing a joke on us and tried to put their breakfast on our bill. As it turned out, someone in another guest room ordered the room service but wrote down the wrong room number. The manager on duty was very apologetic and offered a beautiful spread of cookies and milk for our children, a basket of baked goodies and coffee for me as well as a late check-out for the family. As our flight home was not until that evening we happily accepted the manager's offer. The manager seemed very sincere and wanted to make sure our stay was good. Because of the late check-out we were able to enjoy our last day in Hong Kong in the comforts of our room (and the pool). The manager turned a not-so-great start of the day into something a lot more pleasant.

Over all we were happy with the hotel and will definitely consider staying here again on our next trip.

We often stay at this hotel for business.
It is in a great location right nearby the MTR.
Its connected to a shopping centre (which is not the cheapest in HK).
Great restaurants and very convenient to meet anyone or to go to visit sights and places in HK.
Close to LKF and other bars and pubs.

Rooms are good and spacious.
definitely recommend this to people!!

this hotel was simply beautiful. the lobby, executive lounge and room all had spectacular views. luxury was everywhere. the most important thing though was the service and attention i received from everyone in the hotel. every staff member took extra care to be nice, professional and caring. my room was very comfortable and luxurous. the hotels location was ideal. the executive lounge was top notch. breakfast and afternoon snacks was simply delicious each day. the staff in the executive lounge was stellar. i have traveled the world and stayed at many resorts and hotels, including other marriotts, but this hotel wouldceasily be included in my top 5 hotels worldwide. highly, highly recommend it.

Room Tip: high floor, harbor view, executive floor

This was my first visit to the JWM and I wasn't disappointed. I visit HK at least monthly and normally stay in the Conrad which is next door but this time couldn't get a room and the JWM came to the rescue. Same great location with good access to the business district. Compared to the Conrad the rooms aren't quite as nice (but still very good with nothing to complain about) but the choice of bar and restaurant facilities are well ahead. A really nice bar with evening entertainment and a number of good dining choices. Breakfast was good with both hot and continental buffets available. Pricewise it was in line with the usual cost of a major city centre hotel, so not cheap, but you get what you pay for. All in all, a good choice and I am now torn between my tried and tested favourite the Conrad, and the JWM. Tough one!
