This is actually my third stay within a period of three months. I must say that they have consistently kept up to the high standards since my first stay in January. Each and every staff member is helpful and polite. The front desk staff and conceirge are always ready to provide assistance.

Rooms are spacious and well-maintained. Design of the rooms is very sleek, modern and chic-looking. All rooms come with an iron and ironing board which come in handy when you are rushing for a meeting and need your shirt to be pressed in the shortest possible time. There is also a decent-size safe in every room to safekeep all your valuables. Also, the rooms are well-stocked with toiletries and coffee/tea bags. Hotel come with a well-equipped gym and a swimming pool which offers guests a spectacular and lovely harbour view.

The hotel shuttle is very handy and efficient; you can get to Sheung Wan MTR station in less than 8 minutes, Central Ferry Pier in about 10 minutes, and Central/Admiralty in about 20 minutes. For thos taking the Airport Express, the shuttle does make a stop at the Hong Kong Airport Express station for your convenience!

There are two areas this hotel can improve on:
(1) changing of bedlinen should be done based on the choice of the guests instead of having a rigid system of changing the bedlinen only on Tues/Thurs/Sat. Most hotels use the card system where guests can leave a card on the bed to indicate that changing of bedlinen is unnecessary.

(2) the toilets at the gym/swimming pool area should come with shower facilities. If guests were to suntan at the pool, they may find it rather uncomfortable to have to wear their clothes on their oily (as in the use of suntanning oil) body and go back to their rooms to wash up.

Overall, three very nice experiences at the hotel so far and I am anticipating more value for money stays at Hotel Jen in time to come. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who's heading to Hong Kong!

My husband and I stayed at the Jen for one night, I wanted to stay at the Wesley Hotel in Admiralty but he was keen to stay at Jen after reading the reviews on tripadviser, we booked at a standard room with double bed through a local travel agent when we checked in all the queen size bed rooms were gone so they gave us two options: have a twin bed room or pay extra and upgrade to mountain view or harbour view room with sky lounge facilities, so we booked a mountain view room the room was small but its HK, breakfast was not bad, in terms of location its a little out of the way but you can make use of the hotel shuttle or take tram or taxi to get around. Make sure you have the chinese address of the hotel as not all taxi drivers know this hotel.

There is macdonalds, kfc, 7-11 and bakery near the hotel. You can take bus 104 (to Kennedy Town) from Kowloon (Mongkok, Yaumatei) and it stop near the hotel, save the hassle of taking MTR to Sheung Wan and then taxi or tram to hotel.

Service was good but for that price there are better options on the island. Overall it was good.

I have used Trip Advisor many times in the past for planning trips throughout Europe, North America and Asia, but had not joined or offered my own comments until now. However I was so impressed by my recent stay at the Hotel Jen Hong Kong with my partner that I was moved to join and write this review.

I am an experienced leisure & business traveler & let me start by saying the Jen offers exceptional value in its club rooms certainly worthy of the 4 star rating.

We stayed in a Jen (Club) Room for 5 nights from 12 March and had a simply brilliant stay. We had a really comfortable Harbour View room on 22nd floor that looked just like the photo on the Jen Website (and yes, the windows were clean; albeit the same can’t always be said for the Hong Kong air itself).

Our deal was inclusive of cooked breakfasts in the Sky Lounge (28th Floor), Happy Hour (Free wine Beer, Canapés / Bar Snacks) for 2 hour each day from 6 - 8 pm, $HK100 towards the minibar each day which was also cumulative, and free High Speed Internet (we brought our own laptop PC which was great for fact-finding, keeping friends jealous through frequent Facebook updates &downloading our photos & videos on the run).

The breakfasts were of a very acceptable typical club standard (cereal, fruit, eggs, hash browns, sausages, bacon etc and cold cuts, juices; I only provide this detail because a previous reviewer complained that this wasn't apparently enough!). The wines / beers / snacks on offer during the nightly happy hours were very acceptable (we drank mostly Heineken Beer and a very good Chilean White wine; not dissimilar to lightly oaked Australian Chardonnay). Hong Kong Beer was on offer, but it is certainly not Heineken (or even Tiger for that matter); but hey, trying the local stuff is all part of the experience of travel!

With an already inclusive breakfast and happy hour, we found we couldn't use up our minibar credits even over 5 days; typically the $100 covered 3-4 drinks and Pringles. Indeed our only extras bill for the entire 5 days went to some laundry and Airport Transfer which the Hotel Jen kindly arranged at our request.

We found the service to be excellent and attentive and the details of the offer were clearly explained to us in English at check-in. At any time if we required assistance or further information (e.g. suggestions for local traditional massage, airport transfers, transit times) the staff were polite and helpful without an exception.

A few general considerations need to be factored in to any travel in Hong Kong 1) Hotel rooms are generally smaller than in many other cities, even in Asia (space is at a premium here; just look outside your window!), however the Jen Rooms were quite spacious by HK standards. One thing to consider in the Jen Room is that you walk directly into the ante-area that doubles as the basin area for the bathroom (the shower and WC are contained in separate cubicles directly adjoining this space). There is a sliding screen that can be used to separate this area from the sleeping area, however we personally we found the design to be very functional for 2 persons. 2) English fluency varies through HK, but most staff at the Jen have good to excellent fluency. The hostesses generally spoke excellent English & demonstrated first-class customer service skills. The porters and waiters generally spoke a little less, but they were obliging and very prepared to help if you take your time to explain yourself. 3) The Jen is approximately a 10-15 minute shuttle ride to the main areas of HK Island (e.g. Central) located in the Western Districts which is renown for representing the ‘real’ (i.e. traditional) Hong Kong and is located a few km from the nearest MTR (rail station). This may be a little far out for some compared to staying right in Central (or across the Harbour in Kowloon), however there are regular buses and trams nearby, plus the hotel runs a free shuttle service approximately every hour until around 7pm to the main transport hubs (Macau Ferry, Star Ferry to Kowloon, MTR (underground train). We used the shuttle quite a bit, but if we couldn't be bothered to wait, or were returning later, then we often used taxis which are cheap (around $HK26-30), honest and plentiful. Indeed I don't think we waited more than 2 minutes for a taxi at any time around HK day or night.

In our experience the Hotel Jen was a real “Hidden Gem”. We would definitely recommend it (particularly the inclusive Jen Floor deals) and would certainly stay there again.

We really had mixed feelings about this hotel. It was clean and the rooms were pleasant enough but there were a few areas that we were not so happy with.

We paid the supplement for a “Jen Room” with harbour view, we really cannot complain about the room itself, although it was not as nice and spacious as the Jen rooms with settees depicted on their internet site; maybe there are 2 standards of Jen Rooms? As for the harbour view, we were on the 21st floor and it had clearly been some time since the window cleaners had last called, it was difficult to see the harbour at all because of the grime on the outside. Every day appeared a very foggy one indeed, regardless of the actual weather.

Guests staying in the Jen rooms have the benefit of breakfast in the Sky Lounge (where the windows had been cleaned) on the 26th floor. Breakfast consisted of a buffet of local fruits, some cheeses, salad and a more “English style” cooked breakfast for those that wanted it. Breakfast should have been a pleasant experience, however it was a little marred by the staff’s “enthusiasm” to take away your plates, cups etc at the earliest opportunity, even standing over you waiting for you to finish (suggest you hold on to you coffee cup throughout!). On return to our room after breakfast at around 9-9.30am the cleaner was always in the corridor waiting to clean our room, which made us feel that our presence was an inconvenience to her.

Jen Room clients were also entitled to some other benefits, allegedly a free cocktail and other things but nothing is written down and like other guests we were totally baffled as to what was and was not included.

The Jen is a little away from the glitzy centre in an environment that many would consider either more real or more gritty depending on your take on life and cities. There is a free hourly shuttle bus to the centre that runs so promptly you could set Big Ben (or the HK equivalent, whatever that is) by it. The last shuttle bus leaves the Hotel at 7:00 pm. At other times the trams are just a short walk away (ask for directions from hotel staff; they won’t volunteer any information otherwise from our experience) and just $2 to the centre.

Probably the biggest downer for us was on the last day, we had a late flight and decided that a drink in the Sky Lounge would be a pleasant way to end our time in Hong Kong. We were refused admission as it was for “guests only” and we had already checked out, which seemed a strange way to treat customers who had hitherto paid good money in the hotel.

To sum up, a good hotel that could be made much better with little expenditure and a much more relaxed level of customer service. Having said that, I should mention that exceptionally, the bell boy on the ground floor was extremely helpful and pleasant.

Tip for others: We found the best way of travelling to/from the airport (when it comes to landing, we do not recommend a window seat on the plane for nervous flyers) was by train. All the major airlines offer check in at Hong Kong station for the return run, saving you the carrying of your luggage from then on.

My girlfriend and I stayed at JEN Hotel for Valentines and we were very happy with our stay. I was concerned that the hotel was not close to the MTR, however the tram link was quite close. The hotel also has its own bus that can drop you off at key points in the city. The room we stayed in was not huge, but it was very clean and had a great view over the harbour. The staff were always polite and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed at the Hotel Jen for the Christmas week- we got a great price as part of a package with the flights at Lastminute.com. Transport-wise- there are free hotel buses into town which were very useful- you can get to the Metro that way, and then to the airport on the Metro, or vice versa. The tramline runs very very close to the hotel, so that was handy. It's not near a Metro station itself, though.
We liked the look of the hotel- quite glam and certainly clean and business-like. For a small extra cost we'd upgraded in order to get a harbour view room- this also included wi-fi in the room, and as it turned out, breakfast buffet in the mornings and from 6-8pm complimentary cocktails/snacks in the bar, although that wasn't advertised- they also gave us coupons to get free juice and water from the bar, and an allowance of several drinks from the minibar daily- water, juice, and beer. Because this was welcome but unexpected, we were nervous about taking advantage of this offer- the English of the staff is good but not very conversational, so they didn't explain it very well. We saw a few other people asking anxiously about it, as well. The breakfast buffet wasn't fabulous, especially later in the morning, when things tended to run out. It was all we needed though- a little something to feed us through the morning. The breakfast staff WERE a bit overzealous about removing plates etc. before you were quite finished. The cocktail offer was great in principle, but in reality there was usually just one harassed person trying to make drinks rather unwillingly- you could tell the drinks were free, as you had to press a bit to get each one, which was a bit embarrassing- you felt as if you were taking advantage. Cocktail snacks a bit rubbish and rather sparse. But hey, free. The cleaners were good, although tended to hang around in the corridors until you left for the day, which meant you felt a bit pressured to leave. Our room was small but nice, with a fab sliding door between the bedroom and the rest of it. Gorgeous carpets in the corridors. On our 3rd night, a large family moved into the 2 rooms beside us and made a terrible noise at night- after the 2nd night, we complained, and they were v. nice about moving us to another room away from the noise. Chocolates every night beside the bed! There were computers available in the bar if you needed to use them, though we took a laptop along. You could check your tab online if you were buying drinks from the bar or using the minibar a lot. The rooftop pool was a big selling point for me when we were booking, but a bit too chilly at nights for me to have even one swim. A little gym upstairs we could have used if we weren't so lazy. Good area- you could just walk into town centre, couple of gorgeous bakeries on the street- fab view from the bar over the town, and you could go up and smoke on the roof by the pool if you liked- they had smoking rooms, but I wouldn't want to smoke in the room- the windows don't open, so it would just become a smokebox. Overall, a really nice hotel I would recommend to anyone.

The Hotel Jen is at the western end of Hong Kong island but with a 2 HK$ (20p) tram service in the next road and cheap taxis always at the ready, the fact you are not in the centre of everything is no real problem. We booked a Jen room which means you get something a little larger than the typical minimalist HK hotel size and a little extra for a bay view is well worth it. Breakfast was included and we also had use of the top (28th floor) sky lounge which has fantastic views and where we could have breakfast if we wanted. Our package included some free add-ons (cocktails in the evening and a mini bar plus laundry allowance) which made the extra we paid excellent value for money. And, there was no charge for using their internet connection with their PCs. What a delight!

The room had a nice feel to it with some good design touches and all arranged conveniently. No bath but a great shower. The bed was very comfortable and the oak sliding partition gave extra privacy within the compact design.

Breakfast was good with the usual western options plus Chinese alternatives if you wished. One advantage of eating in the main restaurant on Floor 2 rather than in the sky lounge was that you had a chef who would cook eggs to your liking.

We gather than this was once a Novotel but the revamp with the new owners has definitely lifted the quality and style. And what you see on their website is what it actually looks like. Be aware though that the rooftop pool, which looks great, is closed in January and February so we didn't have the benefit of that facility. The gym is small but functional.
The staff were friendly without being intrusive
