“It's a mall experience”
Review of Hip Sushi - CLOSED

Hip Sushi
Cuisines: Sushi
Description: Busy restaurant on the ground floor of the large New Town Plaza shopping mall in Shatin, Hong Kong. Two fresh delicious salmon sushi for HKD$9 is unheard of. And large portion sizes unagi sushi at 2 for HKD$16. Constantly busy. Efficient staff.

Located in the lower floor of the New Town Plaza shopping center in Sha Tin, it is expensive for what you get. It is higher end food court sushi.

There was nothing that was bad but absolutely nothing great about it either.

For example, the negitoro portion was so small that the taste of the rice overwhelmed the taste of the toro. The squid, shrimp and white flesh fish should have some acid (lemon juice) on it to enhance the taste of the fish. It was not available.

There are too many other options in the mall for us to go back to this restaurant.

We eat at Hip Sushi for lunch and dinner from time to time occasionally when visiting the New Town Plaza shopping mall in Sha Tin and when in the mood for sushi. This is a classic Japanese style sushi restaurant with a long conveyor belt, plenty of chairs which you can pull up to the bar and fair amount of options for you to try.

Had lunch here recently and found the sushi options to be less varied than in the past and the fish slices even smaller than we had remembered from our last visit. Seems they are selling more and more rice and less meat now. Overall, was disappointed and not sure if we should return or not.

Having become more regular visitors few Genki Sushi franchise over the past year, a larger chain where we have regularly found consistent, good quality sushi and sashimi, we would more comfortably recommend this establishment over Hip Sushi for those seeking sushi, sashimi and similar Japanese dining.
