I stayed in the new Holiday Inn Express in the Tseung Kwan O area of Hong Kong last week. It is a new property and very new and clean. It is connected to the "Popcorn" mall on the MTR. Our check-in was made very pleasant by "Blair" a very competent front desk attendant. She even delivered new slippers and toiletry kits to our rooms after checking in. The "Crowne Plaza" Hotel (same owner) is also in the same mall.
My room was very clean and very comfortable. I was surprised that there are no shampoo, conditioner type amenities in this hotel. I guess I am just so used to not having to travel with those things that this caught me by surprise.
The only complaint was that the shower seemed to leak under the shower door in my room, but I mentioned that to "Grace" at the front desk and I am sure it's already repaired.
I recommend this hotel.
This hotel is several kilometers from the "Central" part of HK, but easily accessible by MTR.

Room Tip: I had an ocean facing room on the 25th floor. Very quiet and nice view.

If these people can arrange a buffet breakfast instead of 4 fixed menus, I would rate it 6/5. The rooms are of very decent size and so is the view... Weather city view or sea view. I would love to go there again

The hotel opened in October 2012. I booked a room one month after, on 27 November 2012. Surprisingly, the hotel had quite a number of guests given that it was so new, and its location is far away from any of the traditional tourist areas. The hotel sits right on top of the upscale Popcorn Mall, and the Tseung Kwan O MTR station. It is about 15 to 20 minutes away by MTR from shopping and sightseeing spots of Central, Wanchai and Causeway Bay. If you want to splurge, the Holiday Inn Express has a sister hotel next door from the same hotel group. The more luxurious Crowne Plaza Kowloon East.

Check in was quick and efficient. The front desk got the reservation right, and the room was ready when I arrived. All I needed to do was sign on a guest card with all my details already printed on there. They did not even bother to swipe my credit card for any incidental expenses.

The lifts at that time, were all operational but inefficient. One would expect that all lift cars to always take a loop via the G/F where guests queue up, to get to their rooms. Strangely, if say all lift cars were coming down at the same time from different levels, loaded with guests all going to say the Inagiku restaurant on 2/F for the complimentary breakfast, only one empty lift would make it down to G/F. The other two empty two will drop off the people at 2/F and go back up to serve the guests who want to come down.

The non smoking room with a double bed had a generous amount of floor area for a Holiday Inn Express. Everything was new, and everything was working as expected. As in other Holiday Inn properties, there are choices of soft pillows or firm pillows. You do not have to choose one over the other, since you can have both types. The toilet and shower is a spacious room divided by a ceiling to floor glass panel and glass door. In my room, the water from the shower area managed to seep out unto the floor near the sink and the toilet. The desk is wide, and has a LED reading lamp, an power adapter to convert your foreign plug to one that can fit into the standard three prong UK plug, as well as an RJ45 cable for your laptop.

The view of the surrounding residential community composed of high rise residential flats from my 25th floor room was ok, but not really worthy of any further comment.

There are two malls below the hotel. So if a traveller wanted to eat out, or get supplies or go get some shopping out of the way, then one only had to walk.

It was super quiet, and the temperature setting of the aircon was properly calibrated, allowing me a really good nights sleep.

The in house outlet, Inagiku, was where they served a set breakfast. There was a choice between asian or western food, and what juice you wanted. It was not filling but it was tasty and enough to get you started for the day. Bear in mind that most hotels in Hong Kong do not include a free breakfast. It is usually an added cost. So this was a nice touch. The restaurant staff are not great with English. Since most of the guests seemed to be mainland Chinese, the servers spoke excellent Putonghua and Cantonese. I asked for another glass of juice and the server said: "you pay." It was not rude or derogatory, it was just the limit of her English vocabulary.

Checking out was straight forward and quick.

To get to the hotel from the airport, just take the Airport Express train to Hong Kong. Connect the dots, and connect to the blue Island Line at Central Station, and then transfer at either the North Point or Quarry Bay station to the purple Tseung Kwan O Line. Get off at Tseung Kwan O, and walk a really short distance out of the mall and into the hotel.

Use the MTR to get around HK to all the tourist spots on HK Island and Kowloon. It is a straightforward Do-It-Yourself affair.

Room Tip: There are smoking rooms and non-smoking rooms. Ask for the one that suits you.

Everything was great during my stay at this hotel. I stayed on the 27th floor.
The breakfast is just what we need to start the day. Rooms were very clean, comfortable and very well decorated. Also, downstairs the hotel there is a big shopping mall and subway station (the subway line isn't full as others in HK, that's good), really good location. Next time I go to Hong Kong I will stay at this hotel for sure.

Room Tip: Try to ask for upper floors.

A recently opened hotel located 10 stations from Central. Adjoins Popcorn and Park Central malls, and Tseung Kwan O MTR station. Hotel is well designed and detailed. Checkin checkout was without drama. To appreciate the size of the room which is like that in most cities, you need to know what is the norm in HK for this price range. Wifi good. Breakfast adequate. To avoid tour groups understand when they are in and out of the hotel, and ask for a floor away from them. The south side has some water view.

Room Tip: Ask for a floor away from package tours. If you need single beds, you need to ask AT the time of boo...
