Great host.. awesome time in Hong-Kong.. going thru all the night market.. food stand ect.. very knowledgeable.. great time in Macau also..
We joined the NY 2018 boat trip provided by This is Asia. We boarded at the Causeway Bay HK at around 9.30 pm and cruised on the waters awaiting New Year. Food (buffet) on board was good and the host provided attributes to celebrate NY. Jackie was very hospitable and did his best to ensure all guests are comfortable. We got a front view for the HK NY fireworks which lasted for about 10 minutes. It was grand.
If you are considering this trip nx year, bring a thick jacket as the air can be chilly. Don't forget to fully charge your camera.
I don't think Ive ever written a bad review but I felt the need to warn others. This trip is NOT worth the $500/pp we paid. The boarding process was chaotic and unprofessional. Many passengers had no idea where to queue or where to board the boat. There was no ramp or gangplank to board - just jump over the gap. There was insufficient seating and some passengers were perched on eskys for most of the trip including while they were eating. The wine was particularly nasty and pretty much undrinkable except for one initial bottle of sav blanc. No passengers were permitted to drink the sparkling wine until the fireworks started. The food was very basic and not as described in the advertising. (We saw no prawns or chicken at all.) The fireworks on Victoria Harbour were fantastic but I would never take this tour again.
Thank you for your feedback. First of all I would like to apologise on the boarding process. It was unprecedented that there were over 5-6 different boat companies trying to board their guests at the single one pier and many had more than one vessel. I totally understand how we all feel about that evening. The vessel that you were on we already managed for you to board much sooner than other boats (including my other operated one) Further to that, the police was present this year at this particular pier and erected barriers on the pier which made the usual boarding area inaccessible, we will look into this on the coming year to eliminate this chaos and again I apologise for what has occurred.
The boat that you were on we have not heard of a shortage of food and apparently most were actually vegetarian and also the supply was more than expected as your vessel had fewer people than our other boat and a lot of food was wasted. Could it be you spent most of your time on the upper deck? I apologise if the food was not great, we did not have a kitchen on this vessel and was limited on the reheating process. This we will review and will have this event totally remake for our next event. The white wine we prepared had different varieties for different taste of our guests, our other boat did not have any problems with the white wine and your boat had finished all the red wine. Again, we will look into the varieties and organisation of this event. This is our 4th year arranging this event and so far nothing had been wrong until some small incidents occurred this year. As the number of passengers continue to grow for this fireworks event, we will be revamping to turn this into a much better cruise for this particular celebration. Much appreciate your feedback, it will strive us to do better. Happy New Year and wish to see you in Hong Kong again.
Our 2nd time to spend 2 days with Jacky. This time we had our 20 year grandson with us and we designed the general tour of Hong Kong to show him the highlights. Just as before, Jacky shows you the unusual as well as the how real people live and shop. We started with a cab ride to the Peak. We took the tram down and walked neighborhoods before going to the Mandarin Oriental. He can show you the public areas without you feeling out of place. Believe or not, we made to Aberdeen, had a short san pan ride, rode two subways and made to upper Kowloon before having a late lunch in a very local working class restaurant. We visited two street markets before ending our day at the Star Ferry.
We had never been to Macau, so we decided to spend our 2nd day visiting Macau with Jacky. He has a great knowledge of the history and culture. The pace of walking , visiting the historic sites, and then going to the casinos was perfect! It is long day (and 20,000 steps) with the ferry ride but well worth it.
Jacky is a gem. Knowledgeable, attentive, and flexible.
