“Instant star power”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

Chom Chom began life as a private restaurant in a cramped space and morphed into a bistro in an equally cramped, but high concept atmospheric space. This is Hong Kong -- restaurants that operate in 1,000 sf elsewhere are lucky if they get 200 sf here. The food, the atmosphere, and the corner location bring out the crowds on a regular basis and many months after its opening it seems to be as tough to find a table as ever. The food is a dream -- Peter Franklin's dream, specifically -- of Vietnamese street food by way of cordon bleu and high street sensibilities. Peter is a former investment banker with a gilded background in his adoptive family. A jot in the financial markets sent him hunting for his roots in Vietnam, and what he brought back is magic. Strongly recommended. So what if you have to wait? Let's hope that success will lead to more locations and fewer lines, but meanwhile share the journey.

“Modern Vietnamese food in a buzzy atmosphere”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

Another new restaurant where you can't book! so the crowds waiting outside make it seem very popular...I would advise getting there early or there will be a wait. The tables are packed in very tightly and there is very little room to move, so not the place for a romantic dinner. The high ceilings make a huge difference, otherwise it would feel super cramped.
I've eaten there a couple of times now and enjoyed a variety of different dishes. The menu isn't huge, and the portions sizes are also not huge, so I wouldn't recommend it for a boys' night out! However, the food is excellently cooked and presented, and they have daily specials. I have tried the fresh paper pho rolls which were delicious, shaking beef (a little on the rare side, so ask if you want it well done) and the salt and pepper squid which was a nice flavour but tiny thin slivers of squid, so it was quite oily in the end. The pea shoot leaves (a daily special) were very fresh and had a great flavour but expensive at $70 for a tiny bowl.
All in all, a good experience and I would go back, but not if I was starving or in a big group.

“Buzzing, vibrant, tasty food!”
Reviewed February 12, 2014 via mobile

Visited with my partner on a Tuesday evening and loved it.

Sat at the bar, looking in to the open kitchen, great spot. There was a real vibrancy to the place and good service.

Enjoyed "far east smash" cocktails.

Great to keep ordering dishes as and when you want and see them cooked fresh. Small menu but lots of variety.

I really don't get some of the negative reviews. This is a great place, simple drink and food selection with good flavours, not pretentious and a good vibe. Will definitely go back.

“Excellent Night”

We had a great meal sitting up next to the bar and kitchen, the bar lady was so friendly and helpful with my husbands beer selection. We had the Shrimp pork roll and the shaking beef, yum, would recommend going there.
