Description: Chôm Chôm is a place on Soho’s Peel Street to gather over beer and the delicious tastes of Vietnamese street food. A casual neighbourhood hangout inspired by Vietnam’s Bai Hoi culture of sipping draft beer on busy street corners, Chôm Chôm brings a new vibrant Vietnamese experience to Soho.

Another new restaurant where you can't book! so the crowds waiting outside make it seem very popular...I would advise getting there early or there will be a wait. The tables are packed in very tightly and there is very little room to move, so not the place for a romantic dinner. The high ceilings make a huge difference, otherwise it would feel super cramped.
I've eaten there a couple of times now and enjoyed a variety of different dishes. The menu isn't huge, and the portions sizes are also not huge, so I wouldn't recommend it for a boys' night out! However, the food is excellently cooked and presented, and they have daily specials. I have tried the fresh paper pho rolls which were delicious, shaking beef (a little on the rare side, so ask if you want it well done) and the salt and pepper squid which was a nice flavour but tiny thin slivers of squid, so it was quite oily in the end. The pea shoot leaves (a daily special) were very fresh and had a great flavour but expensive at $70 for a tiny bowl.
All in all, a good experience and I would go back, but not if I was starving or in a big group.

Visited with my partner on a Tuesday evening and loved it.

Sat at the bar, looking in to the open kitchen, great spot. There was a real vibrancy to the place and good service.

Enjoyed "far east smash" cocktails.

Great to keep ordering dishes as and when you want and see them cooked fresh. Small menu but lots of variety.

I really don't get some of the negative reviews. This is a great place, simple drink and food selection with good flavours, not pretentious and a good vibe. Will definitely go back.

We had a great meal sitting up next to the bar and kitchen, the bar lady was so friendly and helpful with my husbands beer selection. We had the Shrimp pork roll and the shaking beef, yum, would recommend going there.

My girlfriend and I had been really looking forward to some Vietnamese and having been to Nha Trang frequently we decided to try somewhere new. We arrived at around 2030 on a Friday night and were informed that the wait would be around 20 mins.

An hour and 40 mins later we decided to cut our losses now bored and so hungry we weren't willing to wait any longer. Even at that point we were told that it might be another 10 minute wait!

We've visited Nha Trang many times on a Friday night where they also have a no reservation policy but we've never waited more than 30 minutes. It seems at ChomChom they are unable to make the policy work. At no point did the manager come and apologise to us. He seemed more interested in wiping down tables than speaking to us or any of the other couples who were by now quite fed up. At the end of it all they tried to charge us for 'complimentary' prawn crackers and service! We refused to pay for either.

Summary - Unless you're prepared to go for dinner ridiculously early or wait most of the evening for food give this place a miss and head to Nha Trang on Wellington St for great food and service.

Simply put, this place is just a standard Vietnamese restaurant with limited seating and decent decor. Menu was very small with limited selections; all the dishes are regular Vietnamese food that you can get anywhere else. Nothing special about this place besides an especially long wait for tables. There are places that are worth 1.5 hours of waiting time sure, but not this place. Points can only be given for friendly staffs.

Please email Mia Rappoport in our communications department if you would like to come back in. She can be reached at mia@blacksheeprestaurants.com.hk.
