What an exceptional meal. Staff couldn't be more helpful and the recommendations were spot on. Sommelier was simply superb, offering a wonderful choice and excellent conversation. On top of the wonderful food, was a wonderful view. Can't recommend highly enough.

Based upon earlier reviews we booked a dinner here on our recent trip to HK. There is a nice little bar on the same floor (that seems to double as their executive lounge - Moet was the "free" champagne!!) where you can stop and have a cocktail prior to being seated. The view when seated at the bar out over the harbour is very good.

Let me start by saying that the food is very good. The dishes were of some of the best standard that we have eaten anywhere (Chinese Food). You can definitely see that at some time in the not too distant future this restaurant could achieve a star for its food.

Where it works against itself: Some of the staff are not fully trained and management is stretched a little thin. To explain - the restaurant is trying to be a "almost" fine dining experience. The first dish came out, the wait staff placed it nicely in front of us, explained what the dish was and the best way to enjoy. The next dish was brought out and just dumped on the table and then the next dish and then the next dish and then the next dish all with no explanation and without a break. Understanding that it is at heart a Chinese Restaurant but with the fine dining twist, they started at a high level and then it went downhill in relation to service. Same comment again, with a group of you around a table having 4 dishes arrive at once gives everyone the opportunity to have some and possibly would be ok, for 2 people and having 5 dishes arrive at once meant that most of the food was cool/cold by the time we got to eat it. Management were there to save the issue a little too late unfortunately.

So, in summary, the food is excellent (the eggs were divine, we had 2 serves. the prawns were also excellent and the fish brilliantly cooked) it was just a little too cold to enjoy as much as I am sure we would have should the dishes been slightly staggered. They just need to decide if they want to be a "Chinese Restaurant" or head towards the semi fine dining (as the prices are there) with the opportunity to achieve a Michelin Star.

We would definitely eat here again on a return trip, we would just make sure that the food comes in stages.......

We phoned Above and Beyond Restaurant on a Saturday afternoon hoping for a table by the windows, and a table was waiting for us at 8:20 pm, perhaps because we were staying at the Hotel icon. Tables for 2 up to 4 people are by the windows, and larger tables are against the opposite wall. We felt a little concerned at the beginning when we learned that tap water was not an option. They did have a glass of vidal ice wine, and it was very good. Our favorite dishes at Cantonese restaurants in Hong Kong and Singapore are crispy chicken and kalian with oyster sauce. Crispy chicken was one of their featured dishes, and we have to say that the crispy chicken was rather tasteless ranking it in the bottom quartile of all the crispy chicken dishes we have had. The prawns and cashews were very good, and so was the kalian with oyster sauce. They provided an interesting assortment of chili sauces, as well. We split a sago pudding with chestnut in it for dessert, and it was very good. Service was attentive and polite. My wife had a fruit drink called Double Happiness that we felt provided a novel and refreshing flavor. We could use the hotel’s wi-fi in the restaurant, which was very convenient. The view was similar to the view from our room, darkened by patches of rain that fell during our meal. We were highly impressed that we were able to get such a nice table on short notice when the restaurant was quite full on a Saturday night. We felt the bill was competitive for an award-winning restaurant despite the charge for bottled water, and on balance our experience was between average and very good.

I was attracted by its TripAdvisor reviews, Cantonese cuisine and potential 28th floor views. What a thrill. Our Hotel Cosmo Mongkok (great - see separate review) concierge made the booking earlier same day for 8pm, no special requests.
I agree with other comments regarding seating layout, but we were treated to a great window table just in time for a great view of the 8pm Harbour Light Show. Wish I'd got there earlier to enjoy this funky new hotel & 28th floor bar. Check the hotel's web page.
While we struggled to choose between the degustation and a la carte, sommelier Wallace selected a great Reisling.
We designed our own degustation, the staff were very patient & happy to serve at the slow pace we requested. Food waiter most helpfully provided advice regarding garoupa (coral trout) whole or fillet. Chew your waygu beef cubes whole, don't cut.
Sommelier Wallace is excellent - we trialled several other beaut wines including an Italian red fermented in egg shaped concrete (v stainless steel) vats - fab.
Highly recommended - this is a top tier fine dining restaurant. Congratulations management, chef, sommelier & staff.

As a westerner, my palate for authentic Chinese dining is still developing and I have sometimes struggled with ordering. The menu at Above and Beyond had a broad selection and did not disappoint at all. What a wonderful meal. Although there are several house specialities, we went for one of the set menus and had course after course of delicious fare.

The views were spectacular (we booked in advanced and managed to get a table at the window). This is a wonderful, trendy yet romantic setting.

The service was impeccable! Surreptitious and discrete, but always prompt. We need to make special mention of two gentleman who greatly assisted in our enjoyment of the evening. Assistant manager Bill Yau made several recommendations and ensured that our dining experience was flawless. He even gave us a parting gift of tea and biscuits as we were too full to complete our meal with tea. Sommelier Wallace Lo was extremely knowledgable and paired the perfect wines for the set menu, not always an easy feat with so many courses.

This is a pricey night out, but not unreasonably so. The quality of the food, service and location justify the cost and we would return again when next in Hong Kong.
