I just spent over a month at The Lodge and had never felt so taken advantage of. Don't be fooled by the pretty pictures on their website (they are not real!) or their excellent customer when they are trying to get you to book... once you pay you are at their mercy.

Here is what we experienced:
- The rooms are smaller that a cabin in a cruise. Two people cannot be inside a room unless both are standing
- Beds are too short and with walls on 3 sides so if you are 5'9 or taller you have to sleep in a diagonal
- The shower is so small that if you drop something you have to get out of it to pick it up
- The internet works half of the time
- The rooms smell horrible
- There is a lot of construction noise
- The washing room does not have a drier so you cannot really use them
- If you try to extend your stay, the rate goes up almost 100% (They don't tell you this when you sign the lease of course)

We booked this place last minute and it was the only option available. If you have other options save yourself the bad experience and go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Avoid the B, stay at the C

Many thanks for your recent stay at The Lodge.

Regarding your specific comments on the design of the room, we shall definitely share with management and some issues are actually addressed in our current renovation. On the issue of washing machine without drying facility, we have a full laundry service area on 2/F for common use of all our guests. It is equipped with dryers there. Your unit is equipped with a washer for the convenience of our long staying guests who do find this useful for their daily needs, especially all our units with individual balcony. Yet, our team should proactively advise you of the 2/F laundry facility upon checking-in. Fine-tuning on service approach will definitely be addressed.

For extension rates, our leasing team has mentioned in our earlier communications with the extension rates before our contract signed. & it was also addressed once again upon our 14 days reminder notice prior to contract ended. There must be some sort of mis-communications in between. We shall definitely strengthen this accordingly.

As you might also be aware that we have several hotels and serviced apartments in Hong Kong. Each of our hotels and serviced apartments are in unique design and with choices of different sizes and locations, which there might have some designs & sizes to be suited with your needs though. Should you wish to explore about our other properties, please feel free to contact us anytime.

Once again, we would like to apologize for all the inconvenience caused to you.

The first reaction was that this was smaller than advertised on their website. If you are used to living in Asia and do not mind living in a small space, then you may find the Lodge worthwhile. The pluses: The V owns the whole building so it may be a bit more private than other buildings where there are all kinds of tenants and businesses there. There is a balcony and laundry facilities on site. Location is quite excellent as well. You may want to view before booking this property. I stayed there for 2 months and found it okay but I am used to small spaces. Also, maximum capacity is 2 persons with no space for extra bed.

It is one thing to choose a studio you know to be small, quite another to be misled into one. The studio (D unit) my husband and I rented, advertised to be on The Lodge's website for 450 square feet, in reality is not even 150 sq ft. A month's rent, HKD$15,800 plus electric $517 adds up to $16,327 turns out to be very expensive per sq ft. When I raised this issue with the manager, her response was the advertised space is not the interior size but including the balcony, the outside hallway. She added this is the way it is done in Hong Kong. In other words, don't trust what The Lodge says on its website.
The problem of space plagued our stay. There's no place to sit except on the bed, or on one of the two folding chairs. We had to make way for each other constantly. For a place too small for even one person, two were impossible.
We found out that bath towels are not included, but for sale at $50 a piece. The so called complimentary washcloth is paper thin and sandpaper quality. The kitchen utensils are also of inferior quality and look like they were just rinsed off, and had not been washed in soap.
For the budget-minded, there are small studios around to choose from which cost less than The Lodge. But for a little more one can find a much more reputable place. My husband and I took our losses and moved out and found a terrific place nearby, and we're sure glad we did.

Room Tip: I wish I had read reviews by the previous reviewers earlier.

Yes, the studios are small, but for someone who needs somewhere temporary to stay until they find their feet and find somewhere larger and permanent then this is OK. Its not luxury but its decent enough. I am staying in a Unit C type: there are two types - A and D or B and C. The B and C types are slighty smaller than the A and D types so if you can get an A or D go for it as when space is limited any extra is worth having. So this is what you get in a C type: desk/2 chairs, wifi router (wifi works really well), telephone, LED TV with cable channels, bathroom with toilet, sink and small shower (welcome toiletries but no towels - you can buy a towel for $HK50). Hot water is provided by a small and efficient gas boiler in the shower room. The open plan kitchen area has sink, two plate ceramic hob with extractor fan/light, bin, small refridgerator, electric kettle, one saucepan, one frying pan, chopping board, 1 sharp knife, 2 small bowls, 2 large bowls, 2 mugs, 2 glasses, two knives, forks and spoons and 4 chopsticks. There is no microwave or conventioal oven. So cooking options with the eqipment provided are limited. There are two a/c units (one is more than sufficient), patio doors to a nice balcony - a good feature of the rooms in my view (you can use to dry clothes for one thing if you ahve something to hang them on), an open plan bed area (everything is open plan except the shower room!), confortable double sized bed with linens changed once a week, windows in the bed area and the shower area (and patio door of course). Lots of good built in storage under and around the bed area (good for reducing clutter in such a small space). Niggles - no bedside cabinet for clock, bedside light, glass of water etc. no microwave. There is a 'laundry' well its where they wash the apartment linens but let you use the washers (2) and dryers (2) for a fee of $HK20 for each wash and dry. $HK20 does not dry a batch of clothes - still very damp. Service from front desk is OK, nothing to say particularly positive or negative except at check-in they expect you to sign the inventory before you ahve been up to the apartment to check it yourself. Overall, OK, but the minimum stay of 1 month will be enough for me. If you go with the mindset that its temporary and then use your time to look for somewhere more permanent, then for $HK15K/month its not so bad, you could do a lot worse, you could probably do better but when you are looking or somewhere quickly and remotely 10,000km away and you don't know the destination where you need to stay its not always easy to find the perfect place!

Room Tip: Try and get an A or D.

To find a service apartment in HK with a budget is difficult, especially when you also have to consider connectivity to other parts of the city. The Lodge is conveniently located to the MTR station, as well as the shopping areas. There are many convenience stores, and restaurants around, including the Elements mall.

You need to book for a min of a month to stay at the lodge. The rooms are exceptionally small. The architect was able to fit a small kitchen room, a bathroom with a shower area within all this. Laundry is available separately on a different floor. The bed is comfy and there are lots of storage area available in the room. There is a very small balcony attached to the room, but it was hardly used. There is wired internet connection available, and a television with some good entertainment.

Its best to choose this place if you only looking for a place to crash at night, and a convenient location for travel and shopping.

Conveniently located at 5 minutes walking distance from Austin MTR Station on the West Rail Line and same distance from Jordan MTR Station on the Tsuen Wan Line. At walking distance (15 minutes) also from the popular luxurious shopping mall called "Elements" and the newly open and tallest uilding in Hong Kong, the ICC Tower, which is the same site of the Airport Express Train, Kowloon Station. Right downstairs there is a series of jade shops opened and crowded only at day time, night time is actually a pretty quiet place. A few steps away also from Temple Street Night Market, one of the "must see's" for all tourists in Hong Kong and right around the corner is the popular Jordan Road, one of the busiest and noisiest roads in Hong Kong. And the convenience of its location it is about the only one good thing I can think of when I remember my stay at The Lodge.
Sure if you are a smoker there is one more good thing.... the balcony! And that's really it.
Downsides are numerous and I'll try to list all of them.
Rooms are super-small and everything you do inside from taking a shower to trying cook some simple food is a real challenge. The challenge becomes even harder if there is more than 1 tenant. The room sizes vary from 400 to 450 sqf or this is what they mention on their catalogue, the fact is that 3 steps is the whole walkable area inside the flat ... but that of course if you exclude the balcony!?!?! Hard to believe in one of world's most polluted area some "clever" architect had the brilliant idea to adapt balconies to a building already severely missing the basic indoor space. It is a "serviced" apartment or so they call it, but the cleaning service take place only one time per week, that means no matter how dirty will get the room, you'll have to live with dust and dirt until cleaning day comes. Same issue for the bed sheets which will be changed only once a week, so if u still wet your bed, you either bring a spare sheet or wear diaper! No towels nor bathroom soaps of any kind are given. The fridge size is proportional to the room, therefore basically a minibar style fridge and personally I was that unlucky that in my fridge the frozen compartment was not working (discovered that after melting 3 cups of Haggen Dazs icecream, shoot!). The point is ... if u stay in a hotel the mini-size fridge is ok because you'll probably stay a few days only and you'll likely eat outside during those days. But for a serviced apartment, where people plan to stay months, the mini-size fridge is a real nightmare! TV has a good selection of channels but no DVD player! There are 2 A/C units which are enough to keep cool such a small place and actually even only one would be sufficient. Something gotta give, the room I admit is cleverly designed in order to get a good storage capacity, some built is cabinets and the drawers under the bed serve the purpose quite well. So for those of you who are planing to stay at The Lodge, first of all I hope you'll stay alone (maximum a couple only if u enjoy the very close contact and zero privacy)! I'd sincerely discourage families with kids to book in this place. Second of all, be sure the convenient location is the most important feature you pursue for your accomodation and finally be sure you are not claustrophobic! And even if you match with these requirements please think carefully prior to put yourself into this tiny hole! For those of you on a budget like I was, please note I regretted my choice about every day of my stay. But that's just me.
