Small inconspicuous restaurant located almost on the waterfront in Kennedy Town. Decor is simple and low-keyed and the atmosphere is intimate but casual. Sister restaurant to On Lot 10 renowned for its French cooking. This small bistro serves very high quality French cooking - the rabbit legs, the Wagyu "onglet", the lobster penne were especially good. The chicken à la française was a special not on the menu, and introduced as a whole chicken cooked with carrots and petit pois (tiny and sweet French peas), enough for 3 people. However, this was very French "home-style" good, but not restaurant good. Slightly over-hyped by other reviewers was the brandade de morue (puree salt cod, potato, olive oil, served as a dip with toast). We found it mushy and without substance. The artichoke salad with half of a hard-boiled egg with runny yolk was passable, but would have been better if the artichoke slices were thicker and not cooked way in advance losing all freshness. Also a nice touch for the foie gras could be accompaniment of some fine jam to accent the rich flavour of the foie gras. Our guests enjoyed the well put together Caesar salad and Lyonnais salad. The soupe de poisson and the onion soup were standard. We may be a little picky, and in the context of Hong Kong, the food in Bistronomique is considered very high quality. But as someone else said, if this restaurant was in France, it would just be a nice place with good food in the burbs. Dinner for 8 with wine came to HKD 3440.
