Owner description: Perfectly framed by mountains and surrounded by the beautiful South China Sea, Discovery Bay, a serene resort development on the northeastern coast of Lantau Island, is a peaceful oasis away from hectic Hong Kong. The destination offers a wide selection of dining options and leisure activities. D'Deck, the renowned oceanfront alfresco dining hotspot boasts 20 restaurants with most commanding spectacular views of the sea and Disneyland fireworks. The 400-metre-long beach, hiking and walking trails, waterfront boardwalk, horse-drawn carriage, and the deluxe resort hotel Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong, present a total resort experience for leisure and getaway, yet it is just a step away from downtown Central, the Hong Kong International Airport, nearby attractions such as Hong Kong Disneyland, Ngong Ping 360, Po Lin Monastery, Giant Buddha and Wisdom Path. Take the ferry from Central Pier 3, or shuttle bus from the Airport, Tung Chung and Sunny Bay MTR stations.

“Alert - "Family (and dog) Friendly"”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

Discovery Bay, with D-Deck etc. is mostly very nice. We were there early December, with excellent weather. There is large number of restaurants, cafes, but it all seems much the same - nothing very different, just 'international' (i.e. mostly Westernised) stuff, and fairly expensive. Crowded on Friday evening and Saturday lunch when we were there. A LOT of kids and youngsters (both Asian and Western) who mostly seem to be allowed to shout, scream and run around as they wish. If you don't really appreciate noisy kids, this is not nice. Also not nice, for some, is seeing pet dogs being treated like children - including wheeled around in pet pushchairs and carried in baby slings. Weird!

“Favourite Place”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

This is my favourite place in the world. An amazing location for families as it is safe and has all the facilities and places they need. Very friendly with people coming from all regions of the globe. Has the Plaza which has everything you need form a hairdressers to a toy shop to a massive supermarket and is just a wonderful place to hang out with friends and family. Has very good schools here too. More of a resort, but everything you need is there. Things are quite pricey. Has a lovely (artificial) beach with a children's playground. A variety of living spaces from boats to high rise flats. Only a 20 minute ferry ride to Central. A lot of greenery and only a few minutes away from DisneyLand. Every Sunday DisneyLand has a firework display which you are able to see from you'r balcony's. Modernised and a wonderful place to live.

“A resort only 25 minutes from Central”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

It took about 25 minutes from hustle and bustle central district to this resort like island, with nice beach, restaurants and bars. The atmosphere in DB is totally different from any other parts of Hong Kong - tree shadowed boulevard with no private cars allowed (only golf carts), golf-marina-resident clubs with edgeless swimming pool, and tennis courts, etc. The hiking trails in DB are well maintained with great view toward the central, Kowloon and ocean. The 1st language in DB is English as many expats are living there. The newly opened resort hotel offers panoramic ocean views and fireworks from Disneyland. It seems the best kept secret for relaxing resort style living without leaving Hong Kong.

“Hidden Hangout Full Of Expats”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Discovery Bay is a wonderful location to visit if you are in Hong Kong for a while. It is a community of westerners on the outskirts of teeming Hong Kong & Kowloon. It is a community of airline personnel, finance gurus et al and their families. It is like a united nations from all continents Americas, Australasia, Africa & Europe. There are no vehicles other than golf buggies and those required for transport and community maintenance. Thus said, it is a bit like the ''Truman Show'' and can only be accessed by road through a toll tunnel or by ferry about a 30 minute (30$HK e/w) trip from Central. The lifestyle albeit expensive is idyllic and the facilities (shopping, schools, restaurants, medical etc.) are all first class. Our daughter, married to a pilot, has lived there for 10 years with 2 grandchildren and the lifestyle has been excellent for all. The restaurants and the selection are world class and you can sit on the Waterdeck at a selection of top class restaurants and watch the fireworks at ''Disneyland'' every night across the bay with the fabulous Hong Kong skyline backdropped in the distance. My wife have been visiting Discovery bay annually for years and can highly recommend a visit to Discovery Bay if you are in HK for 10 days or more. While there catch a bus to Tung Chung Shopping Centre. It is the best ''Outlet'' store in Hong Kong with all the famous brands at heavily reduced prices. Not your normal Hong Kong experience but something different to do if your fed up with the crowds.
