Sha Tin is busy, but with locals and Chinese that have come across from Shenzhen. There are great malls and restaurants. You can see a horse race or enjoy a stroll down local streets. We love Sha Tin.

Shatin is situated in New Territories in Hong Kong. The location is very convenient for travelling from Central MTR station. There are about 7 big shopping malls in Shatin. The best shopping mall is the New Town Plaza which connects to the Grand Shopping Mall. This is one of the busiest shopping malls in Hong Kong with all the modern brand shops, restaurants and facilities. I have only been to the shopping malls and I would highly recommend for you to spend a day with shopping! Just outside the shopping mall in the walking distance is the Thousand Buddhas Monastery. Must see place.

This promanade, off the Chinese University of Hong Kong runs along the Tolo Harbour and is supposed be crowded on weekends. However, if you choose to take a stroll, jog or cycle around 6.30 am, minimal number of people and very relaxing and the sunrise over the skyline is very pretty. People tream in around 7 - 7.30 mainly joggers and cyclists but still you can have peace and quiet from the Hong Kong bustle till around 9 am.

Sha Tin is the largest city, shopping hub and recreational area of the New Territories in Hong Kong. It is less famous and less visited than areas of Hong Kong island or Kowloon but does boost a few nice attractions. We spend many weekends in Sha Tin enjoying some of the following:

Recreation and Sport
1) Sha Tin Racecourse (Sunday horse racing)
2) Sha Tin Park (city park)

Temples and Monasteries
1) Man Fat Sze (10,000 buddha monastery)
2) Che Kung Temple

Museums
1) Hong Kong Heritage Museum

Shopping Malls/Centers
1) New Town Plaza

We often recommend a half day visit to Sha Tin if you are interested in visiting some of the attractions in this part of Hong Kong. Here is the recommended trip plan:

1.) Man Fat Sze (visit early). Its a steep climb so you don't want to do this during the heat of the day. 10:00am (1.5-2 hours).

2.) New Town Plaza (lunch, coffee or just a break and rest from the temple visit) 12:00-1:30pm (1-1.5 hours).

3.) Sha Tin Park - Exist New Town Plaza directly into the Sha Tin Park 1.30-2.15pm (45 minutes).

4.) HK Heritage Museum - Cross the road from the park and enter the museum 2.15-3.15pm (1-1.5 hours).

5.) Che Kung Temple - across the river (canal) 3.30-4.00pm (30 minutes).

6.) Return to your hotel for a rest prior to having dinner.
