Compared to many other shopping malls in hk, New town plaza is a wasted day. It csts a lot to get to and it's very boring, old person shops not a good place to go.

We used the MTR to get to NTP from Sheung Wan on the Island that involved a couple of changes to get onto the East Rail Line to Sha Tin. Not hard and fairly straightforward and takes around 30 mins from the island give or take – less from Kowloon. Follow the signs and the crowd from the MRT station - the walk into the Plaza is around 5 mins.

It had been a long time since we were last here and the complex has been transformed from one, unexciting multi - level plaza with miscellaneous shops to this enormous light, open and airy super mall. Divided into Phase 1 and Phase 111 plus HomeSquare, this multi - story shopping expedition will take a several hours if you want to browse, shop and eat.

Phase 1 has 10 levels with mid to high-end shops and no real bargains just your typical ’must have’ item to take home (Snoopy’s World is here for young and ‘old’ kids!). Phase 111 has a more generalised range of shops over fewer floors – Yata Dept. Store and outwardly more for the ladies and kids.

Try and get a floor plan on your phone or get a directory from the one of the information islands - just to acquaint yourself with the layout. We went up to THE MENU@Level 7 and had a scrumptious meal at Hokkaido Rice Pizza but they’re several more restaurants to choose from here and all around the complex.

We ended our time here with a quick visit to HomeSquare just to checkout IKEA.This is a smaller version of the one we have at home but it had some great buys. Had one of their cheap soft serves for dessert and it was just yummy. The walk over here is down/up a steep slope but manageable. New Town Plaza is ranked highly in Hong Kong and we will be back again now that we know it such a fabulous place to shop and eat. It gets super crowded after normal working hours but it has a vibrant atmosphere!

Enjoy your experience!

My home town. To get here from Hong Kong or Kowloon, take the MTR and get off at Shatin, simple as that. Go up the escalators and out of the MTR gates straight into New Town Plaza. The central open area will be directly in front of you, if you go straight over that and up the escalator's you will be at the information desk, next to that are 2 PC with free 10 min Internet anyone can use it, there is also a charging point for all you mobiles. Directly out side is Snoopy World idea for young children with a Free boat ride (if you spend $500 dollars, just show your receipt from the shop), and slide and climbing frame.

New Town Plazas are made up of 4 malls linked together, the main designer mall is as you enter, the older and I think more interesting are on the outer parts, some are out side above the traffic, these have smaller shops which will sell stuff you will not see in the UK, below is a wet market, worth a visit just to see how real Hong Kongers buy their food. In this older areas, the local restaurants are well worth a visit for a cheap lunch/ dinner.

For electrics, go up the escalators 3rd floor main all, it will be cheaper here than on Nathan Road, and normally sold with a Worldwide guarantee, and less likely to be ripped off, as all products will be priced, even so it is still worth haggling, you may not get money off but may get freebies like I did when I bought my camera, extra battery, SD card reader, tripod, bag.

Well worth a visit if you love to shop, as it will have a mix if high end and low end products and is a reflection of Hong Kong.

On 12th Dec 2013, me and my wife decided to spend the afternoon at Sha Tin District. We took a train from Central to the MTR Sha Tin Station which is located at the Town Centre of Sha Tin New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong.

The Town Centre Plaza which is located next to the MTR Sha Tin Station, has 8 Levels of retail space occupied by a few hundred shops selling up-market consumer products like Fashion & Accessories, Trendy Fashion Wears, Sports Wears, Beauty Care Products, Cosmetics, Leather Handbags etc. There are also many restaurants and fast food joints at the Town Centre Plaza for your choice of meals. There is an outdoor playground at Level 3 named Snoopy’s World for the young ones to occupy themselves while their parents do their shopping. The Town Centre Plaza is connected to a few other Shopping Malls in the area, making it one of the largest and busiest Shopping Malls in Hong Kong.

Next to the Town Centre Plaza is the Sha Tin Park which is very popular with the locals. Sha Tin Park blends well along the Shing Mun River to give it a close to nature ambient. The park is well designed to cater for mass usage – there is an Amphitheatre, Artists' Corner, Children Playgrounds, Light Refreshment Kiosks and many flowering plants in the Gardens. The park is a good place to stop over for those who love nature and fresh air.

In a nutshell, Sha Tin Town Centre Plaza is a “Shopper’s Paradise” for those who love shopping as it has a wide range of consumer products under one roof and it is worth a trip to check it out even if you do not have a shopping list.

I stayed at Royal Park Hotel Sha Tin. It is very convenient for me to shop at New Town Plaza just across the road. The shopping mall is very big which offers full range of services from clothing to food, electronic to sporting goods etc. There is a good food court. If you want to look for better food, there are plenty of restaurants on 6th and 7th floors phase three of the shopping mall. Phase one mall and phase three mall are connected via the third floor, so when are moving around, please bear in mind that you have to get to the third floor in order to cross over to the next phase of the large shopping mall. I like the Viet Restaurant called Danang. Recommended. Very good authentic Vietnamese food at reasonable price.
