“Great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2014

I stayed for about a week. The location is perfect with only a two minute walk to des voeux road and a short walk to the Star Ferry, the MTR, Man Ho Temple, the mid-level escalators. The room was wonderful and very clean. The staff was very helpful as well. While there is no lobby to speak of - its really not needed as you just check in at the check in desk on the ground floor and go right to your room. My room was very quiet but that might be because I was on the top floor (which I recommend). The upgrade to the suite is well worth the money. The breakfast buffet was just fine with ample amounts of enough items to satisfy all but the most miserable people on trip advisor. The price was very good and the local area is what Hong Kong is really like with regular people. Good restaurants nearby all over the place. The only downside would be the limited selection on the room service menu, but if you came to Hong Kong to stay in your hotel room - you have other problems. Overall I would highly recommend the Mercer. I will stay again for sure.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floors in a suite

This hotel is a recent find and I chose as it was near an office I was visiting. Doesn't look very impressive from the outside and the lobby is a bit cramped, but the rooms are quite large for HK standards and they are bright and well-furnished with all the techy gadgets. Minibar is complimentary and each room has a small kitchenette which is quite practical for no-mess coffee preparations. Very close to Central in the midst of all the small and large shops in Sheung Wan.

I stayed in a suite in the Mercer last week. The staff were super friendly and couldn't do enough for me. The rooms were clean and spacious and a free mini bar and great coffee machine was the icing on the cake. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a suite!

We honestly can't find a fault at The Mercer - we loved the central location (2 minutes walk from the Sheung Wan MTR Station), the Premier room was spacious and well-equipped with a kitchenette, a small dining table, a nice living-room area, a wonderful and spacious bathroom, and a very comfortable bedroom. We arrived as a family - two parents and a 1-year-old baby and stayed for 10 nights.
Breakfast was nice and varied over the days, and the service was always welcoming and gracious. Compared to other hotels I've stayed at in Hong Kong and given the more than decent price we paid, we'll definitely be returning to The Mercer.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor - the view is great.

It was paricularly cold for HK last weekend so we'd opted to escape our unheated flat in Sai Ying Pun and check into a warmer option in nearby Sheung Wan for Friday Feb 14th. Yes, buying a heater would have been cheaper, but not nearly as much fun. The Mercer is fully air-conditioned but essentially unheated except for portable heaters available from reception. It was still miles warmer than out flat though we were immediately offered extra duvets (which weren't really needed) on arrival. Warmth started from check-in and we received the same service and hospitality at breakfast the next morning. The free 3 pods for the Nespresso machine as well as the free drinks in the minibar (2 types of beer, water, apple juice) in our suite is a nice touch. The bathroom was clean, funkily designed (as was the rest of the room) and had a really good shower and bathtub and a hair-drier that could literally take your head off - often lacking in other hotels. We didn't try the 3* (Michelin) restaurant downstairs (at something like 2500 HKD a head) but then again we don't own a Veyron either. Plenty of choice for food & bev in the Sheung Wan area and Central/Soho is a 5-10 minute walk.

Only improvement I would suggest would be some softer pillows and a hook in the bathroom for the bath robe (if I wanted to be really picky).

rooms had no heating was terrible given it was 5 degrees outside. I had a baby with me and was worried he would get ill. The first night I slept with all my clothes on and an extra duvet. The following nights I slept at a friend's. The suite was tiny, the kitchen had 2 spoons and 2 plates but did provide coffee and tea. When booking I thought my room had a kitchen as I needed to prepare baby food, was told only the suite had that and was even charged extra to upgrade.Pretty disappointed to be charged so much when they can't provide any heating in winter!

The Mercer is a fantastic boutique hotel in a great location close to SoHo and Central. Great staff and service. Spacious and stylish guest rooms that offer great value considering how pricey and cramped many Hong Kong hotel rooms are. Wonderful bed, pillows and duvet. Nespresso machine in the room was nice. Walk-in rainfall shower and a bathtub. Only design flaws were the shower leaking into the bathroom and the bench-like sofa in the living area.
Yes, we were graciously upgraded to a suite, as we arrived mid-day and had to wait a few minutes to check-in. The hot free breakfast had a good selection and very tasty.
I can highly recommend The Mercer. Definitely staying there next time when in Hong Kong.
