Owner description: Stanley is very different to other parts of Hong Kong, or completely different from what you think about Hong Kong. Stanley, located at the southern of Hong Kong island, is much more relaxed with beaches, hills and coves. You will find the western atmosphere in this small Chinese town.

“Nice seaside town. A good contrast to own town HK”

Well worth the visit. Busy market with usual style stuff but slant towards local art work-some better than others. Plaza rather westernised with obligatory Starbucks/MacDonalds but seafront pretty and good for drink and early evening mel with wide choice of food types

“Great outing on any day”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

Take bus No15 from Central MTR station, under the Exchange Square building which is next to Central Station. It costs next to nothing and the ride is spectacular, going through Wan Chai and then crawling up and up with magnificent views to Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, and then off to Repulse Bay and finally Stanley. It is nice to walk around, visit the temple, go to the market. My parents bought a skirt and men's pants for HKD10 each. Very good quality and design for the European market. Then finish off at one of the waterfront restaurants. Recommend to everyone.

“A must visit”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

You have to visit here if in Hong Kong. I think its the 260 bus line from Kowloon. Around HK$100-130 for a taxi fare from Kowloon.

Stopped off at The Boathouse on corner of Stanley Main street. Had Chicken Quesadillas which were very tasty. not a huge portion but very tasty. Lots of Mussels and such like being eaten. Everyone seemes happy. Had a lovely bottle of Pinot Grigio and ended up staying 2-3 hours here at The Boathouse instead of the initial 1hr we intended. Stanley is a must.

An unexpected pleasure just 20-30 minutes outside of HK.

Btw, be patient with taxt drivers. They may bering you all around the island {40-45 mins} to get the extra few dollars fare out of you {HK$140 approx}. If you are going, insist on the Western Tunnel. This is the shortest route from Sheung Wan station at the end of the Blue Line.

“Easily worth the 30 minutes bus ride”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

There are three buses that can take you from Central to Stanley: 6, 6A and 6X.

To find the bus stop, take the MTR to the Hong Kong station (the one on the Disneyland/airport line) and exit the station through Exit B1. At Exit B1, there will be clear signage to the Exchange Square building which houses the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. On the ground floor of that building is the bus terminal.

Another way is by ferry. If you're riding the Star Ferry from Kowloon, ride the route going to Central. Exit the terminal in Central going south and you'll see the Central Pier Terminal on your right (where you can take boats to Hong Kong's outlying islands). Just outside Pier 6 is a bus terminal where you can find buses to Stanley.

The Stanley area has seen lots of development lately and it's definitely worth the 30 minute bus ride from Central to spend a lazy afternoon or evening shopping, eating and walking the oceanfront. The bus ride itself is spectacular. Make sure you sit on the upper floor so you can marvel at some of the most expensive real estate in the world and gorgeous urban/ocean landscapes.

At the main Stanley market, which is really a labyrinth of street vendors, you can buy countless souvenirs, clothing and art. Close to the market is Murray House where there is a pier to sit and admire the scenery. There is now a new mall near Murray House with stores and restaurants where you might want to take a culturally unimaginative stop at McDonalds or Starbucks.

There are lots of expatriates and tourists in the area, probably outnumbering locals. It’s a pleasant, upscale area with people socializing and walking their children and pets. On a hot muggy day, being on the Stanley oceanfront offers a nice reprieve.

“A nice break from Central”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

We got the 260 bus from Central to Stanley. The bus ride is interesting as it winds around the coast. Stanley is a small coastal town with a nice beach and lots of restaurants. It was nice to walk around and there are a number of temples, parks and museums that offer interest. A good day trip from Central.
