Owner description: Stanley is very different to other parts of Hong Kong, or completely different from what you think about Hong Kong. Stanley, located at the southern of Hong Kong island, is much more relaxed with beaches, hills and coves. You will find the western atmosphere in this small Chinese town.

“Nice cheap shopping and beaches”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

What's outstanding about Stanley is that it is a 20 min cab ride from Central. You have calm peaceful beaches just a cab ride away from the skyscraper and vibrant life of HK island.
The market is okay. You can find some cheap clothing and local art that you can find pretty much in any market.
There are a lot of small little restaurants around the market, but I would suggest to stop at the Boathouse, more expansive than the others but very good fish dishes,

“Touristy but fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Love riding Bus 6 from Central to Stanley just for the views and to check out the Stanley Market. It is touristy but fun and a must-do for any visitor to Hong Kong.

“Beautiful Spot!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

The bus trip to Stanley covers many twists and turns, and stunning scenery, on any of the number 6 buses. The walk from the bus down through the small shopping centre and along the promenade is beautiful, especially in good weather. We had lunch at one of the restaurants along the promenade just before the market - burgers and beer...and coconut water - not badly priced at all and good sustenance for the shopping ahead. As for the market, it's large and busy with a huge range of souvenirs (of course!), clothes, knick knacks - you'll find things you want, and a lot more you didn't know you wanted! an afternoon well-spent!

“Time just flies here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2012

If you haven't spent time here, you have missed out the heart- beat of Hongkong. A calming and relaxing promenade to feel the sea-breeze at, two lovely chinese temples to see - Man mo temple and Tin Hau temple, two of my favourite restaurants - Curry Tiffin (Indian) & Chez Patrick Deli and finally the Stanley market to buy interesting Chinese handicrafts, candles, incense and quirky clothes at reasonable prices...all in the same vicinity. A lot gets packed in a day trip..but really worth the time spent. Yes, it is touristy indeed but still enjoyable and lively.

“A Relaxing place for everybody”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

It is only 25 min bus/minibus ride from Central but a world of difference when you get there. It is much more quiet and has more open space. There are still many ministalls selling exports stuff and cheap clothing, worth visiting. On the other end of Stanley there stands a pier and almost the whole area is padestrianised in Stanley. Along the promenade is a row of restaurants mainly western ones but all of good standard. Many westerners settle down there as it is a decent spot to live in, so you will expect a lot of bars there as well. There is a newly renovated shopping mall with many good quality shops and supermarkets for the general public. At the pier, there is a suppossedly haunted building, Murray House. with a meuseum and many good restaurants offering fine dining. You can easily spend a good afternon and evening in Stanley.
