Mui Wo is another place to visit to experience the contrast of the tarmac and buildings of the mainland Hong Kong to a much more relaxed atmosphere. Alongside Lamma this is a place to visit on Lantau Island via a ferry. A lovely relaxed day was enjoyed by all with good food to eat.

Honestly I did not expect too much if this location and only went there to take the ferry back to Central. But then I strolled around a bit and finally sat down at one of those nice cooking places to have some lunch there. This was delicious, not expensive and very authentic.

Don't expect a stylish restaurant. It is more sitting on plastic chairs with the noise of the air condition behind you. But you get the nice view on the sea and the food is very fresh and tasty.

I loved it.

Great getaway just 40' from Central (take the fast ferry). Small village with various restaurants (local and western), bikes to rent, beach very safe for small kids

A must go place if you love peace and quiet and want to enjoy a pint of bear(yeah the pub said bear not beer) near the coast. You can then take a ferry to central from here or go back to see more of Lantau island.

Mui Wo is a beautiful sandy bay on Lantau Island. Within half an hour of central by the hourly ferry service (watch out for the slow ferries!), and about the same by taxi from the airport.
This must be the nicest family resort in the Hong Kong region, with only 3 hotels in the resort, and cars banned to the most part. It's directly across the island from the airport, separated by a line of mountains, so the hotels are classified as 'airport hotels'.
This is a peaceful haven away from the city, and ideal for walkers who want to explore the island by foot, or use the local buses up and down the island.
There are a few seafood restaurants, Indian and even a McDonalds for those who are 'culinarily challenged'.
Guesthouse accomodation can be sometimes booked from a kiosk by the ferry terminal, but don't expect a cheap hotel anywhere on HK, unless you use a youth hostel.
