Taking time to poke around Ladder St is well worth it! The area is beautiful and the stalls have interesting trinkets and junk.

I never miss visiting this place whenever I am in HK. The steps look great in photos! This place is near LAN KWAI FONG.

“Like climbing a step ladder!”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

In the area of Sheung Wan and Central there are small narrow, mostly short streets that link the crossing roads, that are often referred to as ladder streets because of the appearance of looking a bit like a step-ladder, due to the steep incline of the streets. These ladder streets wind in between and link major crossing streets, and many have a street market feel to them, particularly around Hollywood and Upper Lascar Row.

However, there is also a specific street called 'Ladder Street' that links Queen's Road Central, via Hollywood Road to Caine Road. This street is a steep, long a straight walking path, made of granite stone steps. Making this walk does feel like you are ascending an endless ladder. Unlike the market oriented ladder streets in the lower levels of Sheung Wan and Central, Ladder Street offers you little to look at until you approach the end of the climb at Caine Road, making this a more grueling effort in our view. However, for those interested in history and being a bit fit, why not make the climb?

Interesting sights along the way are Hollywood Road, a hot spot for antique an curios shops and the Man Mo temple, which is right next to Ladder Street. The antique market scene on and around Upper Lascar Row, also known as Cat Street, is a fun area to stroll around and once you near the top at Caine Road, you can visit the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Science.
