We are Hong Kong residents, and we stayed for a special birthday weekend in a club 65 room.
Pros: The Above and Beyond lounge feels special- great service, atmosphere food and views. But the supplement you pay for this is quite steep - make sure you allow enough time during your stay to get the full value! The Chinese restaurant is also very good - but again quite expensive. The host at the Above and Beyond restaurant was excellent - helping me to make food choices that would accommodate my gluten free diet. This was a real bonus! The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms well designed. Wireless network is included in the room and is reliable and available around the hotel. .
Cons: The service attitude is a bit hit and miss - some people were great, others seemed to have a bit of a negative 'attitude'. Certainly the service attitude is no way matching the standards in most other decent hotels in the city. We did not have a 'club' check in - despite booking a club room. At reception the welcome was very cool. I was allocated a standard room, and I had to ask to get the room I had booked (a club harbour 65) No-one showed us to our room, or even told us where to find the lifts to get to our room (hidden around a corner). There was no evident reason for this as reception was not especially busy. Once in the room, I struggled to find the kettle (hidden in the fridge cupboard!) and was made to feel an idiot when I called down to ask. No newspaper was offered and it took several calls to get one sent up. The TV in the bathroom didn't work (we didn't complain on this as it wasn't critical), and on our second morning we could not get hot water in the bathroom. I called down to let the guest relations know, and again was made to feel a bit of an idiot ("have you turned it to hot" - "leave it to run for ten minutes" - of course we had done both!). No resolution was found and I had to go work on Monday morning having had a cold shower and without having washed my hair. Not good! The pool is nice, but service there is also so-so. Not enough loungers. Also we arrived at 4.45 on Saturday, only to be told the pool was closing for a function. We had chosen the hotel specifically for the outdoor pool to enjoy a bit of down time with the view -so were very disappointed about this.
Other small points: The lifts are really slow, which would be a pain if you were in hurry for meetings. The hotel advertises a free mini-bar, but actually there is not much in it - just a few soft drinks. I think this is misleading. Surely there should be at least one beer and one mini bottle of wine in a mini-bar? Drinks in the Above and Beyond restaurant are very expensive and I was served an extremely small measure - about two egg cups full. Also do not be too excited about the 'views' which are described on the website. Yes the views from Above and Beyond are excellent, but from the rooms, what you mainly see is roof tops of the nearby buildings.
Overall this would not be my first choice for a leisure weekend in HK. Just too many niggles and too expensive for the value you get. For business, then it's a good enough hotel.
I have mentioned these issues within the hotel questionnaire (which is sent to you afterwards), but despite inviting the hotel to comment and respond (an option provided in the feedback system) I have not had a response. I wonder if this might indicate an overall lack of sincere concern about customer satisfaction?
I do wish the hotel the best - we certainly need this kind of offering in Hong Kong (not stuffy but not too over-modern) but there is still some way to go before they hit the mark.
