“Fabulous Setting”
Reviewed December 17, 2013

The location is great as it is close to the Star Ferry so I would highly recommend taking the Star Ferry from the Hong Kong side and having an afternoon 12:00 pm to 3:00 meal here with the fixed price menu. The décor of the restaurant is nothing short of elegant, the service was impeccable and the food above average.

In my view, this is a place that you certainly take your girl to at least once.

“Beautiful But”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

The setting is like an oasis in a city of busy. Even though the restaurant is just slightly removed from one of the busiest areas of the Kowloon just sitting there is so relaxing. If only the food lived up to that setting. It's easy to understand why the pricing needs to be high but for what is charged the food needs to be much better. It's so lovely I've been back a few times but on each occasion the meals were really just average. The staff seems to believe the setting seems to be all that's needed for a great meal. Not real friendly nor outgoing. So much unfulfilled potential.

“Average food”
Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

Average dim sum. Obviously, the money you paid goes to the environment.

Cannot name any particular dim sum which must order.

Good place for business lunch

“Disappointing choices in a beautiful venue with annoying staff”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

I went with a friend who wanted the all-you-can-eat choices (fewer choices than the main menu). I am a pescatarian who is wheat intolerant, and the buffet left me with almost nothing to eat (2 options on the main buffet menu, and then some of the desserts). Of course, if one person picks the all-you-can-eat, the other diner has to have the same and cannot order a la carte. This meant the meal was extremely expensive for a few glutinous rice rolls and some tofu skin rolls whereas my friend stuffed his face on all manner of things.

The red bean sweet soup (my favourite Chinese dessert) was so-so and lukewarm, with no depth of flavour. I have actually had better red bean sweet soup from 7-Eleven. There were only two types of tea to choose from, just regular green tea or jasmine tea. I had heard Hullett House was great and had expected a larger variety.

The actual food was mostly OK, but not amazing, and I didn't enjoy the lack of choice. The waiters were annoying - literally refilling our teacups every two minutes and constantly shuffling around the restaurant, looking for things to do. The loud clacking of their hard shoes on the wooden floor and their continual intrusions on the table was really unbearably annoying, given the quiet and intimate space we were in.

Luckily, my dining partner is a social retard and noticed none of this. A friend of his had recommended the venue (one to impress out-of-town visitors). As for me, I will not be returning or recommending Hullet House. There are other, far better places to have dim sum.

“Great place, poor service”
Reviewed July 10, 2013 via mobile

This old Harbour police station no longer has the majestic views when it was build mid 19th century but its beautifully restored as a hotel & restaurant with a superb veranda.

It's therefore all the more disappointing that the service is sloppy, slow and non attentive.

It takes forever to get a menu, then a lifetime to get attention for an order and no one looks your way unless you get up and wave. It's annoying because you pay top dollar and you want to splurge. The only thing they do well is ask if you want another bottle when you've finished one. The kitchen was super slow bringing out a simple (but expensive!) cheese platter. Wine almost done when we got it ...

Recommended for the atmosphere of colonial times but beware of that service !
