The Bauhinia Hotel - Tsim Sha Tsui

The first weekend of March 2013 we stayed for 5 nights in this nice hotel, the reception is on the 19th floor and we were warm welcomed en fast checked in, very friendly staff everywhere, although the hotel was under refurbishment (told us before booking) it did not effect our stay, the location is perfect, within 5 minutes you are at Nathan road and in the middle of Tsim Sha Tsui, with many bars, restaurants, shops and entertainment around. Recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for Bay view.

Well we stayed here for 5n/6days. Honestly speaking the hotel staff is superb, but the hotel service is really bad. The hotel has no restaurant so basically u don't get anything other than drinking water. The rooms are so close by that if u speak or watch tv in less volume as well u will disturb others in there room, there were couple of instances when we were called by the reception as others found our voice loud or tv onn late due to which ppl had an issue. Again making it clear staff really good, amenities not good. The best thing of this hotel is that this hotel being in Tsim-tsa-suhi shopping hub of hongkong, there r pubs & restaurant all around the hotel and the area is very lively even though hotel too quite. Although asked for no smoking room in the toilet still there was smell of cigarettes coming.

Room Tip: No restaurant, no fitness centre.

My Hong Kong office is located near a huge number of 5star - very expensive hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui area. Personally, I hate to spend a huge amount for hotel during business stays; particularly when there is so much activity outside of the hotel. Found that the Bauhinia is a good alternative hotel to the pricey full service hotels with excellent value for money in the area. A few notes: hotel is located in a strange courtyard which sits atop a hill; if you're walking, it is just a little strenuous. The building outside is not too appealing and lobby is unimpressive. Rooms are small (not sure if 2 adults will be comfortable in the small space), but clean - furniture is basic, but has good wifi, nice big screen, electronic safe, and small refrigerator in the room. Beds are surprisingly comfortable. Bathroom is also small, but updated and clean.

Room Tip: Don't go here if you're looking for luxury...

I am attracted to this hotel for the new room and right price. Most important that i get a free wifi for this rate. During my stay, I o not find any challenge with the service. The hotel is conveniently located near to shopping mall, local food street, high end restaurant and bar. The only shortfall is that you need to walk up to the sloppy hill top. It might not be so convenient for young family.

We stayed for 5 nights but I don't think we will use this hotel again although prices was fair. Located off a steep road near the Observatory and tucked in a corner, it’s opposite some bars and close to some western style restaurants. Reception is on the 19th floor. Staff were polite and helpful. Our flight arrived early and we left the our luggage with reception before check-in time. Room was quite small with just enough room to open two large suitcases on the floor. We got woken up a few nights by noisy neighbours. A plus was the free WiFi and bottles of water. Tsim Sha Tsui MTR was around 10mins walk and a good central point for travelling each day.

Be sure to print out the map in Chinese text as some of the locals do not read English. We had problems trying to locate the hotel but found it anyways with help from hotel workers located on Nathan and Chatam Roads. From the East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, walk passed 3 blocks towards Mody Road (about 20 mins) passing by pedestrian shops until you reach Observatory Road. Further walk up a steep hill right up to the peak, passed the construction works on your right and you will find the Bauhinia. Wouldn't suggest this hotel to anyone with weak legs or knee problems. An option is to take a taxi right to the hotel. The room size is reasonable for two with free wifi and coffee/tea making facility. We were upgraded to a deluxe room which seemed like a normal standard-size room but had a nice view of the Harbour. There was no breakfast. Only two pubs across the street. There is Starbucks at the Miramar Plaza about 15mins away. You'll find plenty of Korean restaurants about 2 streets away.

This is is nice enough hotel - in a great location, prices are more than fair and the hotel itself is quite modern.

It's confusing to actually find it; little street signage except for the ones up high near the freeway and it's a spin off of the apartment complex - so there are two entrances but the staff communicate quite well and will direct you in the right direction.

There was no check in available until 2pm, which is fine as it's a smaller boutique hotel and I don't expect them to have a lot of housekeeping staff. Luggage was left chained up with plastic chains in the lobby though which isn't exactly secure and a bit of a hazard for guests coming in and out of the lobby.

Rooms are spacious and well appointed, all the mod cons and recently refurbished. There is an executive lounge offering breakfast - I'm not sure if it were promoted in our rate or just something they do as an additional gesture. If it were advertised as being included, I would be very disappointed as it was nothing more than apples, pre packaged (not fresh) pastries and coffee with cream (no milk available).

There is also a laundry room but it's poorly placed. You have to go through the gym to enter it - there is nothing more annoying and distracting than people walking through a gym as you're trying to exercise. It's actually extremely dangerous for people using treadmills, in any gym you will see signage advising people not to startle those on treadmills. Gym is poorly equipped but 24 hours. Has a chest/shoulder press, bicep and triceps pull, 2 treadmills and 2 different types of bikes. I'm 5'11 and the clearance (roof wise) for the treadmill would be 6-6'1 so I couldn't use it as i'd smash my head. No mats, no free weights.. nothing.

Housekeeping staff aren't great. Insufficient towels left most days, toilet paper was never replaced even when it was empty unless we specifically asked.

Check out was very slow but we were not in a rush.
