It is located on Hong Kong Island, very near to Ocean Park less than 5 min drive. We took the express train from airport to the Hong Kong Station, went down to the basement and waited for the hotel's free shuttle bus.

Hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. They are trained in Geology. Food prices in restaurant are very expensive. Suggest to go to Aberdeem to eat or take the free shuttle to the other part of Hong Kong Island.

The room size is very spacious consider Hong Kong's limited land. We had 2 adults and 3 young kids (age 5, 3 and 9 mth). Baby cot is only 3 x 2 ft , very small. We had the room facing the hill. The big window and extra sitting area are very good.

The hotel offers 2 day Ocean Park pass for the price of 1 day. It is a plus feature for family who might take longer time to enjoy the park. They also provided free shuttle to Ocean Park. Trip to take the shuttle was to be there early as the shuttle can be filled up quite fast.

The famous but expensive Jumbo Floating Restaurant is also within walking distance. But it is tricky to get there as you have to use a back street.

There isn't much around the hotel. Only Nam Long Shan food court which is about 10 min walk up hill. It has more food stalls. There is a web-site where someone wrote their recommendation on it. We past by a cafeteria a few min toward Aberdeem. But didn't go in and look, so not sure what is selling inside.

No shopping mall within walking distance. However, Aberdeem is only less than 5 min drive. To get there from the hotel, cross over to the opposite side of the hotel on the main road, then, take a taxi. It costs HKG20. If you take a taxi from the hotel, it will have to make a long u-turn up the road, which can be quite costly. Taxi can only turn left on the main road after exiting the hotel but Aberdeem is on the right side.

It is a good, spacious hotel when you want to spend more time in Ocean Park. We stayed there for 4 nights and took taxis or their free shuttle to other part of the island. It was an overall very pleasant hotel stay consider the cleanliness and space we had.

Room Tip: Room faces the hill is the best.

The hotel itself is good, it is clean and well maintained, aside from some minor damages that were not repaired (i.e. Blinds in the room), but if you are not very "PETTY" like I am, you can hardly notice it....Services?! considering their "natural" level of customer service in the whole country, I guess they are already trying their best but you have to re-calibrate your standard a LOT.....Love the balcony, first time I heard of an upgrade to 1st floor, but when I saw it I immediately got it, really a nice treat for me, the balcony is not just big, it was well maintained and kept clean even the chairs and table and you can literally sit back, relax, feel the breeze and enjoy the view of the hillside. All in all if you are on a tight budget on hotels, this is really good hotel for the price but you have to know your way through the country and make sure to use the MTR from the Airport Express Station and look for the L' Hotel Island South Free Shuttle Service that runs on a very PUNCTUAL schedule, ergo to the DOT. And don't use the TAXI, unless you are not in a rush to get to the hotel to check in and rest. Also, the hotel is so strategically located to Ocean Park and with same Free Shuttle Service you can get there for "fare-" and "hassle-free" as long as you tailor your sched to theirs. All in all, if you are a practical, independent tourist or visitor to Hong Kong and need no pampering from people at all -aside from Hotel facilities-, then L' Hotel Island South should be part of your short list at least.

Our family (2 adults and 2 children) stayed at L'Hotel Island South for 10 days in February 2012. Our family has visited Hong Kong multiple times, so we knew what we were getting into when we booked a room from Southside of the island.

If you are visiting Hong Kong the first time, I would recommend to book a room from the other side (Central-Causeway Bay) island, since the traffic connections from the hotel are rather poor. However, there is an excellent free shuttle service from the hotel, but you are tied to the schedules and route of the shuttle. Taking the taxi from the hotel is not a probelm and it usually costs you 60-80 HKD to get to Times Square or Central, no biggie. In the vicinity of the hotel there are very few restaurants (mainly lunch restaurants for locals), one Starburcks in the next block (closes around 20:00 hrs) and one 7-11 that is not open around the clock. You are pretty much stranded in the hotel. If you are more interested in Stanley (nice beach, nice small market area), Repulse bay or the fish market of Aberdeen, then this hotel offers an excellent location.

When the MTR station opens up in 2016, this will all be very different.

Ocean Park is literally around the corner, so if you want to spend a few days in Ocean Park, this is definitely a hotel to consider. A word of warning though, if you enter through Main gates, you cannot exit any longer from Aberdeen side, so entry and exit gates are now both located in the same area. Once you have walked through the entire Ocean park area and you have two tired kids (or senior citizens) with you, be prepared to walk back to the train or cabel car to get away from the park.

Traffic past the hotel is very heavy, so ask for a room from hill side or from higher floors (15 and above). The scenery is nothing to talk about, no thrills.

Service and restaurants vere adequate, but still limited. The staff were very friendly and everything in our room worked, housekeeping sometimes needed some extra encouragement to clean and make our room, but nothing major. The hotel has one breakfast/lunch/dinner area and one small bar. The lounge is strangely right across the reception desk and several guests took it )a very open access) for a restaurant only to discover that you are soon hushed away from the lounge if you have not proper access.

Rooms were clean, but small as typically in Hong Kong. All the basic services were available. The interior design of the hotel was dark but beautiful with many small details.

So, the price is good, shuttle will get you to the Central for free, Ocean park is around the corner as well as Aberdeen, but for a first time visit in Hong Kong, I recommend to stay closer to the action.

Room Tip: If you prefer a quiet room, ask for the hill side.

Stayed in L’hotel Island South for 2 nights and I really enjoyed the quietness and peace which are hard to get in busy city like Hong Kong.

The hotel is stylish and chic, lobby is nicely renovated and furnished. Checking in is fast and very nice of hotel staff to upgrade my room from City view to Hill View.

If you are familiar with standard Hong Kong hotel room, L’hotel is going to surprised you; room is big, well maintain and clean. I like the polished wooden floor over carpet which often are not clean by the housekeepers and dirty to walk bare foot on. The bed is comfortable and is a ‘real’ king size bed unlike some expensive hotels provide something else. I like the day bed window especially, nice place to enjoy the scenery with a cup of tea.

Basic amenities are provided, tooth brush, shampoo, comb, etc and hair dryer. Mini bar with fridge are provided, 3 green apples are on the table… not sure if is chargeable though.

Food:
There are a restaurant at the building next to the hotel and eatery opposite, just don’t expect too much. Instead, take public bus and head to Aberdeen for real good food, fishball noodles, yumcha, it’s only 4 bus stops away anyway.
Food in the hotel café are not too bad actually, the price is slightly high though. Order a lunch main cause + buffet, cost about HKD170, surprisingly large desserts verities and taste good! The restaurants staffs are very polite and always greet you with smile.

Location:
Not near town, no nearby train station but it’s not inconvenient at all:
1. Shuttle bus from Hong Kong station to hotel every 30mins. The bus goes to Ocean Park, Admiralty, Causeway Bay and Aberdeen too at certain timing, do refer to the shuttle bus schedule provided by the hotel staffs.
2. Public buses heading to town are just outside the hotel, cross the road for buses heading to Aberdeen central (4-5 stops away).

The area where the hotel located used to be busy industry area back in the 70-80’s, most of the factory buildings are vacant by now so no worry of factories noise and dust. In fact, if interested, this is the place to see the old industry Hong Kong.

I’m definitely going back to L’Hotel Island South than paying much higher price to put up in smaller, less decent room in Town central.

Pros:
Quiet and peaceful
Good for solo traveler
Convenient shutter bus to Hong Kong station and town

Cons:
The mini fridge is not cold even adjusted to the lowest temperature, cold drinks are not that cold.
The maintenance team needs to do routine check on the room sensor door lock. The sensor door lock is faulty probably due to lose parts and the maintenance team took 15 min to fix it after I had checked into the room. Hotel staffs are very efficient and apologetic, I had no issue with the lock after the fix.

Suggestion:
Will be nice to provide bath robe in room.

Room Tip: As some reviewers suggested, get the Hill view rooms, definitely refreshing to wake up seeing lots of greenery. Ask for quieter floor if you don’t want to be disturbed by large mainland Chinese/ Korean tour groups in the early morning and middle of your sleep.

the rooms are very big by hong kong hotel standard. the lobby design is quite cool, and they do have free shuttle bus service that takes you to airport express station which is quite nice. it's 30 mins away at least so with traffic jam you need to make sure you have budget in the time so not to miss your flight.

the location is frankly a weird and it's located in between two factory buildings. i guess this hotel is a factory building conversion. if you don't mind about that this is not a bad place to stay.

the room quality is more or less no frills, but i was not expecting anything fancy when i booked this hotel so completely fine by me.
