I can't say enough good things about L'hotel Island South...

-Upon arrival someone always walked up to the taxi to open the door
-Reception staff had no problem with printing out directions to a Dim Sum restaurant we wanted to go to
-Staff assisted in hailing a taxi
-Electricity converter provided in room (next to coffee pot)
-FREE high speed WI-FI
-Personalized welcome message on TV upon room entry
-VERY clean room and bathroom had a phone in it
-In room safe, IPOD docking station and mini fridge available for use (items in mini fridge NOT complimentary, but that was a-ok with me)
-ALL YOU CAN DRINK from 1900-2100 for $98 HKD
-A filipino lounge singer that played songs that I liked
-The buffet was pretty impressive (though I didn't partake)

For the price, it's definitely a steal- I'll be back :)

I would definitely recommend this hotel to stay in Hong Kong. This is not really inside the center of the city and no food shop nearby, but the accommodation is reasonably cheap in terms of quality. We used cab most of the times to go to city as the hotel bus service is on time and we were not interested to wait. The taxi is not very cheap, so, you may consider to pay a bit more to stay in a hotel inside city. If you want to spend more time in Ocean park, then this hotel is perfect. The hotel is very clean, with swimming pool and gym. The furniture, TV, Bed, decoration etc. is very new and modern.
As for me Hong Kong is not really a nice place to visit, but if you wish to visit Hong Kong, you can definitely stay in this hotel. The hotel is perfect for family and couple, but may not be for people who loves to drink, night clubbing, or little more fun stuff.

Room Tip: Choose city view room, than Mountain View, which is cheaper and unblocked view. Ask for high floor c...

This is a brand new hotel that aims for a stylishness and sophistication that it does not yet attain. The chill design works quite well in the lobby, but the rooms and dining area are a bit bland. The main beef with this hotel though is that it is in the middle of nowhere. Walk out, and you are on a nob-descript industrial-looking road without a café or restaurant in sight. Late-night arrivals are told by staff that the only food option around is a bag of chips at the nearby gas station.
The only attraction in the area is Ocean Park, and that leads to the second beef with the hotel: it is full of families with kids, and so can get a bit noisy.
The situation might improve when the Hong Kong subway extension opens in a year or two. But right now you can do a lot better on Hong Kong Island or Kowloon.

My family and I went to HongKong for our annual summer vacation and I enjoyed my stay here very much! The hotel isn't located on Nathan Road or anywhere near the shopping district but they do have great shuttle service which took you to the central terminal (15 minutes away) which was very convenient. From the central terminal, you could go anywhere basically, so I don't see why some reviewers complained about the location. Oh, and if you're traveling with kids, it's great because it's so near Ocean Park.

Aside from that, they have great service and the rooms were always sparkling clean. Room service came everyday and even folded clothes lying around (they didnt just hang it on the back of the chair or something) and they always refilled the "goodie bag" filled with toothbrush, shower gel, shower cap, comb, etc even though they didn't really need to. All the amenities you needed were there, adapter suited for HK outlets, hair dryer, tea pot, coffee, tea, etc.

All in all, we had a great time and our stay was made comfortable by having a comfy, great hotel to come "home" to every night. :)

This hotel is in 'brand new' condition, the lobby looks really good, and the rooms have a really good modern sleek design. I liked the décor and ambience a lot. Great size. For the £58 a night I paid via an online booking agent, the room was great value.

The hotel had a pool and gym, which was a bonus for the price I paid. Few people used the pool, so one can swim relatively undisturbed. Ditto the gym.

Another plus point was the free shuttle to and from Central and Ocean Park.

However, some of the hotel reception staff and restaurant staff acted ridiculously snooty. It's hilarious because they may have delusions about the hotel being Sheratonesque. It is not. It's a good 4-star that's all. The hotel's restaurant is way over-priced. Catch a bus or taxi to Aberdeen town centre to eat at sensible prices. Buy your own breakfast items from the supermarkets or bakeries in Aberdeen town centre and store them in the fridge in your room.

The other negative is the deposit money they take upon check-in, 1500HKD, which is utterly pointless because if you've pre-paid your stay what the heck is there to use in the hotel without paying? No mini-bar, so it's either idiocy on their part or a money-making scheme. Bank enough guests' 1500HKD for a week and you're in the money, bank interest-wise.

The location of the hotel is actually not bad if you want to stay away from the hyper-busy overwhelmingly busy parts of Hong Kong. You can take nature walks and there's quite a bit of green around.

Like someone else said, I too found the child guests annoyingly noisy - awoken at 5:45am with shouting kids in the corridor. The corridor was used as a playground at times, with banged doors to boot. When I arrived, a family with half a dozen kids was eating their take-out meal whilst seated on the floor in the corridor. I told security (sounds mean but the rooms are large enough to sit and eat in).

To be fair about the staff's attitude, the concierge was really nice and helped out by googling bus travel info for me; the staff on the phone and the pool/gym staff also seemed nice. Reception and restaurant staff need niceness training.

Aside from all that, what I really liked, and would return for, was the quality of the room (décor) and the newness of the hotel - provided the price is okay too.

Very good services from the front desk and the restaurant. Although the location is not as good as some others hotels in Hong Kong, we still would like to stay there again because of their services. (not only the front office staff was helpful but also the restaurant staff was friendly.)

We stayed there mainly because it was near to Ocean Park. The hotel is clean and modern. We took the hotel shutter bus to Ocean Park. The journey took just ten minutes! The best part was we enjoyed a 10% discount plus free next day entry to the park when we purchased the tickets from the hotel reception! That was a pleasant surprise and the kids enjoyed another day there.

There was no shops around the hotel. Breakfast was a problem. There was a restaurant in the hotel that served breakfast but not many patronised it. Would suggest you bring your own breakfast.
