“Good location”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Location:
The location is quite good as bus and MTR are easily accessible there. Mong Kok is very lively at night, most of the shops open in the afternoon or evening time. A good place to eat and shop.

Room:
I stayed in a triple room with a double and single bed. To be frank, the double bed seem a little bit too small than the usual. If there were three obese, huge sized person in the room, it will be a very cramp room for them. The toilet was the smallest toilet i ever seen in the world. As for cleanliness, they provide housekeeping so is still not too bad. I guess they just tidy the bed and makes the room look neat. There are television, air condition and heater. Toiletries are provided. Mineral water are in the common area. There is no wifi in my room, have to go to the reception to use wifi. It can be a bit noisy at night so it might not be a good place for light sleeper.

Service:
The staff are friendly. The security guards are very friendly too.The staff sold us discounted tickets to various attraction in HK.

Overall, I may consider to stay in the hostel again. A pleasant experience over there.

This was my first time to Hong Kong so it was a lesson. I will split this review into 3 parts: clarifications, positives, and negatives:

Clarifications:
1. This guest house in a large 16 story building the contains other guest houses, hotel, and businesses. Space is scarce in Hong Kong so this arrangement is common.
2. Finding the place: the entrance is very hard to find. Easiest way to find the entrance is to look for a 7-11 next the Spanish Hourly Hotel. Entrance to guest house is right across the 7-11.
3. Size: the rooms are tiny. But hong kong is crowded. Everything is squeezed in. You will not be given a big room.
4. Bare bones: this is bare bones. Its clean and not a hotel. If you want luxury, spend $90 more for a real hotel.

Positives:
1. Easy access to airport. Simply get on A21 bus at airport, get off at stop #6 and you will be a block way.
2.Polite staff: really class lady was running it.
3. Clean: no dirt and no disgusting bed critters that bite

Negatives:
1. Tiny rooms but this is hong kong.
2. Hard to find: make sure to print out a map or bring a phone GPS.
3. Kind of noisy: the building is one with many other guest houses/flats.

I would stay here again. Hong Kong is expensive and crowded. But this place was cool.

Room Tip: The room on the 16th floor was good.

this was my first time visit hongkong and stay, other time was only for transit. arriving at mongkok area, kinda confused to find this place, thought it had the big signboard (sincere house) then after walking around for 1/2 hour, and just finish lunch, i found the place.. tiny room and tiny bathroom ( cannot squad ) but well.. after all, sleep well.. Ellen was helpful and so the auntie that do the cleaning.. room clean everyday, have wifi.. cannot ask for more, the price also good.. will be back for sure...

Room Tip: all u see at the web will be the same

Booking with your credit card usually means you will pay for your credit card right? When we arrived at Oi Suen, we were surprised that we had to pay in cash before checking in. This meant getting from our pocket money and less cash for the trip. Also when we arrived, no one was at the reception to entertain us, we had to search to an attendant who was cleaning a room. Communication was very hard since she dont understand english. This was the theme for the entire stay. If you want to ask something or request, better to keep it to yourself because the staff wont understand what you're saying. Wifi was free and speed was substantial. The wifi for our room wasn't working properly so we had to go the "reception" area when we want to go online. I really hoped we can do that in our room so we can have our skype/viber calls private. The rooms are small but clean, just like what we expected. But the toilet was another story - toilet flush, toilet seat, sink, heater and, shower head was below decent status. Price for the entire stay was a treat so we cant really complain with the service. Location at its best with a block away from the MTR exit D2. This is very helpful especially when we are very tired from our day trip and when we brought several bags from shopping. Convenience store (7-11) and money changer found just outside so thats great. If the owners can read this i just hope they fix the wifi in the rooms, upgrade toilet accessories and learn to speak few english (since you cater to tourists). Will i return? Definitely. Thanks Oi Suen Guesthouse!

After unsuccessfully being able to find a place to sleep that wasn't hourly (gross) or 200 uk pounds a night we got a tea latte in Starbucks and with the last 5% battery that I had on my mobile we located a hostel advertised at 25 pounds a night on booking.com, called the Oi Suen hostel up near Mong Kok station. When we eventually got there by walking up 8 flights of stairs with our bags, tired and irritable the rooms were 35+ pounds a night with no bargaining. We settled for this. Our room was basic and unclean. I don't mind basic but I do certainly mind unclean. For 35 quid a night you’re basically 4/5* in any other Asian location but not here. In this hostel the shower, loo and sink were all squished in a shower cubicle and the door fell off when we got in. There was no floor space, the bags just slid under the bed so that you could shut your room door. The room was in a crappy run down council flat block type looking place, with sex shops and other hostels above and below you. Nice. This is the outside of our “hotel”….

Room Tip: save up loadssssssssssss extra and get a hotel instead.

Thanks for staying our hostel. First,we do wish you would understand that Hong Kong is a very small place with so many people living here and the space becomes more expensive every day.

Regarding your booking, we did showed you some cheaper and bigger rooms with a window, but finally you chose this. And most of the home in HK and all HK hostels’ bathroom must be combined with shower and toilet unless you pay much more for the star hotel.

The truth is our building has 6 lifts in different entrances so we have no idea why you chose to walk up 8 flights of stairs with your bags. If there's no lift, we doubt people would want to stay here.

More importantly, we have most woman staff, a 24/7 security guard at the entrance and it is 100% untrue regarding your comment about sex shops around the building because it is illegal in this building. Did you walk to the wrong street?

We agree that the space of Hong Kong is tiny but we keep all our rooms clean and safe with friendly staff members all in a great location. We hope you can understand and respect other cities and their culture. Thank you for visiting Hong Kong.

Best Regards,
Ms.Ellen (Rainbow)

The guest house in a very good location. Its very close to Mongkok MTR. You have a very quick access to Central, you find lot of restaurants there and also many hangout streets.Mongkok has lot of markets like ladies market, night market. Vendors set up their shops and sell everything possible on earth.
We felt that more than the guest house the location of the hotel is very important as it has to be approachable to the MTR and also to different parts of the city. The MTR runs upto 12 AM. After that therez a mini bus to Mongkok station which stops very close to this guest house.
Therez a electronic bazaar as well in Mongkok. Its very safe and the streets are always crowded.
The hotel rooms are quite small, and some do not have attached shower also. No amenities, no service too :).. This is the case with most of the hotels in HK :)..This hotel is quite affordable compared to others. We visited during CNY and still this hotel was within our budget. The first appearance of the hotel is very bad, coz small enterance, not
Well, you can buy the tickets for the attractions from the hotel as its quite cheaper than buying there and it avoids standing in the queue.
Ensure that you carry teh proper address iof teh hotel as it helps the taxi driver to take you to this hotel from airport as many are not aware of this hotel. The taxi takes approx 300HKD from airport to this hotel. You have an Airport express which is 90HKD / person to Central. From there you need to take another train to Mongkok.

If you need a cozy hotel room and also intend to stay long in HK then this is not the one!! This is very ideal for the people who just want to explore the city, hang out then just choose this without thinking much.

Room Tip: Choose a room with attached shower.

We booked a double bed n she gave us a super single bed and insist that is for 2 pax aft we confront her. If u want us to squeeze on a bed meant for single then at least charge us single bed rate. If they can be so dishonest on this and argue their way out we wonder how can we trust them on others

Thanks for your review. We feel very sorry if the room arrangement is not perfect enough for you.
However,we are truly honest and here's the honest feedback.

Before you arrive, we did reconfirm with you the double bed room.We don’t have any super single bed.The room we provided to you is double bigger than the single. Many guests reserved double bed for 1 person, that’s why our website showed the difference rates between 1 and 2 persons in double bed. Please kindly understand the bed size of the hostel really can't compare the star hotels.

Also, our bookings are always fully booked, it was so sorry that twin bed room can’t be immediate arranged at the late evening when you arrived. But finally, we did our best to arrange you the twin bed room during your stay without extra charge.

For the happy journey, please confirm with your buddy whether she wants to stay together or separately next time for avoids any misunderstanding. Thanks for your stay at Oisuen Guesthouse. :)
